The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

Tucker301Lowlight I can't believe this has got sticky status yet . . . any help there Sirs ;)

Ya, What he said. My Priority is always to have this thread on the first page. So, weather they sticky it or not. I'm gonna post and keep it up. You gentleman, are doing a fine job helping me make sure that happens, because the MRAD just plain KICKS ASS!!!

I couldn't be more proud! When I started this thread after the move I thought it might go a page or two before interest would die off. I never thought it would be a sticky'd thread. While researching the MRAD it seamed like there was a bad taste in everyone's mouth that it took so long for them to come out with conversions calibers. The MRAD is truly a great rifle and deserving of it place on the first page. Now, if we can get to 300 something pages like the DTA thread I'll be really impressed. I'm getting my rifle out now so I can fondle it and whisper sweet nothings to it.

MRAD Masterace as the german says!

This forum is great, not many out there with good info or guys that actually help out. Thought it was going to be long gone after the sniper hide split from scout, but am glad to see it back alive!

I don't think we will ever get that big, just because the DTA has a huge head start, and a much larger acceptance, but that doesn't mean the MRAD isn't just as worthy. I for one welcome our new sticky status and look forward to posting in it for the foreseeable future.

If anything, it'll help others considering the MRAD better educate themselves. I know when I was looking at the MRAD, there isn't a lot of information out there from owners, just people indicating they won't buy one because they couldn't buy the caliber conversions.

Yeah well fuck those guys! All joking aside here is my new babY...

Tungsten Grey MRAD in 338 Lapua Magnum!!!

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics it was all I had time for. Dad duty calls. I have new rings inbound and will post pics as soon as I get it mounted!!

Nice looking rifle Sierracharlie. I see you put one of the short rails on the bottom. I put the long rail on the bottom because some times in I have to put the bipod closer. Example: shooting off a narrow berm.

Ya, What he said. I like the tungsten grey, nice rifle SeirraCharile338(Did you buy from EuroOptic?). I think you should consider a Sig Sauer Tango 6 5-30x56, it would look nice in a Spuhr mount! I'm on my 3rd tango 4 of a different magnification and I'm really impressed with the quality of the glass. I've been waiting for Lowlight to review the Tango 6 one he has and it seams like he's taking his sweet ass time getting around to doing a full review. I messaged him when we switched back home, I know he has his hands full. Their reticle is almost the inverse of the ERB-2C with the dot in the middle and no center less design. I'm digging it big time.

Thanks! Yep couldn't pass the deal on EuroOptic! Selling a gun I really didn't plan on but again it was too good. If that brown one they have for sale was any other caliber I would have bought that. I have a buddy talking about a Sig scope so I may let him buy one first HAHA.

I went to Barrett.

The tungsten is bad ass! Congrats on the sick stick!
it is nice to see some different colors now and again!

Can't wait to hear the range report, you will love it! Maybe not as much as Ian....but he may have some issues. LOL

I don't think you would be disappointed. I'd imagine it's as good as the Vortex razor 2 or the Nightforce 5-25? Maybe not a S&B?!? I bought a brown one from EuroOptic and it matches my Vortex. I sold the 300 win mag barrel and bought A 338 carbon barrel at a steep discount!!!!!

You wonder if someone on here will step up and buy the last one?

Thanks man! I'm partial to it as this is gun number 3 with that color scheme.

If all goes well I will have some info for you from the range this weekend. (If rings get here by then)

I'm curious to see that as well. I didn't plan on (or even know about it) buying until you clowns ruined me!!

What are the other 2?

I can take full credit, if that makes you feel better?

Just look at my Profile, Right below my Call sign. I'm not an Actor. I'm just a bad influence and proud of it, No Appologies!!!!

Savage 260 in element chassis (sold few months ago) and a custom glock 19

I went to Barrett.

Stainless guns always give me chub!

I'm thinking about putting my Savage FCP-SR in an element and adding a 6.5 carbon proof since it won't sell here.

I'm also looking at a Glock 20 with nickel boron slide and barrel. I live in Griz country. I can't always carry my MRAD 338 with me at all times!!!

Anyone know when the trigger was improved? Gen 1< Gen 2 ???? In some of the videos on youtube Barrett Jr. talks about improving the trigger. I didn't know if this was before production started or on the new lightened Gen2 chasis?

I have an early .338 MRAD that has the large breech and 30 MOA rail, and it has the same fantastic trigger and the new gen I just bought. Weight of pull is nearly identical with no creep and about the same travel so my guess is they are the same and they were improved before production.

I've been reading into it but have not seen the best way to tell if it's a large breech or small breech

99.99% you have a small breech, if you bought one of the Tungsten units from EuroOptic, and that is what you want as it will work with all the conversion kits barret offers. On the one chance in ten thousand you ended up with a large breech you will have to get a breech conversion kit (about $400) before you start running different calibers.

If you got to know for sure just ask the guy who sold it to you.

So if it's a small breech I don't need the conversion kit but if it's a large breech I will? Am I right with that line of thinking?

Yes but (1) I'de be glad to bet its a small breech because I asked Kieffer at EuroOptic before I bought mine, and (2) it's no big deal any how because a "Breech Conversion Kit" is just a spare bolt less the bolt face and lugs that come with the barrel.

Do you need 30 or 34mm? I have a set of Badger 30s sitting around.

Optic is a 6.5-20x50mm with an ARD on it. I'm using Badger P/N 306-54 which are the 1.375" versions. I have a very small gap between the rail and objective, its the perfect height for a 50mm.

Yeah Im in need of 30mm for my NXS. Looks like I will need the 1.375 as well since my scope is a 50mm objective. Shoot me a PM with what you want for them if you don't mind please.
TheGerman

Not sure if these will work for you, they are Badger p/n 306-09 which are the 'high' 1.125 rings. That quarter inch MAY fit or it may not, I'm not 100% sure.

What scope do you have? We can try and run a calculator on your setup.

According to Barrett the large breech has a 1.08" bolt diameter, and small bolt is .93". You should definitely have the small breech, they update was quite a while back. My 1st gen is several years old.

Just because. . . .

So has anyone shot out a barrel yet? Was curious who/what/where you go to for a new barrel since you don't need to buy the entire conversion kit each time (which would be retarded) and Barrett doesn't seem to sell individual barrels.
