If someone took your newborn and did some procedure you expressly said you did not want done at that time, I would feel compelled to support that family if they shot all of the people involved and took their baby home to a safe place.

AC360 did a special on this not too long ago. Basically, the state hires idiots who shoot from the hip and are on unchecked power trips.

The special was very telling and gave an interesting insight into how corrupt and incompetent these people are. One of the couples that had this done to them in the AC360 show sued NY state for a $1million to punish the state.

To me, this is a clear cut case of why the second amendment was created and that's all I have to say about that.

You know that "mean streak" that resides in us all? That energy the majority of us who are disciplined keep hidden until that moment when we need it most at that pivotal point?

This would have been one of those moments. Protection of Family.

And never, never, take "It is the law" or "Those are the rules" at face value as most functional parts of our society are not the experts.. they are just trying to get a job done at the least path of resistance.

We (people of SI) just vetoed (referendum) a law upon which a social worker could question a child without presence of a parents and transcript of that questioning would be kept hidden from the parents based upon sole judgment of this social worker. It was a de facto attempt to pass into law a family Gestapo. They've hidden it together with gay rights and some other shit people get exited about to try to rally people behind it and obfuscate matters.

I believe governments are pushing everywhere for more and more intrusive legislation to have more free hands with dealing with people and what better way to force someone to comply or provoke than to attack his family...

Absolutely sickening...

The problem in these parents' case is that they are all alone, with no one to help them.

However, if 100 people showed up, armed and ready to oppose these hospital morons, things like this wouldn't happen.

This is complete bullshit. On the other hand i get to hear nightly from my wife who is a social worker the bullshit she deals with on a daily basis. Living beside the reservation makes for some interesting situations. Bug infested houses, kids locked in closets while parents are getting fucked up. Kidds who are afraid to speak because of the multiple beatings they have recieved. Going through the court system just to have the children stay with the shit bag parents only to turn around and do the whole rodeo a few months later. With all the political bullshit involved common sense is not allowed at all. As she found out when some one being an asshole reported a mother and after visiting with her found it to be all false and closed the case. Her supervisor said she did not fully investigate(harras) the mother enough and next time might cost her job if she uses common sense again. You could not pay me any amount of money to deal with that bullshit. After 2 years she is looking to move on as she is burning out fast and gets to emotionally involved with kids who are abused.

We have been very picky about what vaccinations our children receive and when they get them. When we were asked at the hospital and refused one we simply cited religious beliefs. This seems to be the trump card with these morons as they know that it will result in a lawsuit. We do vaccinate our kids but we space them out rather than overloading their systems all at one time. My wife has done her research on the vaccinations and even makes them separate one of the 3 in 1 shots as it is proven to be better for the child if given individually.

As for this incident I would have surely ended up in silver bracelets and my lawyer would have a field day. I hope they get vindication and a HUGE settlement.

This is the crowning of socialized medicine. This is the amalgamation of socialized medicine with socialized issues of "child protection". Indeed, IF the situation were life and death, neither the social worker, nor the parents would generally have a call on it. Dire medical necessities generally don't drag on for a time period with social worker interaction. So, if this was necessary for the health of the child- why ask the parents? Hrmmm?

Indeed, the onus is on the medical industry to show why refusal of a "routine" and definitely unneeded routine were foisted upon the family at the behest of an ignorant, untrained, and socialist-minded affirmative action hire (and really, have we ever known, in recent times, a social worker who wasn't a total AA hire? Not really).

Also, from when do you find the demarcation of tradition to be starting with mandatory (and generally unnecessary) Vitamin K shots? No, this blog isn't anti-traditional medicine, it's in all likelihood anti-modern medicine, as modern medicine is more about profit than care. Modern medicine is also habitually unethical and downright immoral.

I would have threaten to sick a lawyer on them if they didn't had my child over to me immediately. If they still refused I would be on the phone to a lawyer and then a local news channel. Also, I would call the police and tell them my family and I are being detained against our will and need help.

You got the left always pushing for bigger government and more involvement, and the right constantly saying that the government should continue to force people to take certain drugs but imprison you if you take certain other drugs all "for the sake of children, please think of the children".

Why are people upset? This is the kind of thing that both sides always seem to support...

Either way you're constructing a straw man. These sorts of cases aren't about the state telling you what you can do for and to yourself, a consenting adult. When children are involved, their interests matter, too.

I have serious reservation about any parent who has any excuse not to vaccinate their children. You can say I'm religiously intolerant, burying my head in the sand, etc., and I'll tell you that's just not the case. But if I were their doctor, and I observed them trying to prevent me from giving a newborn infant a shot of a vitamin, I would have serious professional reservations about their fitness to care for their children.

Caring for your kids ain't optional, it's not a situation where you can just do whatever you want, and the state (and, by that extension, the community, which includes 'the people' generally), have an entirely legitimate interest in making sure that is exactly what is happening.

Don't take my word for it, though. Watch Penn & Teller's episode on vaccination. Denying the massive benefits to the human race that have come from vaccinations is certainly irrational, and the studies that showed a relationship between vaccinations and autism were thoroughly and scientifically discredited.

In short, I echo the above person who was talking about this link, and this cite, being a typical "anti traditional medicine" rant. Denying the benefits of modern medicine is as stupid and irrational as it gets in the year 2012. If these people don't want to get with the program and take care of their kids, they ought to suffer a slap on the ass that gets them back in line, because otherwise all of us, as law-abiding, taxpaying, productive citizens, are going to be paying for the kids to live somewhere else--like a foster home.

If they were adults and don't want to take a tetanus shot, so be it, that's on them and only they suffer. But refusing to vaccinate one's kids is taking something away from an innocent person who cannot decide for himself--the child. And count me in the sheep who are perfectly fine letting the state step in if you won't be a parent, and that includes the basic mix of shots that every child should have.

The story just might be more complex than it sounds, they are suing the hospital for not providing the treatment that they refused in the first place, the baby had to be hospitalized two days later. No doubt they will be suing for millions...one more reason why health care is so expensive

They claim that failure by the center’s staff to treat for jaundice led to the hospitalization of their daughter two days after she was discharged from Hershey.

Agree, it’s not worth getting all worked up just yet.

There are two parts to this story, well actually at least 3... somewhere within that is the truth. I would hold judgment until all the facts are in the light. Because this is medical treatment, don’t look for much to be shared... and if it is, most if not all will be from the victim and not the hospital because they can’t.

Look what jumping to conclusions has done in Florida with an <span style="text-decoration: underline">unbiased</span> media reporting...

True modern medicine can work wonders and usually in ideal circumstances it will help (always and in all cases) however there are cases (such as general vaccination) which can have harmful sideeffects due to being a cocktail (all in one due to $$$ saving) of different bugs which can in some cases overwhelm immune system and actually cause damage...
Here we have had quite a few cases of doctor "oh shit" moments and most of the time those ended up tragic as parents were quiet, submissive and doctors being who they are (cover each others asses) noone got to the jail for their negligence...

I for one will not let some doctor decide what is best for my kid, he has to propose his actions to me, EXPLAIN them and RATIONALIZE them and I/WIFE are the ones having a final say in matters and there is no way in hell i will trust anyone blindly when it comes to my family. What you want is Gestapo who will decide what is best for people as with government everything is pretty much binary. Either you have politicians and executives of state in check or you don't period.
