Hmmm, cop lied on his report to cover his ass for shooting into a house and injuring the homeowner. He is sent home on administrative leave, probably with pay. He will remain on vacation until the investigation is over and the DA or the Chief decide to clear him or fire him. 10 to 1 says that it will be on the homeowner to file a civil suit against the agency, officer and city because the investigation will take many months to finish. Time will allow the outrage to wane and the story will be last page news.
Change the scenario and the civilian sits in jail until they decide his date.

You are not correct in your assumption depending on the state and the corresponding trespassing laws. In this case the cop was trespassing and the homeowner is within his right to defend himself and his property. To what extent is determined by state law. The cop did not know his responsibilities, which is not to shoot an innocent homeowner.
Then we would have a sudden increase of Leo killing from inside their car..
Pretty sad we live in a time where an armed burglar at your front door is less of a threat than a cop.

Not sure where you're getting the "immeadiate threat to life" thing.
There are laws about brandishing and threatening people, but there's no blanket law that applies to someone in their own home who is reacting to signs of an intruder in the middle of the night.
I would have handled the situation differently than the dude in the video (not showing myself to the bad guy through the door/window) but I don't see why the cop felt it was appropriate to shoot into a closed/locked home 4 times.
what if wife son or family member came down with a shotgun and put the cop down, then what????

We are under attack from all sides. It’s a sad day when you can’t even depend on those that are supposed to be the good guys. This must be stopped. This is happening far to often.. though once is a few times to many.
I was living next to a meth family not to long ago. I keep a surefire beside my .45. (It does actually get dark in Alaska.. especially in winter). When I saw a flashlight shining through my front window, I responded in kind. Pied to the front door and cracked it to find it was a trooper. Verbally told him I’m setting my gun down and then set the flashlight up on the ledge above the outer doorway. (Open mudroom outside of door) trooper was rather surprised as he thought he was dealing with a house not a duplex. We had a decent conversation about our neighbor after that. Then a month or so later the trooper ends up in jail for things involving underage girls. If you keep a pistol for responding you should keep a bright flashlight as well. Flashlight in eyes work both ways..

So to recap the advice in this thread:
1. Avoid all contact with LEOs
2. Keep the lights off when investigating prowlers so they can’t see you.
3. Shine a bright light at them so they can’t see you.
I wonder if things really would have gone better for the homeowner if he had done the last two.

In this situation we need to remove the criminal element.. not the homeowner. Nothing will change while People are treated like they are above the law.
in most places you can only use deadly force if there’s an immediate threat to your life or somebody else’s; stand your ground laws are not very typical in most places in the country. some places also allow for damage to property to be considered a reason to use deadly force.
it is absolutely assault to point a firearm at somebody without justification. ( I don’t think the homeowner actually pointed his firearm the officer though.)
what I was getting at is that if the officer thought his life was in immediate danger, he can shoot the other person.
The issue in my case is that the officer had lots of options… He could’ve called for back up… He could’ve had dispatch contact the alarm company and try again. ...He was able to retreat.

I know that law-enforcement screws up, and frequently that means that the rest of us are on the receiving end.
However, at the end of the day a police officer as a person just like any other… They’re going to make mistakes.
People are tired of fatal mistakes. Make fewer of them or the public will decide that new rules are needed. And you won’t like the new rules. It might even cost some police their lives.
The difference with cops mistakes is that justice has not been applied to them the same as civilians. If a civilian shot through a window and hit the homeowner where would he be right now? In jail or out on bail. You are doing nothing more than defending a shitty cop that should be in jail for attempted murder.
There have been a some threads about this over the past few months BUT the more details that come out the more it afirms that the homeowners were murdered by the cops.
The thread by itself gets the badge bunnies riled up so they complain to frank that the natives are complaining about getting murdered. Frank said no cop bashing so dont start another thread about murdering cops please, take your shots like a man and STFU about it lest the badge bunnies start another letter writing campaign.

If they refuse to police their own then they get what’s coming to them. The writing is on the wall. Leo don’t want to be associated with this stuff but don’t mind treating everyone as they are criminal. Even leo can’t have their cake and eat it too. Has this criminal cop been apprehended yet?

But let me get something clear first, I hate double standards and motherfuckers that hide behind 'em. I hate blue falcons and I hate fucking government criminals. I respect good policemen who respect the rights of citizens and understand their place in the world, but I don't hear about them too often. I do know a few though, one or two on here I'd walk through fire for and I've ran into more good ones than bad ones since I've lived where I currently live. But it wasn't always that way.
I did security for years and this isn't how alarm calls are handled either, BTW. ONLY durress calls, and those are entered by code and are almost never false alarms. This cop fucked up and America's "injustice" system worked once again, protecting yet another motherfucker who shouldn't be carrying a firearm on the job, and only further entrenching this attitude in other shitbag cops hellbent on turning this nation into a 3rd world police state, which you gotta admit, it's heading.
Also, in case of a false alarm, all you have to do is tell the dispatcher the code or whatever and they'll call and stop the cops. They'll still show up, but turn off the lights and horn and slow down and now just to ask questions, not with their goddamn weapons drawn. That's the protocol and it's been the same for over 25 years and every state I've ever worked in.

You know when cops come to defend criminal cops it kind of lends credibility that they are all bad. If you are a good cop and support or look the other way for bad cops. Guess what. You're a bad cop.
Same goes for enforcing unconstitutional laws or finding new ways to violate the constitution like using sting rays or DUI/drug mass car searches.
