I currently have a hs precision stock on my rem 700. I would like to upgrade to a manners or mcmillian. There are so many different options I'm not sure what would benefit me. I don't know if I need a butt hook. I don't know which forend on would be better. This rifle will be for real world tactical shooting or atleast training for real world and before I spend $800.00 I need to understand the difference. The stocks I have been looking at mainly are the A 5, A 4, A 3, A 3-5, T 5A, T 4A and T 2A

Re: Stock Upgrade

I made the same decision but knew I wanted a McM A4. First one I got was non adjustable and I quickly realized I wanted the fully adjustable version. So I called JW Precision and got a USMC spec A4. Have not looked back since. I love the butt hook, adjustability, and square forearm of the A4. On the non adjustable stock I had to add some height with padding and duct tape to get my sight height correct. Something to consider when choosing. Good luck.

Re: Stock Upgrade

I just put an A3 on a 6xc. This gun is going be used for plinking maybe a match or two, but mostly groundhogs and steel. Grip is a little cramped for me. I do like the narrow forearm, for shooting postions. Over all nice stock for a heavier hunting rifle build. Good quality, everything you would expect from a company like Mcmillain.

I do a bunch of shooting with a guy that just bought his 3rd T2 in less than a year. After running his I can not see buying any other stock than the T2.Fit finish and ergos are great Customer service for him has been great. Stocks came earlier than promised and they offer a nice LEO/Military discount. Their new mag system is awesome.

Re: Stock Upgrade

I got a manners T5 with 90% composite fill. No complaints at all - and manners was more than easy to deal with. They always answer the phone and are always polite and helpful, even with the the many questions I had. After getting it I realized (from fellow hide member) they do a mini chassis with DBM, and now they are installing that as well. Only other high end stock to compare was the McMillan A4, and like the way the manners fit me better.

Re: Stock Upgrade

Anything Manners. I like the T4 but just call manners and tell them what you are wanting to do and they can walk you through the differences. Plus they have great customer service.

Re: Stock Upgrade

Nfoley if you were interested in the mini chasis I bet they wouldnt charge you to inlet your stock if you sent it back. Anytime I have called about finish or barrel channel issues I have always been told send it back and they would take care of it at no charge.

Re: Stock Upgrade

T5- if you like a thumbhole style stock, you'll love the T5. By far the best thumbhole on the market. One of the most comfortable stocks out there.

T4- if you have large hands, the T4 rocks b/c it has a larger palm swell than the T2, plus a butt hook if that's what you like.

T2- (I love the T2), the T2 is better suited for smaller hands, it has no butt hook, which I prefer. I like to be able to slide my rear bag up and down the flat spot on the rear to adjust elevation, and rarely find myself using the butt hook on stocks.

Re: Stock Upgrade

Thanks Berger King. Agree about the customer service. And as a bonus they are right down the street from GA Precision, who will be doing putting my rifle together (once the barrel comes).
I felt a little guilty about not keeping my money local for stocks (McMillan is up in Phoenix) but I really liked the interactions I had on the phone with Manners. For someone with no experience with custom stocks they were extremely helpful and patient.

Re: Stock Upgrade

Manners is top notch. Them and McM both are an asset to the shooting industry. You couldn't go wrong either way, although I do think you went more right.

Re: Stock Upgrade

Another vote for Manner's. The customer service was outstanding to say the least. They really helped me and I've called with questions or to change something and have been very patient and friendly.

If I weren't so impatient and want my stocks now, I would order all my stocks from them.
