I tried to capture my sticking bolt issue while chambering rounds this weekend on video, but suprise suprise, i could not recreate the issue after cycling 100rnds on video. Hopefully the action/chamber broke in and the issue is gone. I'm hoping to get out to the range this weekend, so if experience it again, i'll try to get a video of it.

Ran mine all weekend at the Alabama match. Finished 34th, zero hiccups all weekend. Ran like a champ.
I really like it. I prefer a Harris bipod, and like the little cutout so it sits a bit higher up to the barrel. I wish I could add some kind of barricade stop or rail to it, and that's my only complaint. Others who have gotten behind it either love it or can't get used to the grip. It does have a small ridge in the grip that lands right between your pointer and middle finger that some don't like. It doesn't bother me at all, but I would also be fine with it not there. But overall I am a big fan. That being said, the way barricades are more and more common, I'm building a PRS1 with MPA barricade rail, and I expect I'll make the switch to that at least for my competition gun. I'll most likely use the Sentinel at that time for my prairie dog gun which is 100% prone. I really like the T5 too though. If they made the new PRS line with that option, I'd jump all over it. But to answer your question, no, no clear advantages over the T5A you are running. It does feel a little more durable than my Manners though, but the only Manners I have to compare are in the EH line, and that could be a part of it. The Sentinel is definitely built like a tank.
Great write up on the KMW. If i ever build a .223 trainer, maybe i'll see if I can snag a used Sentinel for that build. I was gifted the T5A at a match last year for being much improved, so its slightly sentimental at this point LOL.
General question....blue or red loctite on the bolt knob ball? I did have my bolt handle come loose before putting a single round through it, but i red loctited that on and it seems to be holding. Just wondering if blue would hold up on the ball.
I think the blue would hold fine. Red would work better, but you'd need heat to get it off, if you ever needed to get it off.
I used red on my 700 when I got it threaded and changed. Never had mine come loose on the tempest. Blue would be fine though I don't think the bolt knob comes under enough stress to warrant red.
Well i had my first legitimate light primer strike today with the 30 hanger the Timney 2-stage. I guess i'll just consider it an outlier. 550 something rounds and one light primer strike..
It 99.99% time not the primer. Make sure your set screws on the firing pin are blue loctited in. They will and do eventually come loose which can cause problems.
Also a friend had an Timney CE go down on him at a match (Tempest in an MPA). The pin basically didn't even leave a mark on the primer. It was weird contributed it to a faulty or broken trigger.
In the bottom of the cocking piece. There are two, one under the other. Before you pull the first one out and tighten the second, re-measure your cocking distance to make sure it's right. When mine came lose, it not only didn't cock far enough but the pin was allowed to move forward too far.
Odd coincidence, i also had my first light primer strike this weekend. Triggertech on a #10 hanger. The primer did get dented, but not ignite. Chambered it again, and it went bang just like the rest.
I also had 1 sticking bolt issue in 100rnds, but overall it seems to be smoothing out nicely. Still need to loctite the knob on as well.

When i set out to build my custom rifle i wanted something that actually incorporated different function over a worked up remington. Which when you think about it other than tolerance and maybe an integrated rail/lug what is a deviant or surgeon 591 offering over a worked over remington? That's not knocking them, they're great actions, this is just my take on it and it's somewhat inline with the long rant that i think Ted of ARC made on his facebook page when he made the mausingfield. I just didn't see any point in dropping 1300$ on something that was going to essentially function exactly the same as my 700 but just exceptionally more refined. I've always loved seeing people manipulate the AI actions be it snipers or competitive shooters they look like they're silky smooth and run through anything. The only obvious con to an AI is that you're stuck with a chassis, which isn't my preference. I very much prefer a traditional stock and shooter better with one. Naturally i looked to alternatives to the AI and the first that came to mind was the Badger M2008 and later the M2013. If you've ever used a traditional 3-lug you'll notice the heavy bolt lift immediately. I've never personally used a Badger but had read plenty of complaints on the matter, to which i think they remedied some in the M2013. Time passed and the Tempest was announced, and it was pretty much the product i'd been waiting for. George designed the Tempest in mind to remedy the short comings or complaints of 3-lugs and that's mainly the heavy bolt lift upon recocking the firing pin. For all intensive purposes the Tempest pretty much resembles an AI AW in a 700 footprint. I wouldn't have any other action for competition, i love it.
If i was to go 2-lug/90 degree throw i'd look between the mausingfield and bighorn personally. Either way you end up going Sleeplz, get your action DLC'd less your in areas with high salt concentration and really have to worry about corrosion.
I agree ... cerakote makes the action verry sluggish ... am going DLC on all mine moving forward, and will refinish the ones I have eventually in DLC.
I am drooling here in this thread. I think I am sold on the Tempest for my next build. I notice OTM has an option for a Melonite finish. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to this over DLC?
I think it might be more corrosion resistant but don't quote me on that. I really don't know. I know there are complications that arise sometimes due to the heat used in salt bath nitriding/melonate for certain parts of the action that have temp limits below that of the process itself. Having said that i'm sure the guys at GAP and Horizon machine for that matter know what they're doing and Tempest actions are coming Nitrided now, or at least the bolts are to my knowledge. So i'd compare the cost and go with which ever is cheaper. They're both thinner and slicker than cerakote. I only have experience with DLC, and do love it. Have an SR3 getting DLC'd right now.
DLCing the entire action (from CCG at least) is gonna run at least 220$ and if you want chad to polish it you'll add another 90$ and you're looking at 300ish at least then. FWIW i had my entire barreled action DLC'd and chad polish various parts of the action. It ended up costing me around 450$ all said and done. If i had it to do over again i'd have just gotten the barrel cerakoted. DLC though has one me over for good. I don't think i'll own another custom action without coating in DLC.

I played with one at the JC Steel challenge along side my Tempest. I really liked the Curtis. It has just as easy of a throw as my Tempest with a .020 trigger hanger. It was rougher cycling, but faster if that makes sense. It looks like it may have a tad looser tolerances once the bolt is not locked up, which I honestly like in a competition rig. I get so much crud in my action with matches leaving the bolt open that by the end of the day, sometimes my Tempest is super slow unless I take out the bolt and wipe everything down. The Curtis left the impression it could be buried in sand and run like a champion. I was very impressed by it. It was their cheaper model. Not sure what the differences are between their two models. I would not hesitate to buy one, and having had a Tempest now for 2 seasons, If I did it over again today, I would get a Curtis I think. The only thing I did not like was the handle. I really like the ball style found on the AI and Tempest. If they had that as an offering, I'd probably move my Tempest and pickup the Curtis. All this was with a 10 minute evaluation time playing on some targets side by side with my Tempest. Dude who ran it finished top 5 though. For the money, that cheaper model would be a great way to go, especially over a standard 700 type 90 degree clone in the price range like a Stiller or something.
Yeah that's the only issue i could see, not having handled and only looked at one is that that standard 700 bolt handle and angle just isn't going to fly on a 60 degree throw. Needs to be swept back. While i wont sit here and say my tempest is as smooth dirty as it is clean i've never felt that it was slow. Even when i shot at providence it caught a ton of debris and ran fine. Admittedly i run it hard, as i think that's the way it's meant to be ran.

If i could get a swept back bolt handle the Axiom might make for a good .223 trainer though sticking with a tikka and a swept back bolt handle would be significantly cheaper despite 5 degree more of lift.

I have been considering going the tikka route for a .223 trainer as well. These were my thoughts exactly actually, having the tikka be similar to the tempest...if i can get my hands on one.
Good point. Mine was originally cerakoted. While it was OK, I didn't really want it that way (bought it new but from someone else who was just picking up the build and no longer wanted it). I put some bore paste on the bolt and worked it quite a bit, and have shot a fair amount since. There is only the tiniest bit of cerakote left inside or on the bolt. It's essentially just the stainless at this point. But I would get it Ionbonded or Nitrided. I'll probably still do that one of these off seasons. Best I can describe it is I felt the Curtis was like an AK-47. It left me feeling like it will run that exact same way no matter what happened to it. My Tempest feels like a M4. It gets a little temperamental if really really dirty. It still runs fast, but seems like it takes 15-20% more oomph when running the bolt with the increase in friction. It has caused me a few dumb mental mistakes towards the end of a dusty day like not pulling the bolt all the way back and starting forward causing jams and things like that. Movements that would have absolutely been a full cycle with a cleaner bolt. Maybe it's me or maybe it's mental, I don't know. Maybe I just need to pull my skirt up and run it harder!! I agree on a Tikka trainer with the swept ball handle. Have wanted to build one in for a prairie dog gun / trainer for awhile now. I still really like my Tempest, definitely not bashing it. Will be very interested to hear how you like your Curtis soon. Keep us posted!
edit: The Curtis I played with was polished stainless for what it's worth.

Just to clarify i don't have an Axiom on the way, my friend does. Which he got at a killer deal for i think around a grand DLC'd. But i'll be interested to see what it's like.
My only concern with the axiom is the location of the raceways. I feel like shooting in gritty/dusty locations would cause the action to become real gummed up. The raceways are at 12, ~4:30 and ~7:30 o'clock. I am still waiting for my Axiom but I plan on grabbing a handful of western Oklahoma dirt and throwing it in there to see what happens. I told Chase (the owner of Curtis Customs) I would report back with an honest and as unbias of a review as possible. Hopefully I'll have it soon! Mine will be full DLC'ed btw.

Thanks. It's actually the molded in color pattern on that particular KMW Sentinel. It's available on McMillian stocks molded in as well as they essentially make the KMW blanks, and Terry finishes them. Makes them pretty tough to mess up your camo finish. Definitely better lasting than kote. The green woodland is kote and wears significantly more. Not physically, just the paint scheme.

New barreled action arrived today, went to drop it into Manners T4 with mini chassis and the thing dosnt fit
The trigger hanger hits the chassis preventing the action screws from lining up.
Not one shy to resort to milling aluminum I removed the trigger for function check. Well the ejection port on the Tempest is larger than the cut out in stock. Running dummy rounds through it they were getting hung up on stock. Not keen on cutting CF shell.
So what stocks are you guys using? Hate AI stocks so thats not an option. Can anyone confirm if action works in MPA or KRG?
