My neighbor, a taxidermist, took in this freak yesterday.
In some cases the testicles fail to descend when the fawn begins to mature. This messes up the antler growth / loss cycle and the result is a buck that is always in velvet and always growing antlers.
Well, until he gets shot anyway.

Yup, cryptorchidism, how old was he, do you know? Sound a bit like a hunters wet dream if he’s always adding size huh. If he got to grow to be an old timer he may have had up to 10” bases. Cool harvest, kinda like an albino in rarity. Definitely a $600 deer as I call em. #taxidermyfees

Just texted him and he hasn't skinned it out yet, but he's guessing 3.5.

That's a pretty cool looking cactus buck. I thought I shot one once in western KS but it actually ended up being a doe with antlers. The game warden kept looking at it funny until he realized it was a doe. He asked if he could take pictures to show the guys back at the shop because they've heard of the anomaly but never seen one in person. This is cartilage growth and never fully hardens. Broke a couple tines off when she hit the ground from being brittle.
