I don’t know much about the place.

I know you all are pretty vocal and opinionated.

What do you think? Redeeming town? Gun friendly state?

Wife is a software engineer, are tech jobs available?

Housing?

Live in the country now. 7 acres, pond, timber. Can a person afford that out there?

Its been years since Ive spent time there but it is about as scenic a place as you can imagine. Backs right up to the Rocky Mountains.Home of the USAF Academy and the training center for the US Olympic team. I did pass through a couple years back and it was clean and tidy. I suspect your wife would have no problem finding work either in CS or north in Denver.

I suspect, like most of the front range its going blue. If I were looking for property Id look to the S/SW, towards Pueblo and make the drive. More of a rural area with country/ranch folks.

Two plus's are the open space, and just an hour and a half south is the NRA Whittington Center, the premier place to shoot in the US, perhaps the world. Just too cold for me.

I work with a guy who left Colorado Springs last year. Dopers are over-running the place, real estate ain't that great and the local socialists are anti-gun as hell. As druggies and California scum overrun the place it is turning into a sewer, in his opinion.

We both got hired at the same time, we work in the middle of nowhere and we work with people who hate other people, so he might be biased. It's just that kind of job, I literally talk to no one, except on the phone, for an entire 12 hour shift. It is very nice and no one has their crappy feelings hurt.

There is no one else here. Everyone works alone in separate locations, some two miles apart. If there are five of us in one place, something is broke as crap or on fire. We get paid a nice premium to manage without supervision and decipher poorly written procedures in minimal time during emergencies.

If I was going to move into a bigger Colorado city it would be Colorado Springs. Big military presence there, but their politicians are squishy. If I was going to move anywhere else in Colorado it would be the western slope. I am in the slow process of leaving the most beautiful state in the nation because of the politics and all the liberal BS.

Decent place, overcrowded, overpriced (CO in general). Crazy libs and the new Gov is horrendous.

I make the best of it and have a darn good time. Wouldnt move here unless it is a huge pay jump and growth in the company an excellent chance.

I've lived on the front range of Colorado most my life and it's been going downhill over the years. I love the mountains, vast areas of public land, hunting, camping, etc. but the front range of Colorado has been going downhill over the years. Lots of traffic, bad politics, expensive real estate, high taxes, etc. etc. If you like rural living, CoSprings is not where you want to be.

During my younger years it was one of the best places in the World to live, be it the Mountains or the Plains or the Western Slope.

Now, not so much.

There has been such an influx of people that everything I held as Holy is now gone.
The influx has more than overrun the infrastructure and the trails I walked years ago, alone or with a couple of other people, are now overrun and the "Authorities" are imposing restrictions on how many people can walk those trails. "Sign up here, Sorry, the trails are full and already overrun, so make a reservation and come back later."
Our infrastructure is more than overrun be it WATER, sewer, Highways

This year we have a lot of snowpack so when run off comes a bunch of people who built their homes too close to the creek and going to wash out. Will I feel sorry for them, FUCK NO, you should have looked around for high water marks and built accordingly.
Homes have been damaged in the High country by snow sliding into or onto them and do I feel sorry for them? FUCK NO. Look around and if the vegetation points downhill, don't build there. and if you do don't cry to me that your house is now fucked up.

This is a wet year but we have more dry years than wet so where are all of these people going to get their water when dry years come?

There have been a lot of really neat people move here and I welcome them all as they add to our society and fit in, but for every good 1,-- 20 other shitbags followed you only to add to the problems we have.

Don't get me going on the HOMELESS, but I hope high runoff takes care of some of that shit.

In short, were I you I would look elsewhere as Colorado has become a Dem. Shithole and I see no way out other than Mother Nature.

Dont come to CO. Like all of the others who have never been to this state but claim to be in the know, the reality is that it's identical to Warsaw in the 30s.

Everyday, dozens of LEO agencies raid hundreds upon hundreds of houses for magazines over 15 rounds after they read some posts on gun forums or facebook, or got word from a collaborator; and many hundreds of thousands of gun owners have now become convicted felons since 2013. I see it on the news all the time, it's so common it's amazing.

Law enforcement has totally made this their highest priority. Even uttering the word "standard capacity" will get you immediately fired AND jailed. It's really bad, man. It's identical to wearing a stainless steel watch in Khmer rouge controlled Cambodia in the 70s - instant purge. All my friends, mostly registered Texas users, told me so. Even though i haven't left the basement since 2013, as i'm trying to lay low and avoid the purges everyone talks so much about.

Also, there is no such thing as a pickup truck in this state with any decals referencing gun brands. Instead, all 5 million cars are subarus and priuses with "RESIST" stickers plastered over them. They have gestapo-like thought crime checkpoints where they will stop you and demand you recite Marx's personal diary to them on command, or, they will force you to take a hit of satan-grass out of their aids-bongs.

It's terrible. Move to wyoming instead, the meth aint so bad.

As an aside, there's hardly any tech jobs here for the OP's wife. Most of the state doesn't even have high speed internet or even a cell signal for that matter, and no major fiber lines exist for any of the big data facilities to set up shop with cheap electricity, that's why they're all still in other areas like Utah and Denver in the west.

But seriously, stay out of Wyoming unless you want to be an addict, the place will drive you to the bottle and the needle because there's nothing else to do. Many job interviews end with being hired after saying "Why yes, I can pass a piss test, just give me a few weeks..." I certainly have no problem with growth from people that moved here for the jobs etc. in years passed and fit in.

At some point ALL of us have someone down the line that moved here from the East, or wherever, to make their fortunes and pioneered this State. That is how it started. All working together to form a Hard Line bastion of people who could and did form a
Conservative State.
For me it is 4 generations of Hardcore settlers. --- Ranchers and farmers and miners and those that followed that line of thought and have that line of thinking in mind. Did they or do they all get along? FUCK NO, but they held to their principals of being FREE and able to negotiate with their neighbors.

I hold NO animosity towards people that have moved here later and fit into the mindset of the original settlers. They are more than welcome. Some of you fit in there. That is how we can keep this going.

Do you like go out on the town at night? Bars etc? If you do, remember there are 15k soldiers and airman crammed into 5-6 bars every Friday and sat night too...may or may not be your kind of scene.

Don't get a house in Fountain or Pueblo. The Arty boys like to do shake and bake fire for effect missions towards the south or east ranges particularly between 2-4 am on weeknights just because why not.
