Thoughts on the Aero Precision SOLUS ?

I'm pretty happy with my Solus Hunter with the Sendero Light 6.5 Creedmoor barrel from Aero. Seems to like factory 143 ELDX right out of the box, but shoots fucking horrendous with the Berger 140 Elite Hunters... Shooting the ELDX .5 MOA with only about 25 rounds down the tube.. She's a little bit of a porker though.. I haven't weighed it but she's got some heft.

I ordered a McMillan Game Warden Edge Fill for my 20" Christensen Ridgeline 7mm-08, and it's only 26 oz. because I removed the factory FFT stock, and ended up putting a Magpul Hunter stock on it because it was light, but more vertical grip. I'm not a fan of the Magpul Hunter stocks, so I've been wanting to remove it for quite a while. That said, I plan on weighing it with my Aero Solus and the spiral-fluted 6.5CM barrel on it, mount my Vortex Viper HD 5-25x50 FFP on top, and if it's lightweight enough, I might order a 2nd one to build a Solus hunting rig.

Got my 6mm creed overstock barrel today. Only marking on it wont be visible when screwed on the action. I'll probably bead blast and spray paint it anyways.

Still on the fence about ordering a 6.5prc barrel. I don't need one but feel like I should get one just to have
got my 6.5prc barrel today (sendero w/strait flutes ).
Bore scoped+looks very clean cut..
aero is definitely using their CNC machines as the machining is marvelous, and G chamber job looks great= very even inlet to the lands, and they have got the chip business well under suit as it looks near perfect( no gene no chips that are strayed and embedded, no fuck ups of any kind.

The barrel itself = lands are nice and crisp, and even all the way down to the exit, no stray marks/bumps, chips or holes down the barrel (if there is, it’s very small and fairly inconsequential) =bore scope picks up very small deviations, I didn’t see any.

It doesn’t have the bulldozer tracks down the entire barrel like a rock Creek, not sure how they do their barrels, but it must do it a little different as I’m not sure what they used to cut the lands.. sure someone else can fill that in.

Not making any comparison to other barrels, or how it will shoot. Just reporting on what I saw.

Obviously, something can look beautiful fand be all hobbed out and off-center and all kinds of goofy things but from visual it looks really nice

Just waiting for the 6 & 6.5 barrels to show up.

It is a great time to be alive.

Well, unfortunately, I will have to redo all of my rifle load development (all rifles) including the solus. It will not take as long because I’m have almost dialed it in.

annealing brass (especially Virgin BRASS w/o tumbling or using one shot, and you have a recipe for massive bullet, seating pressure and extremely high bullet neck, interference, pressure. It was only about one second more, but it was enough to make the necks too soft for 1 firing… after resizing of 1- firing the necks are just right.

Essentially, I could’ve wrote a book on what not to do if you want a consistent precision rifle.

Awesome . My 6.5CM barrel arrived today, from the overrun sale, and it waiting for me to install it.

So who has the best deal on a solis action right now? Thinking about one since I have an extra barrel lying around

If you can wait, Black Friday is coming and that has been some of the best times for deals.

Whether it's through Aero themselves making a "pricing mistake", or one of their bigger dealers, you can usually snag an action around ~$600.

The best I've seen in the past was Arm or Ally had SOLUS actions for $570 during a black Friday event, but I doubt you'd see them at the price again. Around $600, I don't think you can't beat the Solus.

My experiences has been positive with the 2x sample I have. I've noticed they will update/make revisions to the actions over time too without mentioning it in any media. There's minor improvements between the two actions I have.

I'm still curious about Terry's experiences with these actions, since he's probably put some serious miles on them by now.

@Terry Cross curious if you have any updated info you're willing to share about the SOLUS action and your experiences? (If there is anything to share or if you have the time) Thank you!
Honestly, I don't.

I have been too stretched thin to do any shooting with the two we have on hand and I have not seen any show up in classes. You and I both know there are plenty out there so they must be doing fine under regular shooting conditions.

Fair enough! I didn't mean to call you out or anything either, just generally curious as you are a well respected individual in this field.

I've searched high and low for answers but cannot find a straight answer. I know the solus doesn't fit well in certain R700 footprint Chassis systems. Will it fit in the AICS AT-X that's cut for the R700 or not go in because of the trigger shoe? talking about this:

https://www.milehighshooting.com/ac...-x-aics-remington-700-sa-short-upper-chassis/

New to bolt guns and all I have now is a delta 5 pro but daniel defense doesn't really support that gun for shit and noone makes pre fit barrels besides proof so I am looking to ditch it and jump into a solus with the Chassis I want. Thanks.

Which trigger are you looking at using?

I really don't know, I just know that I would like to be 100% certain before I purchase the chassis
Then buy the Aero Precision Comp Chassis... It's a guaranteed fit. And pretty modular. Has built-in full length ARCA rail on the bottom of the handguard, and MLOK slots all in it. Has flush-cups for QD sling swivels, takes AR grips, has a bunch of accessories Aero sells for it, etc...

I am simply asking a question I figured someone on here would know. If it won’t fit then I’ll put it in an aero chassis. I just don’t like how the aero Chassis’ look, plain and simple. most chassis systems look like crap to me, only the RACS and the AICS series ever look “right” in my head when I see them. Didn’t mean to offend you sir.

Not offended, just stating that if you were confused about what would or wouldn't fit the Solus due to the trigger hanger system, I was not sure if you had considered the Aero Solus chassis that was made for it, since it would be a guaranteed fit.

Anything can be made to fit with the proper amount of work. If you have a gunsmith near you he can mill the chassis if there is interference with the trigger hanger.

If you really want that chassis and this action, make it work bro!

Ideally, you're pleasantly surprised and it bolts right up!

All it takes is a financial commitment

Later you can be upset you didn’t buy something you really wanted but were turned off by the price.

Found a box of 308s I loaded with 125gr TNT WC844 as a ladder/OCW test.

My 20" seemed to like them around 2975fps. I probably won't bother loading them again with that powder because of the extreme spreads but the 125 TNT looks promising for blowing up varmints. I have a box of 500 125gr Game Changers and a bunch of the Barnes 130gr TTSX on the shelf also I plan on testing. I have always like those lighter bullets in 308.

Its a Greyboe Ridgeback......Bergara gives them away I think I paid $360 from them with bottom metal on a recent sale. It weighs 11# 2oz as it sits.
How is the palmswell on it compared to a Manners or McMillan? Manners fit my hands well, McMillan has always been a bit on the "fat" side, but the newer ones look like they might have slightly trimmed them up a little bit...I'll find out tomorrow after work when my new McMillan Game Warden Edge Fill shows up. It was on big discount, and I liked the camo pattern. It was light, and already routed for M5 AICS bottom metals. HS Precision feels like I'm trying to get a grip on a wet bowling ball with no holes in it. 🤦🏼 I have big hands (big palms, but average length fingers), so the big palmswell stocks feel like I'm holding a softball, and I don't feel like I can get a good consistent grip on it from shot-to-shot, without a lot of fucking around in between each shot to get my hand comfortable on there. And I don't like that. The palmswell on that Greyboe looks to be fairly ergonomic, though.

The grip feels thin compared to the HS precision on my Rem 700 police 338L. Very comfortable though.

Foreend on this is pretty fat I'd prefer a bit thinner for a hunting rifle but that wasnt my intention for this rifle.

Almost looks like they copied the McMillan A3 style grip. I hope that's the case with my new Game Warden that's coming in tomorrow... I hope the grip is that thin.

I cut the stock back to match the ejection port on the action on the other side. About 5 minutes with a file and some touch up paint looks good enough
If you get a second, could you measure what the distance is from the front edge of the bolt handle notch to the rear of the ejection port (on the action) ?
Thanks!

Here’s a borescope of my recently purchased Aero “overrun” 6.5 cm 20” sporter weight fluted barrel. Looks good to me. Mine was black Cerakoted too.

Damn, that's a good looking barrel! I hope mine is that good inside! It appears to be that smooth from the eye, but I couldn't get any good pics with the LED light and phone camera. I don't have a BS, but I probably do need to just breakdown and buy a Teslong. Which one do you run?
