Ok please forgive my ignorance but I have never competed in a match of this style and I am looking for some info. I know the range is 1K so I guess can expect possible targets up to that distance. Need to know your dope ect. (Only ranges close by are max 300yrd but my problem I guess not yours LOL, I better find a headland in the cane field with a back stop and work on some dopes in a hurry). What kind of targets do you shoot at these matches? I would assume steel, any paper? What kind of MOA do you need to hold in order to get hits at the further distances? Are there going to be moving targets where you need to be able to calculate lead? I know some of these questions may really not be able to be answered fully due to not knowing the course of fire. But any similar matches that you have shot in if you could give me some idea of what to expect. I am thinking about signing up but would like to compete and not provide comical entertainment for the other competors. The extent of my competion experiences is limited to pistol matches mostly USPSA. Please throw a dog a bone.

I should get an award for having to drive North LOL. Shreveport is WAY up there to us.

There will be both paper and steel targets. Don't know any specifics, but my guess would be that 2 MOA targets would be the majority (especially at distance), with some 1 MOA and smaller sprinkled in.

A 1 MOA shooter/rifle should be adequate. Don't know if there will be movers or not, but it can't hurt to know the leads for your load at various ranges.

One MOA rifles are easy to find - my $700 Winchester Model 70 HBVs will do that.

One MOA shooters are not so easy to find...

Barney, just jump in: Like in IPSC, the other competitiors will help you along during the match (although some will spin your scope knobs when you're not looking, but I hear that's confined to the south Texas area

Seriously: sign up, and if you need help, just ask.

You will need an accurate (sub-MOA) bolt gun or free-floated AR, with high-BC bullets (or .308 factory 175SMK's), and a scope with a Mil Dot reticle and external Mil or MOA knobs that track reliably. If you need to buy anything, the For Sale section is just a click away...

Well said. A one MOA shooter with a one MOA rifle will crush most shooters using the 1/4 MOA rigs.

Glad you are going to join in the fun.

Get a good velocity on your rounds and run the ballistics on JBM. There is no substituting putting rounds down range to get your dope, but this will get you close.

Well I have a rifle (700P) with a harris and a scope (Lupey MK4 w/ the TMR and M1 Turrets). So I do not feel that I would be at a disadvantage as far as the shooting stick is concerned. It shoots well under 1MOA if I do my part. The one thing that I am lacking is a range finder. Is this a must? I guess it would be handcap not having one? Meaning if you know all your dopes but do not know a range (especially further out) then really do you have anything? (One hand washes the other).

I just started loading for rifle and I have found a good load with 168SMK. Do you think that the 175SMK would be a better choice to go with? I guess that would depend on the distances. The 168 shoots light out close but due to lack of shooting ranges with greater distances I have yet to stretch it out. I have not developed a load yet for the 175's.

Anyway I guess just bare down, grab my set, and head on up would be the only logical thing to do. Basicly I would bring above gun, 200 rounds and possibly a rangefinder if I can pick one up between now and then. What else would I need? Can I just carry my rounds in a plastic ammo box or do I need some sort of vest/pack to carry rounds in?

I use my HSRC and a small day pack: fold up the rifle, toss everything into the pack, and move to the next firing point. Pockets will suffice if you need an extra mag on a run-and-gun stage.

Chances are, if they permit rangefinders then course design will make their use difficult. Just a hunch...

More useful than purchasing a rangefinder and potentially worth more match points: box the Leupy, make sure it tracks correctly beyond 10 MOA, and measure whether the M1 turrets are adjusting in true MOA or IPHY.

$700? Try $300 for a 1 moa rifle.

Comfort Inn at the junction of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop and I-49 on the South edge of Shreveport about 15 mins from the range. Adjacent to the hotel are Wendys and similar places as well as Home Depot, Academy Sports and Starbucks.

Two miles or so east of the hotel (the interstate runs north and south) is a Copelands small-chain seafood / steak restaurant begun by a New Orleans man. The portions are over the top and dinner is @$20.00+. I recommend, instead of stopping at Copelands, go the the next intersection 400 yds. farther, turn left (north), and in the shopping center on the right is a place called Monjuni's. A local family business, it's good and not chainy. A stone's throw farther north within eyesight are Carrabas and Macaroni Grill.

A good steak is at Anthony's on Mansfield road convenient and not too far, and the Cub on Kings Highway. These are two holes-in-the-wall excellent steak places.

The last chance for a meal is on the way to the range at the turn off of I-49 and LA #175 Frierson Exit. The Relay Station truck stop. Service is you-wonder-where-they-are and the food is a little better than that but it will get you to the range.

To get to the range, keep going Southwest on 175 for about two miles. Turn left at the bill board for the range which is two more miles down that road, and then some. You can't miss it. Call me at 318-572-0559 if you have any trouble or questions anytime.

The best bar in my opinion where one might go and avoid Bubba-and-the-boys is Superior Steakhouse at Line and Pierremont not far from the Comfort Inn. Thats where the pretty people go. Second choices are the Cub on Kings Highway and Superior Bar & Grill on Line Avenue. The former is a little more relaxed and has billiards too.

WRONG!!!! New Orleans is CREOLE. NOT CAJUN. A common misconception and something that they LOVE to boast about for the sake of Tourisium and the Millions it brings to the city. If you want true Cajun Food. New Iberia and Saint Martinville are at the HEART of Cajun country. Lafayette is a very close second. Now bien ouis icee en vous passe a bons temp.

Just registered for the match, number 39. Seems to be finally filling up. Will probably drive up early and skip the hotel/camping and lot lizards.

Why is this here? Shooters may check 100yd zeroes at sunrise.
CAVEAT: All shooters must be present at the beginning of the initial briefing, so we CANNOT drag-ass around at the zero range. I will update the time for that meeting. Depending on weather conditions we should be able to see to shoot at 7:00a.m. They'll give us probably until 8:00a.m.(Watch for final decision on begin time).

2.) Muzzle brakes will be squaded. So, somehow, let me know who will shoot a rifle in this match using a muzzle brake. The more information I have the smoother Jim and Terry can plan the match.

3.) Any equipment may be used with one condition: all of it must be carried / moved from one stage to the next. Pistols will not be fired, but you may holster it, unloaded of course! (Somebody would have asked) :). Velocity is unlimited.

4.) Time is of the essence, i.e.; Terry and Jim tell me we will have no time for horse play between stages, so consider this when planning your gear and time required to get it together only to spill it out again at the next stage.

Hi everyone. I am new here. Just so happens that I know Terry and Jim. They are a couple of great guys. They may have learned me something here and there.... I signed up around number 43 or something. I can't wait to shoot this match! If you are there and need a good laugh, just come to the end of the line!

At present we have 50 shooters having paid deposits or full fees. We encourage additional shooters to deposit in order to get on the standby list. Personally, a shooter may even show up ready just in case someone fails to show. So, you may reserve a standby slot in the order your deposit is received and be sure to leave Ron your telephone number by which you may be contacted.
