In defense of DGUNNS post I'm sure when he posted the p"""y
part of his post he did not mean the older gents or anyone who is challenged so to say. He meant for the guys who are younger and complain about getting dirty at a "Tactical" match because it has happened. He has helped many shooters here so I know he meant no disrespect to any of our older gents or pistol shooters in any way because they don't want to lay on the ground.
If someone wants to use a bench or HAS to use a bench then I will be the first to "grab an end" and move it. We're all a team here and shooting is supposed to fun like we ALWAYS have now that a few turds have been flushed.
Time will always be an issue at a range. I've seen it for years and it started when I was at boot camp during rifle quailification and training. Remember that? So time is important an dif some guys have no limit it will take..and they WILL take all the time they need..which can and we've seen it happen 20-30 minutes PER station. That simply can't happen.
All I can say is when I get to the point where I'm unable to lay on the ground for what ever reason..and I still have the urge and passion to shoot..that some younger shooter at the range will assist me in doing so. I will die in my tree stand or sitting against a tree..or with a rifle in my hand. This I know...well at least that's what I hope for anyway..lol.

Lets drag out our shooting sticks, tripods and a couple of benches and make due. From there it will evolve. When we have sniper matches then that's something different.

How do I find a partner?

I have an AR I am pretty comfortable with. Or an old 6.5x55m Mauser bolt I am playing with. I guess I can go either flavor. No fancy toys here, but I want to come play.

I think the benches are an absolutely great idea! My father inlaw has had three back surgerys and can not physically lay prone so that's one of the biggest reasons he doesn't shoot. So I'd love to take a look at one of these benches to buy if your going to be selling them. For the longest time I've been looking at the benches that DOA Tactical make but have never bit the bullet and bought one here's a link if ya wanna check them out.

I agree with Mike. On the Intimidator course there are two positions that muzzle alignment becomes the biggest issue.

Position 2-Between targets 1 and 2. Close to a 90 degree swing.
Position 4-Between targets 1 and 2. Close to a 120 degree swing.

There are many times even the prone shooters are reminded to move/align themselves at these positions. Tunnel vision comes into play when a pair of shooters have 8 minutes to engage 8 targets. Not to mention the 5 minute bonus points that many try to receive. Accidents can happen then. Nothing has happened bad,and I would like to keep it that way.

With that being said,if shooters want a bench to use,bring a bench. Use it as equipment. I don't have a problem with it as long as it is used safely and does not take much time to set up and use.

Yes we could and should have a steel match from benches at TVP. Karl and I have had them before at out annual .308 matches. We can shoot 100-1200 yards 3 shots each or a team shoot 12 tagets the less round to hit all 12? Whatever the case we can have a great steel match from the benches. Also, we can can set out as many steel targets as we want and where ever we want to make this match happen from the benches from under the "shed". We are open to ideas.
To touch on the use of benches from the short course or Intimidator postions once again I think it is not such a big deal to work out the bugs. The beautiful view from all the differnent positions at TVP would never be known or seen by most if we just shot from the shed. As long as bench shooters know what to expect and what we as a "whole" expect then we can make it happen. Sure, I see some issues here and there but I'm sure we as group of like minded folks surely can figure it out without making someone feel like they are "holding" us up.
Lets discuss a format of a match that can be held from the 22 concrete benches from under the 32'x200' covered shooting area TVP offers.
Also, surely out of all the TVP members we have here, someone has to have a couple of portable benches we could try out over a weekend or two so we can see what we need to do next to make it as comfortable and FUN for everyone to participate. Or we can have a range/work day a build a few.

tom, i appreciate the clarification....i did not intend any disprespect for older or shooters with special needs. i will go out of my way to help ALMOST anyone.

that said....i spend a fair amount of time training and shooting in this style of discipline and by that i mean tactical/sniper type matches. i have heard about everything you can think of at a match as i am sure most of you have. fact is, we have an overly lazy, undisciplined society who feels the world should accomodate them....not directed towards anyone.

if you are physically capable and want to get involved in this type of shooting not matter what your reason.....you should be shooting from field expedient positions. shooting from supported positions like shooting sticks, tripods, etc to me are acceptable as it is something you can generally carry in the field. a bench is not...

i just read someone say they just didn't want to get down on the ground....not cause they couldn't...just dont want to. they paid they're dues in the corps. yeah, join the club except i will continue to pay my dues until i cannot.

regardless, tvp is a great place to shoot and tom is a great host so i'm sure everyones needs will be accomodated.

This is "My Personal" option on the subject of benches for out on the course. <span style="font-weight: bold">I wanted</span> a mat to shoot off of so <span style="font-weight: bold">I bought it</span>, <span style="font-weight: bold">I wanted</span> a nice rifle with a nice scope so <span style="font-weight: bold">I bought it</span>. It is part of "my equipment" that I feel I need to shoot. So you can see what I think on the matter

I used my AR10 when I was there a few weeks back. 308s are allowed. Me personally I think shooting prone for the first time at TVP helped me out a lot. I found it to be very comfortable.

I would not want to carry around a bench to shoot that match. Every time I shoot a match i am trying to lighten my load for next time.
I see no need for a bench on the course. If you want some thing similar use a tripod, and a stool. I tried out the bog pod Saturday, and really liked it. I need to practice with it, but i decided to order my own for next week.

First, I don't sell benches. All the parts for my bench were bought at a Home Depot. I consider it a compliment for someone to copy my bench and I will gladly provide a parts list.
My bench is similar to the plans posted by mscott, but mine can be shot left or right handed.

I prefer to have the seat and bench separate as I think it makes a more stable platform. I easily rotate my bench on the rear leg 180 degrees when I shoot groundhogs. Although a bit awkward, I can move it a few feet with rifle, rests, ammo, and optics sitting on it. It is very awkward to carry just the bench w/legs attached in one hand while carrying something else in the other hand for more than a few feet. Since I use an ordinary folding chair for my seat, it sometimes sinks if the ground is wet/soft. But a 5 gallon bucket could just as easily be used for a seat.

Intimidator 10 match agg is basically a contest to test a shooters skill and to maintain an average HIGH score in order to earn this title. You may shoot bad one day and good the next just like everyone else in the agg match so the pressure will be on..great training aid.

The Intimidator 10 match agg. will be a great pay out to those involved. Plus it will push a shooter to train harder and wiser in what he is trying to accomplish.
Yes, you must shoot the assigned dates to qualify. We may have to adjust a date or two here and there but I hope we don't have to. The reason for the assigned dates is to keep shooters from picking the best days to shoot. This way EVERYONE is on the same playing field with conditions..rain or shine or wind.
This will be a great accomplishment for the winner and show the true skill of that marksman. I would love to see 20 shooters or more take this challenge. It's real competition at it's finest and the winner will get a great pay back, a trophy and T-shirt saying he is the man (10 match agg. winner) for 2011 with his score on the shirt and trophy.
We used to do this is 1000 yard BR and the dates were set in stone with a rain date etc. No rain dates here, we shoot regardless in this case. They (IBS) gave us and option of a 6 or 10 match agg because some folks could not make all 10. This is not the case here. You must make a commitment to this challenge to achieve this goal and earn the cash and mainly the title.
We hope to work the bugs out ASAP if there is an issue with some of the dates.

I'm sure the dates wont line up for some some shooters but since we have about 100 or more different shooters this year that's going to be shooting it at different times it's impossible to make the schedule/dates work for everyone. We set most of the dates on Sunday because we knew some of our shooters had to work on Saturday and this would help them out. Again, we have to switch a date or two on the agg because of conflict. That's why TVP takes it's time getting the schedule out. After 9 years of scheduling matches we know with all that is offered out there we must coordinate wisely or there will be issues. We try our best to accomodate our shooters needs and schedules and have even been known to switch a few to make it work for certain folks.
We will try our best to accomodate our shooters and create a full schedule for those who enjoy shooting at TVP. The shooting season goes waaayyyy to quick. It's been a long winter and I for one am ready to shoot.

One possible solution is to schedule a couple alternative dates. Either having say twelve shoots and using the top ten scores for the aggregate or if you can't fit in another two shoots stay with the ten scheduled ones and only use the top 8 scores.

The only downside would be if someone has a bad day but can make an alternate date their bad day would get wiped out. You could fix this by making the shooter decide beforehand if that particular day is going to count towards their aggregate score or not. Then it is just weather that might give someone an advantage by being able to make all of the dates.

After reviewing our schedule and our original intent we have decided to stay with the ten match agg theory. We will adjust dates but there will be only ten matches scheduled for this competition. This keeps everyone on a level playing field as discussed before. The only reason we would have a make up day would be if there was lighting/electrical storms on that match date and we would not be shooting in those conditions. If it's just rain we would still shoot.

The Head Hunter is a TVP TRADEMARK training course and match designed for one shot PRECISION hits on (bad guy) head sized targets.
Ranges will be from 300 yards to 600. Targets will be in hides, peeking over rocks and logs as well as tower guards and machine gun nests. There will be a total of 20 targets to engage. You have one shot per target. If and when you can hit every target with one shot you earn the title "Head Hunter".
This will be an elite title that few will achieve but with the proper training and skills learned it is obtainable.
The course will be designed to test and hone your skill level to become a true precision marksmen not an area shooter.
ONLY men who have and can shoot a PERFECT score will wear the TVP Head Hunter shirt and aquire the trophy soon to be released. It cannot be bought by anyone who has not earned the the elite title. And elite it will be. This will become the benchmark for extented LE sniping training and other work.
For anyone that has shot our "Intimidator" you know what an elite score is and what it takes to get it.
The head targets will be 6"x9" and will be 1/2" AR 500 steel.
They will be spring activated so even if you hit them with a .308 at 600 yards they will flip back 90 deg. and back up indicating a HIT. All targets will be 18"x40" chest area wearing a camo jacket with sleeves with the steel head attached.
This will be one of our many offerings here at TVP for 2011.

Wait till you see the layout for our sniper match...a true work of art and every snipers fantasy. Coming Memorial Day Weekend.

This will be a move along course of fire. As of now the course will have 3-5 shooting locations with 20 targets. This is a sniper/hunting training course of fire open to all. Any firearm .338 LM case and under. Moving from position to positon will be similar to the Intimidator but not the same locations. Hope this helps.

These will be .30 cal. magnum and .308 dedicated cans. I have all common thread adapters from 1/2 x28 TPI to 3/4 x28 TPI and SAKO TRG 18 x 1.
Rental rates will be posted soon. If you buy the can that day there will be no charge for the rental.
I also have .338 Jaws suppressors to demo.
