Sure Afghanistan sucks, but at least I've got a humidor full of cubans.

My wife sent one of my humidors from home and I filled it with the cigars I got in Dubai. The humidor, coupled with some deer jerky and a new knife, made for a hell of a package. You've got to enjoy the little things in life, right?

I'm the same way. I got a box of Partagas Series P No. 2 on my first tour in Afghanistan and have been buying them at the international duty free shops whenever I can. Man, they're a solid smoke.

Re: Sure, Afghanistan sucks, but....

Long after you and your squad smoke all the cigars, and eat all the jerky, and you lose the knife, and Astan is just a bad memory, I hope you and that little lady are still together and stronger than ever! She's a keeper!!
Thank you for your service, stay safe!

I know they've got cigar clubs at Bagram and the Embassy, but didn't hear of any at KAIA. It wouldn't surprise me though. I plan on hitting up the Bagram one if I'm ever not working on a Wednesday night.

Re: Sure, Afghanistan sucks, but....

There's a lot of novelty to the cuban cigars, but frankly I think you can get just as good a Dominican, Honduran, or Nicaraguan cigar back in the States. The quality control is so high with some of the premium sticks that they blow away most run of the mill cubans.

Still, it's nice to smoke what I can't get in the States. It's hard as hell to keep them at the right humidity here though. Everything is so damn dry.

Re: Sure, Afghanistan sucks, but....

Pretty sure KAIA has one, Camp Phoenix does or did seem like wherever I go here you can find a group of guys willing to talk cigars and sit down for a bullshit session and a smoke. I never had good luck with any of the cigars I purchased here, most seem to be pretty dried out, but there were exceptions. I have had good luck with CI getting here in one piece, just a thought.
I bought some cubans for my dad in Dubai on the way home one year and was worried about getting them through customs. I just put them in my carry on and no one ever blinked or looked twice.
Stay safe man. thanks for your service.
