and they are a fun summer time device to push younger relatives or friends dumb enough to take the ride down a hill in . they almost always crash .
I always return my cart to a corral, because I'm not a fucking heathen.
It pisses me off when you go to pull into a parking spot and there are carts in it that some asshole decided they were either too good or too lazy to take care of.

I have zero issue with a woman that has a small child with her, leaving her cart near her parking space.
There is a remedy for this.
Shopping carts that explode and kill the user if it's not properly returned to its docking station .

Assholes and Democrats are the likely culprits. Welfare fucks are just lazy pieces of shit. Shopping carts are expensive as hell and ruining them makes eggs 6 bucks a dozen.
Aldi has solved this problem.
This is a regional / cultural / tribal issue.... I have worked long term in many areas and observed it for many years. A good bench mark as to where to relocate. It has to do with "pride"... Pride is something that comes from within a person.
It can be seen on one street in Garden Grove, CA.... Little Saigon on one side of the street where the Asians live and on the other side of the street is where the Mexicans live... Asian side is neat, clean and conducting commerce... The other side is a shit hole... Saw the same thing in New England and the PNW....It has nothing to do with how wealthy a person is. It's about personal pride.

Here at my office (which is in one of our apartment complexes we own), my tenants who walk to walmart for their groceries and bring them home in the cart, is perfect proof that these idiots out here are not able to contribute to society and must be governed with an iron fist, so it seems.. I have no less than 50 shopping carts that were scattered about but are now pushed into 1 long ass line and left on the street. Code enforcement has called walmart THRICE, and have already fined them $1400 and walmart wont come get them. I talked to the manager that was working the other day and told him that if they aren't gone soon, im taking them to the fucking scrap yard and keeping the money. These people out here dgaf about anything.
Run an ad on Craigslist under the "Free" heading.... or.... run it under "parts" and title it as "Free Casters", must take all...

The woman that lives next door to the west of me has 5 yapping little shits.
They escape and shit in my yard. They stand in the back yard and yap at exactly nothing.
They yap as she opens the door to let them out.
They yap if I open the door to my house.

I could not disagree more. Not to mention, many Publix, grocery stores do not have cart corrals. And up until about 10 years ago, none of them did.
Any real gentleman would have no issue grabbing one or two loose carts on the way in the store and putting them away without bitching like a pussy about it. Everyone thinks they know what’s best for everyone else. That’s what’s wrong with this country.
My world has real problems, and grocery carts aren’t even on the list.

I don't know where you live, but I'm 32 and have always had cart return stalls, and there are always some a spot or two away from the cripple spots, not that most of those fake handi-assholes couldn't actually walk a cart 30 yards to the coral anyway.
Agreed. The responsible people returning carts won't ding your car, and for the lazy POS population, there's one less side of your car to ding if you park directly beside the return

Y'all aren't seeing the real issue. If everyone starts returning their carts, what will happen to all those cart wrangler jobs at Walmart? Y'all obviously don't care about community employment.

Back to the shopping cart thing:
Just got back from Publix. Picked up $40 worth of salad makings. Yeah, I don't fuck around. It's worth eating or I don't bother.
I used the cart to shop and to take my groceries outside since my neuropathy is at a 9 today.
I dropped it off at the cart corral which is next to a handicap space at the front of the store. The only others were one aisle over to either side. Total of four carts out there and all of them in corrals.
By the time I walked the 100' to the truck, I was wishing I had kept the cart. If I had, I would have still had to make the walk back to the corral and then dealt with the hobbling to the truck anyway.
Such is life.
Most Publix shoppers not only use the corrals, but lots of times people will take carts into the store or take them from someone returning a cart.
Different kind of people.
Don't get me started on Winn Dixie, Target or Walmart/Sams.

Since I have/need to use a cane to walk, I'm the first one to grab a cart. My Lady does the majority of 'choosing things' that are needed, to go into said cart.
I actually DO park in the handicapped spot. I actually DO have a placard, and I actually DO appreciate the ability to do such. Thing is, I actually DO hate having to need to, to begin with.
There is only one store around here, that we call "Cambodian Tire" (because everything inside seems to be made in Cambodia and such) that actually has the 'cart corral' next to the 'designated parking spaces'. Seems everyone else has theirs either 'inside' the store, or in the center of the parking lot.
On good days, I'll take the carts back inside, simply because that is the shorter route than getting it out there further to the corral. On 'my' bad days, My Lady will put it wherever she wants to walk to. In the meantime, I'll be getting the truck running, and pick her up from wherever she dropped it off.
The majority of stores we frequent, require a 'loonie' to unlock the cart. Funnily enough, the majority (all?) of the carts are not left 'willy-nilly'. The few times of the year where we walk into Wally-World and such, there is carts, lost-and-found items, trash, and detritus laying everywhere. Inside AND Outside of the store. That right there is one of the reasons why we go there so infrequently.
Society measures itself. It is 'intelligence' that sees and knows the difference. (says a LOT, right there)

I'm about half crippled and spend a lot of time sitting in the car waiting on the Wife to shop. I let Her out at the front door and drive out to the far reaches of the parking lot to wait on Her to text that She's ready. So I get to observe lots of behavior. I've seen the Elderly, the partly crippled people like me, Women and Girls with kids, ect take their carts back. Most of the diddonuffins and meth looking ones leave it out in the lot. Pisses me off! It really ain't that hard!
I leave it in the middle of the lot to create employment for the aged and the retarded.

We have no such poor people grocery stores here lol... Publix is the main one. Feel free to google earth Publix at 800 Belle Terre Pkwy Palm Coast FL, you will not see a corral in the parking lot. They have three single cart lanes cut into planters deep out in the lot. And that is the flagship store in the county.
We have lots of truly disabled vets, FDNY, NYPD in that town (I live in the same county).
I also see unescorted moms with baby carriers. They generally need to put the baby in the car, then load the groceries. After that I PRAY none push a cart to a corral. Just wanted to point out there are lots of legitimate reasons to not return a cart, so I don't waste any moments concerning myself with loose carts in a parking lot. I always grab one or two if I pass them on the way in.
And if I see a parking lot full of carts I have always considered that a lack of proper management and staffing on the part of the store. Also, if you always park far leaving the closest spots for moms and elderly you will rarely have an issue being blocked by a loose cart when parking.

I see the returning of a shopping cart to the cart corral the same as I see getting the clot shot, or turning in your braced AR............someone else thinks it's "the right thing to do". They pay people to do that..........when I was a kid, sacking groceries, I carried bags, and boxes to the customers cars.

There is a thing called common curiosity and it was around long before any of that BS shots and ATF rules.
Been many years since I've been to a Publix, but stocking and bagging groceries at one was my high school job for three years. No idea how things have changed in the decades since, but bagger carryout was store policy as was no tipping. We of course wouldn't force it, and I had many old ladies cop a feel shoving a buck in my back pocket after I declined a tip, but we pushed the loaded carts out, dropped the groceries in the trunks, and shagged every abandoned cart we passed on the way back. Once an hour one of us would go to the outer parking lot to collect up abandoned carts from there, and at closing one of us would circle the entire shopping center to get any others. The KMart in the same shopping center would have their shit everywhere (worked there for a spell too, gladly went back to Publix after 6 months with a raise each way) because KMart sucks and they really didn't care until closing or they had no carts left in the store.
There were no cart corrals, kids were employed and learned good workforce fundamentals in the formative years, elderly had a good job to supplement their SSI if they made poor financial choices in early life. The customers not only got great service, their Beemers and Jags were safe from stray carts.
Physical disability, by all means do what you can and pass on what you can't. I've grabbed far more than one cart from someone I've seen trying but having a hard go at it, well past when I did it for a living. Old habits, old manners.
As for women with little kids, my wife raised three kids within four years of each other while working full time and getting her BS degree when all were toddlers at once and her then husband perpetually deployed. She is the first to call out lazy moms bailing out of some simple task or chore in the name of "But I have the baby...", and she's specifically gone off on rants about lazy moms in a parking lot abandoning a cart. I shut my mansplaining mouth and chuckle.
