The "culprit" is the dumb ass Americans who keep paying higher prices.
Let's not forget the "Government" (city, county, state, federal, etc) who buy vehicles way above what is needed to get a government employee from Point A to Point B...
Government is spending your tax payer money on bells and whistles.
The Beat Goes On....

MSM against an EV company or against Musk?
I have no insider knowledge but my guess is that "politically" (business wise) this is an opportune time to strike a blow to Elon. The last three "pump and dump" on TSLA stock cost some big investors a lot of $$$, Could just be pay back time and they shorted TSLA in an effort to recoup their losses... Just an opinion.

All Ford did was plug in 10% for inflation. The same thing all of the major corporations of the world are doing.
_________
Ford increased its full-year adjusted earnings forecast to a range of between $11 billion and $12 billion, up from a prior forecast $9 billion and $11 billion. It also upped its expected adjusted free cash flow to a range of $6.5 billion to $7 billion from earlier guidance of $6 billion.

They still have to have sale through… it’s not just plugging 10% into a model…
True, but this is a contract negotation year.
An interesting tid bit:

But the Detroit Three are already at a cost disadvantage, Masters said. The Detroit Three pay, on average, about $64 an hour with wages plus benefits, he said. But competitors of foreign vehicles at U.S. factories, where the union does not represent those workers, pay an average hourly compensation of $55 per hour. Rival electric vehicle maker Tesla, also a nonunion shop, pays $45 to $50 an hour, Masters said.
That's why it is important to listen to what is being said and what is not being said, Masters said.

But it’s not though? I bought more after hours and adding to my retirement tomorrow morning. Huge margins, growth on margins, S-curve industry, industry leader, and FCF >$1B. Easy buy and hold.
Down 11%.... Ouch !

Those are just the save three cents crowd at Costco or BJs.

Electric car owners are the best read people out there because on Friday nights my ride home burning carbon I see them at the Tesla charge station sitting in the cars reading books.

They are there when I stop to get my weeks worth of groceries and they are there when I leave.

According to the Time Use Institute, the average person spends 41 minutes in the grocery store per shopping trip. The Tesla Supercharger is the fastest charging option when you're away from home, allowing you to charge your car up to 200 miles in 15 minutes.

Far from competitive…

The national median household income is $70,784, according to the most recent U.S. Census Bureau Current Population Survey data for 2021. Median household income varies broadly by location, ranging from under $40,000 in some cities, to over $150,000 in others.Apr 27, 2023

When a stripped down EV can be bought for under $20k then the average income household may be able to get one.

Can you explain further?
Cheaper batteries but more cost to replace. Similar to a Makita battery drill..... $389.00 each

___________
Will BYD's Blade batteries take over the world?

BYD's LiFePo groundbreaking blade batteries seem absolutely fantastic.
  • It passed the nail penetration test with flying colors. The batteries are safe AF.
  • Costs $65/kWh to make, resulting unbelievably cheap and fantastic cars like BYD Dolphin which can cost as little as $10k.
  • It promises a 750,0000 mile lifetime for the average car owner (that's 50 years). This is the biggest win by far.
  • They are being mass produced at large scale.
  • It looks like even Tesla may be using them soon.
  • It is a structural pack with pack-level energy density on par with Tesla.
Cons:
  • Repairability? Tesla's 4680 structural pack is 100% unrepairable, so I wonder if it is the same for the Blade pack.
  • Cell energy density could be much better.
  • Not sure about low temperature performance, but that can be fixed with a heating element.
No other battery even comes close, except in energy density. It seems like we won't even need solid state batteries anymore.
Questions:
  • Will it take over the world?
  • The form factor may be independent of the chemistry, so can they tweak the chemistry in the future for far higher cell-level Wh/kg while maintaining/improving the rest of the features? Maybe use different materials? Although it is not necessary, can they beat ICE car range while keeping the car lightweight?

Another company that is set for the long play... If anything will pull America out of this rabbit hole it will be done by "Dirty Work" people and companies. Bidenomics is pushing us deeper down the Rabbit Hole. Contractors will not be able to buy, outright, CAT equipment but it will be rented to get the job done. CAT's are still in production in Russia so that is another factor.
Not seeing any battery powered earth moving equipment.

Caterpillar (CAT), the Dow Jones earthmoving giant, posted second-quarter earnings before Tuesday's open that flattened estimates. CAT stock surged in Tuesday's stock market action, clearing a new buy point. Most aspects of Caterpillar's business are thriving amid a $1-trillion federal windfall supporting manufacturing, mining and infrastructure projects.

I don't see your point. Who wants a vehicle with hundreds of thousands of miles? A 750K battery pack seems more than sufficient.

That is a prototype so some companies can rake in the government money and say they are an environmental, social and governance operation (ESG)....

To compare "Apples to Apples" put the little 793 with the 797F for a 30 day shift. The 797F will run 24 hours a day and is set up to change fluids while it is parked and running while the operator takes a leak. In the construction and mining industry there is a saying... "If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch"..... That 797F is "The Big Dog" at 4,000 hp and hauling 400 tons.
