AT&T: Dividends Don't Lie

Sensor Unlimited
Summary

AT&T recently announced a quarterly dividend of $0.2775 per share on the company’s common shares.
Such a dividend translates to about $2B in total and exceeds its free cash flow of $1B in the most recent quarterly by about 100%.
Combined with the company’s other obligations (debt service, preferred shares, CAPEX, et al), I am concerned about its overall financial health.
After all, dividends do not lie.

Another member posted recently who works for one of the Big 3 carriers. His opinion is Elon's Starlink will put the current carrier's out of business...
But, IDK

And California is 25 out of 50 - sure

Ram does not offer a motor that anyone wants in a 2023 Ram 1500 - all are "eTorque" hybrids (except TRX which is $$$$). This is EPA "BS". No more plain Hemi, 3.6 V6, or the small diesel - must get a hybrid to buy a Ram 1500 now. I loved my 2015 Ram Laramie 4x4 plain Hemi but I passed on the new Rams and got a like new 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4. I got a notice today that local Ram dealer is offering 20% discount on 2023 Ram 1500s.

PLL has been pre-revenue and that is now changing with deliveries taking place. In addition to that, I believe PLL will be a prime target for an acquisition, and given their project locations, I assume a nice premium will be charged. RIO is getting into the lithium business and their core business is solid. Thanks for your chart, I didn't realize they have had such a strong base.

As I said, go long what China is short. Go long what Tesla is short.

We agree on PLL and lithium... I went with BHP for some of the same reasons.
They look similar for the past year.

I haven't seen many Lightning's near me. I like the truck, a lot but agree with consumers that pricing is way too high.

They will be in the big city suburbs - soccer mom drives a Tesla and soccer dad drives the Lightning. Virtue signaling at its finest.

Connect the dots. The "company" is really the US Government.

Is the government the largest employer in the US?

As the nation's largest employer, the federal government must model effective employment policies and practices that advance America's ideal of equal opportunity for all.

Depends on how you define "employ" - with all the giveaway programs I suggest the US government is the "largest employer" otherwise a bunch more citizens and non-citizens have no form of income.

Tesla's on a tear!
Tesla Inc’s directors will return $735 million to the company to settle claims they grossly overpaid themselves in one of the largest shareholder settlements of its kind, according to a Monday filing in a Delaware court.
The settlement resolves a 2020 lawsuit by a retirement fund which holds Tesla stock and challenged stock options that were granted to Tesla directors starting in June 2017.
The settlement does not impact the $56 billion compensation package of Elon Musk, which is being challenged by shareholders in a separate lawsuit that went to trial last year. A ruling is expected soon in the Musk case.

A Blind Man could have seen this coming. More Yankee Dollars to buy Chinese junk.
The DXY:
The slide in the U.S. dollar in the last eight months could mean that mean all of its gains in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic will soon be lost, according to Kit Juckes, amacro strategist at Société Générale who has been a long-time currency analyst.
Juckes said in a note shared with SocGen clients and the media on Tuesday that he expects the greenback could return to its lows from December 2020, the level it fell to during the pandemic given the market is pricing in an end to interest rate rises by the Federal Reserve this year.
"As was the case in January/February before the SVB mini crisis, the market is anticipating the peak in US rates and a further narrowing relative rates. If nothing happens to scupper those expectations (another upside surprise in US growth, or further European growth disappointment) I would expect the Dollar Index to move closer but not all the way to, the lows at the end of 2020," he said.

We are on an S curve for the foreseeable future. These equities aren’t going to zero.
That's true. There is always a few "late comer's" who buy near the top and ride it down until it hurts. Seldom do they lose it all, unless they are on margin.
That's why I've always liked the dirty stuff.. Someone has to continue to empty the trash cans, repair cars, change oil, operate emergency rooms, etc.
Air, water, food, clothing and shelter will become a must have. Flipping a switch and having a light come on will be a luxury.

BYD's formula for success

Why exactly is BYD trouncing Tesla? Several reasons especially stand out.
For one thing, there's an important difference between the EVs sold by the two companies. BYD markets both fully electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Tesla only sells fully electric vehicles. The PHEVs offer greater driving ranges than fully electric EVs do.
Importantly, BYD beats Tesla on price. This makes its EVs more popular in China. Meanwhile, Tesla has been forced to cut the prices for its cars sold in this huge country.
These factors mean BYD is handily outselling Tesla. In 2022, BYD reported sales of 1.9 million electric vehicles. Tesla sold a much lower 1.3 million EVs.

BYD's formula for success

As I have shared previously... there is no comparison to be had.
  • Tesla and BYD are leading the global transition to sustainable energy, with Tesla's stock price up by 159% YTD compared to BYD's 31%.
  • In Q2-23, Tesla delivered 466,140 cars worldwide, including 155,000 in China, while BYD sold 700,244 mostly in China, marking their best-ever quarter.
  • Despite BYD's revenue growing at twice the rate of Tesla's in FY22, Tesla's net income is over five times that of BYD's, indicating superior pricing power and cost management.

"One day it seems like the world economy is falling apart, next day it's fine. I don't know what the hell is going on," Musk told analysts on a conference call. "We're in, I would call it, turbulent times."

The coastguard said on its website that the cause of the fire was unknown, but a coastguard spokesperson had earlier told Reuters it began near an electric car. Roughly 25 out 2,857 vehicles on the ship were electric.
