The Actual Cost of an Unlicensed Suppressor

Wife imparted this story over dinner last night, about the brother of a co-worker.

The guy is mid 50's.
He's a bit of a nut over police stuff and a big gun collector.

Some nosy neighbors had been observing a good number of college kids coming and going from his place and thought maybe he was dealing out of his house.
Turns out he wasn't. Just liked hanging out with the kids and shit. Nothing weird.

Cops pulled a warrant.

They found the guns and all of police stuff, badges, scanners, patches, tac gear, etc.
Zero drugs. Zero contraband of any kind, except one home made unlicensed can.

They tried to pin all kinds of terrorism shit on him, but ultimately all the guns checked out clean and they had no real evidence that he was going to do anything at all.

That would have been the end of it, but for that one solvent trap.
Now he's in fed lockup awaiting trial and could pull ten years.

Like I said, that's third or fourth hand info, but it's something to think about if you're one of those folks who are so inclined to DIY.

That truly sucks but cops got a payday. There is obviously no way they knew that the can was there ahead of time.

I find that the knowledge of a particular subject is more important than the resulting physical item. This applies to much more than suppressed firearms but I leave that as an exercise for the student.

I have a stamp. I was trying to speak for every redneck out there that's furtively buying filters and thread adapters from Ace hardware.

It's not illegal to keep threaded fuel filters in the gun room is it?

No, but it is, most likely, illegal to have treaded attachments for a barrel of a gun you own AND filters in the same place - as it shows intent.

People do get convicted for that. You need to be extremely careful.

Frankly... its easy enough to get a few high quality ones and pay the tax stamps.

Intent is a bullshit charge. Ranks right up there with disorderly conduct.

As if????

Our elected politicos care not about anyone but their own gain.

The travesty being laid before the American public right now is there for everyone to see. Congress has done not one iota of work other than obstruction.

Yet our voting public continues to do nothing...TINVOWOOT
