I really want to own a sound suppressor for my tactical rifle. The problem is that i live in Illinois. PK Firearms is just down the road from me and they have some cans on some of there rifles and pistols. PK Firearms is one of the biggest AR warehouses in the us. I figure they have a class 3 or what ever type of licence. Well if they can have one i want one to. What and who do i need to talk to?? I think a suppressor just makes since!! This state i live in, is ran by a bunch of sissies!!! Anyone have any info for me? Thanks Lee

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

FORGET ABOUT IT HERE

There is ZERO tollerance for these in the state , I will not touch one with a 5000meter pole.
look at the laws while your headed to JAIL

Second the MOVE part if your wanting one

Bill

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

I was being a complete smartass with the move comment... having said that I simply cannot get it in to my head as to why suppressors would be banned in any state...I think it comes down to an education thing...most people simply do not understand the detremental effect of noise....

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

I'll chime in but I'm no expert.

The way it was explained to me was that they have their Class 7(?) manufacturers license which allows them to have the fun toys that we ordinary peons are forbidden to even think about. Apparently that entitles them to own full-auto's, suppressors, SBR's etc.

Move to a neighboring state and you're fine, but in Illinois, you're a felon. I'm sure that greasy Chicago politics are, as usual, are at the root of the problem.

A Type 07 FFL doesn't get you anything wrt NFA firearms. It merely allows you to manufacture "Title I" (aka non-NFA) firearms.

The SOT (special occupational taxpayer) fee on top of the FFL lets you deal and/or manufacture NFA firearms.

Negative, BATFE will not issue a SOT to an individual for collection purposes. SOT's are for business'.

Not unless you are a business......maybe a LE supplier or a new can company running some R&D before main production starts.

Hum.........

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

did someone say move, come on Lee the great state of ............. allows people to have fun toys, I bet you could take a big paycut and still be ahead, oh the weather in the south kicks ass, one winter in the south and you'll see

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

That's the trouble: the gun-friendly people move OUT of the state, and leave it more populated with freaking liberals than before. No, stay put, but start a groundswell of gun support. Take some kid under your wing. No, take as many as you can, get them interested, and then when they grow up, maybe they can either get into office or at least swing the tide. I will admit, it is nice to live in a gun-friendly state, and I did move from PRK, but it wasn't because of the gun restrictions. It was for work

You have a better chance of being blessed by the Pope than to have them liberals politicians in the great state of Illinois to change their rules about having an "evil" silencer. Hate to say it bro, in AZ you can have anything you want as long as your pocket is deep enough.

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

northern illinois had once boasted some thing like 80 plus rod and gun clubs ...or hunting clubs, but over the years and because of urban sprawl and the movement of the strip center and shopping mall ......there are less than a handfull...and me thinks they are mostly now a drinking venue ......the land has become too valuable and there is no longer any game animals to wander the shrinking club acreage.........sad

Neither of which has any bearing on the topic at hand since it's STATE LAW that forbids the possession of Suppressors and SBR's.

I called Blackwater to see if they had any type of variance worked out for LEO's going to the facility to train. Nope. None. I can't bring my duty weapon into the great state of Illinois to train. Technically I can't even do it if I am in "Hot Pursuit" of a fleeing felon. So if they manage to get to Illinois I will be happy to let you guys have them.

Hey chucklehead, I am not arguing that IL LEOs should have privelages you can't. I am arguing against placing a special weapons training center in a state that doesn't allow those weapons. And since I carry those weapons in my car and work near your border, then it would be unlawful for me to chase after our trash when it enters your state. Enjoy! Because I would never think of risking a violation of IL state law.

NO YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE IN ILLINOIS, plane and simple.

I grew up in Illinois and left...be like everyone else, visit Illinois on vacation to see the parents.

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

Nock... I am in the same boat as you. Grew up in Illinois... moved and go back to visit family only.

Suppressors in Illinois are a big no-no.

Exactly, thats the only reason I go back. They have a day waiting period on pellet guns if they shoot over 600 fps. I believe it is. Damn communist state.

Sorry to tell you but NY, IL, and Cali have all been taken over by liberal communists. You live in occupied country.

Good luck

Haha, liberal communists. If that isn't an oxymoron if I've ever heard one.

There really are worse states, but IL is pretty bad.

Re: Suppressor and Illinois??

I came to IL from Ohio with two safes full of guns. Every now and then I check to see if they're rusting away in there. There's almost nowhere to shoot without driving out of state.

And no... absolutely no cans in IL. It's a shame - they sure are fun to have around.

Write your Illinois Lawmakers here and state facts on Suppressors. I did, and all my friends have. If we get the word to them we might have a chance. Dunno, but it don't hurt. If the lawmakers passed the CCW, then if they get thousands of emails, it may help. I told them if LE can have them, then there is no reason we cannot. And that 8 states do not allow them.

So lets bombard them with positive emails.
