I am am in the process of researching a scope for my next rifle .The rifle will be a multitasker:hunting, target(paper and steel),and SHTF if(when)necessary .I would like to stay with mil-dot.Not sure what would be better as far as adjustments Mil or MOA.And not sure which SFP or FFP would be better for my purposes.I do know that I would like illuminated reticle though .Any suggests on brands and magnification ranges would be great.

Re: Sub $1800 Scopes

The rifle it will be topping is a Savage 110 in 300 WM.Hunting distances would be anywhere from 100-500yrds .Target distances would be 500-1000+. I may be looking in the wrong place but I can not seem to find the effect range for 300 WM. The few sites I have looked have said 1200yrds other sites gave me the impression that it was farther .I would like a scope that could if needed be effective at all distances within the capabilities of the round .I know that may be asking too much .

Re: Sub $1800 Scopes

All NightForce scopes have illuminated reticles, and a 3.5-15X50 or 5.5-22X56 would do you nicely. You can find them here for $1000-$1200 if they don't have all the extras like Zero Stops or High Speed Turrets.

Re: Sub $1800 Scopes

I've become a fan of the Vortex PST for half your price. You can find used Leupy MK4's occasionally in the $900 range as well. For a cheap workhorse I like the millet LRS. It's a gigantic beast looking chunk of glass but I know several people using them on 338LM for 1000yd benchrest and they aren't having any problems with tracking or repeatability. My personal rigs are Vortex PST, Leupy MK4, and a few Burris, Nikon on the woods guns.

This would also be my approach to the problem at hand.

The video was a joke so don't take it the wrong way. It's been around for awhile and is funny as fuck. The other stuff will honestly keep you from wasting your money by buying something your not really gonna be happy with. Good luck and Welcome to the Hide

Re: Sub $1800 Scopes

I like to think of optics like this a good scope on a shitty gun is still a good scope a shitty scope on a good gun is now a shitty gun. Point made simple make sure ur optics match ur intended use and weapon being outfitted.

LMAO

"On call of duty it says it means to have two pistols"

"Why dont you go home and hang yourself with your controller?"

"I cant, its cordless" *shrug*

That made my day!

Re: Sub $1800 Scopes

That video is some funny shit there!! Sounded like several of threads I have read.
Op I'm with the Vortex crowd. PST will get you a lot of features and great glass. Or find yourself a Razor and have it all. Plus if you ever have a problem they will stand behind their product 100%. The only two things they will not cover is lost or stolen. How can you go wrong with customer service like that??

Re: Sub $1800 Scopes

I took a look at the Shooter Ready demos.May try to get the full version soon .But if the demos are any indication I like the mil/mill combination and FFP.

I think the Night Force is the best scope for the money other than the SS 5x20.

Buy lots of ammo and good mount....

+1 having had both the SSFA 5-20 and a PST. I like the SWFA better, it is more expensive but worth the money.

I think they are about as good as you can get without owning one. Good luck
