Rifle Scopes The LAST scope you'd ever own?

I ran a 3-15 premier (gen2xr though) for a while and it's one of those scopes I'll own forever. Fov like you mentioned is awesome along with the way it handles mirage and parallax. I noticed I hardly had to mess with parallax under most match stages.
I had a 525 ATACR and hated the rotating ocular.
4-16 atacr....maybe could look past it.
But, I just looked up the ZCO ... never heard of them ..very intrigued by the 420 one!
The k318i seems like a good choice, but it's so close in price to the k525i, I may as well choose that one. Both are relatively short optics.
The 5-25 PMII still seems like a did workhorse. I think the 3-27 is probably out of my budget.
Any thoughts on ZCO? Only hesitation is that they're brand new company, right?

To answer the OP. I own quite a selection of scopes. From a “tactical” perspective on a .308 bolt gun as you describe, I LOVE my S&B PMII 3-20X50. MTC Mil, H2CMR reticle.
It has excellent magnification, sized well for the intended use, tracks as close to perfect as I can tell. Glass is excellent, reticles are very personal, but I love the H2CMR.
For me, and my uses, this could be my one and done scope.
I also have the 5-25 PMII with a GEN II XR. I like it. It’s excellent in any way we judge scopes. But for “just one”, I love my 3-20 maybe a touch more.

For the "last" scope I wouldn't put money into anything without a year or two on the market with hopefully more history behind that.

Last year I bought a March 3-24 x 42 FFP with the FML-1 for my .223, and have just put another (FML this time) on my .280. 20 oz, reticle is very useable on 3x, amazing glass and a package that can be carried up mountains all day long (and down them too). I looked at S&B (too big, too heavy), Nightforce (don't like their reticles for hunting) and put my money where my mouth is.
Everybody has a different weighting on the features they consider necessary, but I can't see me replacing these scopes.

What's this concept of a "last scope" you talk about? It hasn't been invented yet.
The Minox MR4 reticle is my current favorite on a great scope. Not going to spend TT $ until I love their reticle, which I currently dont, but hoping they put one out I do. Honestly The Vortex probably wont ever leave my stable. Aside from the weight it just gets so much right. Debating hard on standardizing on the Minox but its a costly endeavor when the Vortex is 95% of the way there and can be had for little more than half the cost of the Minox. Plus I can get the same reticle in scopes of lower power or lower in their lineup for rimfires, a 223 trainer rifle, etc.
It seems to work pretty good for pigs and coyotes. I had to pull it out to take a picture of it.
I have a decent laundry list of high end optics.
Out of all of them, for a .308 Win, I would have to choose either the Tangent Theta TT315M, S&B PMII 3-20×50 MTC LT (or the US version), or Premier Heritage Light Tactical 3-15×50. The Kahles K318i (I only own a K624i for now) would be right on the heels of these however.

Minox zp5 MH4.
Very good glass solid adjustments and the best reticle I've used.
Some have glass a bit brighter in conditions
Some have a longer record of reliability
Some are a little lighter.
No others owned or used have all the parts in this package.

I've got a couple of S&B 5 X 25 X 56.......both bought for less than your 3K budget.......do it, you will not be disappointed
Well it looks like I am getting a Kahles 6-24, skmr3, lsw.
My bud is selling his so he let me use it today at the Peacemaker/Kestrel Shootout PRS match. It's a nice scope and I'm enjoying it, but wasn't sure about buying it ...but, on the Kestrel barricade stage which is a giant Kestrel wind meter made of steel, I scratched/gouged the shit out if the objective on the side of the barricade port. F*ck!

Listen to this guy... this is sage advice... @Nik H knows truths too! There is no last scope.... I seriously need to avoid facebook, and this forum I've thought about just deleting my accounts b/c I barely have time to shoot anymore anyways.... It's very very very bad for pocket books and obsession to always have "the best". The wiser guys than I have already said good words of wisdom. Think reticle first... if I were you and your hardly shooting competitions avoid the messy xmas tree reticles. I used to hate the Gen2XR (before I bought a Tangent theta); but, now I love it. It's clean enough, and most stages in competitions you have time to dial.... just ask Matt Brousseau whom uses a H2CMR reticle... xmas trees aren't necessary just nice to have.
For the sake of discussion, I agree with @koshkin and @Covertnoob5 my top choices are still Tangent theta 5-25 gen2xr and my nightforce atacr...I loved both my 5-25 and 7-35 (I still own and won't sell this one) and could not distinguish between the two in glass quality. Be careful with saying "I'll never buy one it's too ridiculously expensive..." that's a gateway statement to buying one haha.... trust me I bought two TT's and ended up just selling one..
This sickness is real... I recently had a foray with buying a minox zp5 mr4... again for the THIRD TIME! I've sold the other two months ago.... it's really really bad. I used to say my viper pst II 6-24 ebr2 FFP was enough...guess what I was probably right. 20 high end scopes later I'm left feeling empty again... b/c I can't compete at this time in my life b/c of family obligations (I had a decent run in 2016 finishing with a top 20 in a points race 2 day match out of 3 total that year, and yearn to return for a serious run at it again).
If your the type of guy whom absolutely needs to itch that scratch, buy the PMII... don't like it, sell it and buy the minox zp5. Just be prepared to lose some money doing so... you may end up finding your perfect scope this way. But I can guarantee you there will always be that yearning..."huh maybe I should try that scope out again, I really liked it, and don't 100% like XYZ feature(s) on this current one... but like everything else about it".

Good buy. I say everything happens for a reason. Now get some cloth tape on the scope so you don’t beat any more sh!t out of it.
He's a scope vandalizer. But before that his statement was, I'm trying really hard to hate this scope. Of course he loved it. She served me well the last year and she will serve you well for the next 3 months cause you are an optic slut that is going to change, no matter what you may say right now.

I've got extensive time behind my NF 4-16x42 and think mighty highly of it as a do everything optic. S&B 3-20 just arrived so I'll be doing a side by side at some stage. I've previously owned a USO 3.2-17x44 and a Premier light Tactical and currently have a Lrtsi 4.5-18 in the stable. For a one and done scope I'd always opt for an optic in the range mentioned for the type of shooting I do. I did have a March 5-40 which was simply amazing, but I prefer the overall package of the middleweights
