Has anybody purchased the money saver option? I was thinking of doing that so I could add the option of the adjustable cheek piece with the $$ saved. If anyone has bought the money saver, how much work is it to get it ready for paint? What kind of primer and paint did you use?

I have done three in the past. If you are just going to spray paint it they are very easy. I duracoated one and it was a breeze, rattle canned another very easy and then I got crazy and metal flaked the last and it to some time with all of the sanding.

I had some small areas at the forend, and the top of the barrel channel to fill, along with some small pits here and there. Nothing hard to do. I used some sandable rattle can primer, followed by some spray texture. Finished it off with Krylon.

Easy to do, I would definitely go money saver again. I got the kit from Kevin, but if I did it again, I would get some bondo from Harbor Freight. Krylon primer.

That is a nice looking rifle. What kind of spray texture did you use?
I've never been good with a rattle can and I was afraid of runs (I'm sure there's 5 year olds that can spray paint better than me) but I hadn't thought of using textured paint first. Then I don't have to worry about the smooth or glossy finish.

I put the Mule Deer money saver on my rifle and I will be buying another one for the next Savage I built. I used auto body glazing on mine to fill the very few pin holes. I also used it to texture the forend and grip and even to build up a palm swell. It worked great! I used Krylon to paint it.
