A little perspective.

When I was a young man at 40, the flu was a 2 day sniffle.

When I was older at 50 I was throwing up with fever but not willing to waste a sick day that could be used for fishing or hunting.

Last year at 60 cought the flue from grandkids . Was bed sick for a couple of days and bad off for a week.

I'm sure a lot of 80 year olds will die.
I know full well how the same issue effects different people amd and different age groups having been in the medical field and law enforcement for the last 17 years.

The flu(s) where widely established globally before surging into the northern hemisphere this past fall.

We can really compare the numbers yet.
I know that. Just injecting more info into this thread.

Either they're blowing shit waaaaay out of proportion, or they're not telling us something.....

Its just history repeating itself for which we have failed to learn from it

The Black Death was a plague pandemic which devastated Europe from 1347 to 1352 CE, killing an estimated 25-30 million people. The disease, carried by fleas on rodents, originated in central Asia and was taken from there to the Crimea by Mongol warriors and traders. The plague entered Europe via Italy, carried by rats on Genoese trading ships sailing from the Black Sea. With up to two-thirds of sufferers dying from the disease, it is estimated that between 30% and 50% of the population of those places affected died from the Black Death. The death toll was so high that it had significant consequences on European medieval society as a whole, with a shortage of farmers resulting in demands for an end to serfdom, a general questioning of authority and rebellions, and the entire abandonment of many towns and villages. It would take 200 years for the population of Europe to recover to the level seen prior to the Black Death

You apparently missed the little box with some 600 diagnosed and 22 deaths in all of the US.

and unless your physician is still bleeding you with leeches I think even the worst Obamacare plan can likely get you through the sniffles.

We, as humankind also have antibiotics, virology, epidemiology and pretty amazing medical testing abilities.

I get many are pissed as they watch their investments go down the drain.

My opinion we are not out of condition yellow with this particular virus yet. And there will likely be others worse yet. If one isn't seeing the trend then I don't know what to say.

The prudent might research how to boost the immune systems, and look at self treat options to at least try and not rely on a health system that could easily be overwhelmed by any serious pandemic.

Open borders policies. yea! o_O

Open borders and outsourcing manufacturing may indeed be revisited after this bullshit.

Did you know here in the US, our last penicillin manufacturer closed in 2004? That's insane. We rely on global supply sources for things that are on the importance of our national security.

Well, mexico is only reporting 7 cases (6 plus one "recovered", if you believe the numbers). Perhaps they will seal the border keeping people from the US out of mexico...

But hey....We have evolved past an industrial manufacturing economy.......We are now a "more evolved" service economy.......ie we produce nothing in ordering to create wealth backed by nothing.

Maybe investing in it is more risky than ever before.

I mean if there are so many dependencies, propped up by fake cash injection, and easily blown over at the first sign of trouble.

Politicians gave our manufacturing jobs away for campaign donations to keep them in office. Remember they told everyone that those jobs were no longer needed in the US. Words from people who never worked for a living and never ran a business but they come up with great trade deals which cripple the US economy and help the trade partner and again thanks for the political donations.

At least in the past there was a tangible asset.

What the fuck is Facebooks tangible asset other than the privacy of 350m Americans?

The numbers are telling. In the USA, the common flu has infected 45,000,000 and killed 46,000 (a mortality rate of 0.10%; when compared to COVID19, which has infected 500 people and killed 21 in the USA, thats a mortality rate of 4.2%.

Id say there is no hype with COVID19, if anything its being down played. For comparison, the Spanish flu of 1918, had a mortality rate of 2.4% and killed between 50-100 million people globally.

The privacy of 350 Americans is worth all the money in the world, and more. Our enemies know your face, all your kids faces, and if you get in a situation where they want to lean on you, it could not be easier. Can you believe certain pro gun groups have a presence on Facebook? Why don't you just carry all your guns down to the police station and register them there, because that not as bacd as posting on Facebook where it NEVER goes away. Anybody uses Facebook is an idiot.

We also haven't been widespread testing. When the numbe of cases skyrockets due to testing, we'll see if the mortality rate holds. I doubt it.

What do you think will happen to that rate when those 1.1 million test kits sent out today get used? US has been testing at a rate of 7 people/1 million

I don't think we have enough info or seen enough cases to compare the two. Right now, you are comparing apples to oranges......look at the age and existing health conditions of those passing.

Seems like the "worst cases", those reporting to hospitals, are being tested.

What if my second day of upper respiratory infection, I'm walking wounded, is actually coronavirus?

I wont be counted.

They will hang Trump when the numbers come out.

The drums of war are already sounding.

Good point; the mortality rate will likely drop significantly (hopefully), but then again, how many people died of the common flu this year, but actually had COVID19 and weren’t tested for it.

More availability of testing will give us a better idea for sure. Another factor to consider is rate of transmission (which is supposedly higher for the flu). Also, we have a vaccine for the common flu, which many get yearly. We have no vaccine for COVID19.

In the mean time, less people traveling and cheeper gas is always good. ??

The numbers or the View Braintrust lol? Joy Behar who doesn't know AOC isn't old enough to run. Pretty sure anyone who gets their news from those ladies is a vote that was never heading Trumps way.

Yeah, The View,,,,,sure.

Whoops last week was saying Jill Biden, excuse me, Dr. Jill Biden would make a great Surgeon General.

She is an "amazing doctor".

Shall we look into Jill's doctorate?

Yeah the Dems would have a much better handle on this.........

we DO NOT have a vaccine for this years strain of the common flu. When will folks learn u cannot develope a vaccine for something until after the fact. The shot u get this year, is for last years strain. JHC

Yep just hoping that the vaccine derived is close enough that next years strain will be "weakened" by an immune system that's been "woke".

Covid19 is already likely replaced by Covid20.

I know someone, who knows someone who has a confirmed case and has been quarantined. That quarantined persons words on how "bad" it is?
"It's a fucking cold, no more, no less."

So.
For all you folks claiming it can't be a "hoax", what is a hoax exactly? Isn't a hoax, manipulating a story to fanciful and outrageous proportions, then passing it off as truth?

The goldamned Democrats are wetting their fucking underwear, and foaming at the mouth that this may keep Trump's rallys from taking place. They are salivating over BILLIONS being allotted to their "broke as fuck" states. Big money to dole out to their pals and buddies.

What would be hilarious, is that 9 billion go to closing the fucking borders.

This morning they interviewed one of the people that was on the first cruise ship. He and his wife were quarantined on the ship then on a military base and then sent home for sell quarantine.
He's tested positive five times and doesn't have a single symptom. No fever, no aches, no runny nose or anything. His wife tested positive and she had a mild fever for less than a day but now tests negative. The man has had an organ transplant of some sort IIRC.
I think many people that have had the regular flu may have had the Corona virus but got well and moved on.

Why didn't they take these steps when AIDS broke out, they didn't enforce a No Fucking Policy ?

Because they didnt care about blacks or fags back then. Or now even.

The viral equivalent of Global Warming.
I'd like to see the tax money totals being "used" for this
a poky lips...

Apparently it is 8.3 billion.

My math is a bit more pessimistic. Let's say you get sick and after 2 weeks you draw the lottery: cured or dead.
If I look at today's Italy numbers, 463 dead and 724 recovered. That makes 1187 who participated the lottery.
61% of those got the lucky ticket. 39% not.
South Korea: 53 dead, 118 recovered; chances to recover 69%.
Japan 81%.
UK 81%
Spain 53%.
The many thousands still sick are only waiting their turn to the lottery. We will see if the numbers change.
