Have you read the field manual LL was referring to? I find it so ironic that he said that a week ago in an old 2013 thread that you obviously saw because you posted right after. Now you say the same thing he said word for word. Hmmmm. Yea though you and LL are just on the same wavelength I guess. Just a coincidence.
And if I wanted to watch his drawn out videos to critique them I would have done that. You seemed to have a firm handle on what he has wrong I figured you could easily state it in a sentence or two. @Lowlight. I have some more knowledge (and some elements related to marksmanship fundamentals to improve) after watching the video. I'm stumped on finding the secret.
Yes he did an the boys at HardRock have had a standing offer for the internet shooters just as long. I could give you names of Hide members, Battlerifles members and a few others from the web who run thier lips but never took up the offer. One ass wipe from west Ga was offered a door to door ride with all the trimming then came up an said he had nothing to shoot the match with. So I offered a known winning gun an ammo free of charge, all he had to do was show up! He even declined that offer. Guess we need to have portable ranges to move around the country on a moments notice. Oh wait, they have those free of charge on moms TV in the basement, don't they?

Todd used to shoot matches, back in 2003 era at Rifles Only. His resume used to list that he won an international sniper competition, that was a Tac Pro Match down in TX. Bill and Alice were from England originally that made it international, LOL he is a decent shot, no doubt there, but had a bad reputation I will not go into right now so he stopped shooting the matches soon after starting.

The secret of the video is, creative editing. While I did shoot that group, and that rifle, they were shot on two different ranges at two different times. In fact i have no clue what I used to shoot that group at 1125, don't remember, I would have to find which folder it is in to see. The shots of the rifle were done at Byers CO, which is Colorado Rifle Club, it was filmed on the high power range, no steel. The steel was at my range in Fort Morgan. Probably at least 2 years apart.
Goes to show how deceiving video can be. We can look at certain elements of a person's shooting skills and sort of tell, is it true, was it a lucky day, or does the subject in the video have any real talent? Anyone can recite from a book, whether it is an FM, TM, or Major Plaster. Why most of the videos are voice over work and not spoken word. The fact he drones on is another clue, searching for the right thing to say. Todd does this in the magpul video, he doesn't really know the answer so they hunt around hoping to recall the right answer. By taking stock footage and then reading out of a book doing the voice over work you sound smart and nobody see the truth of the matter. I did do one goof voice over video I am not sure where it is, if i find it I will post it.
In the AR community both of these guys would have been run out of town. They are far more critical of guys who have very little experience but can mimic drills and actions. For some reason the Precision Rifle Crowd covets these guys in a way the AR and Handgun world would never do. Its weird.
Give them props, for good keywording, aggressive sales tactics, and the fact they made a living off it. I could not do it which is why I stay in my lane with a lot of this stuff. I have done a ton of handgun and carbine work but you never see me sliding into their lanes just because I have taken classes from many of the best, or taught at few at Rifles Only alongside so pretty big "who's" in that world.
If it makes guys happy to watch or to pay to hang out, more power to you, but let's be honest about it. More of a cult of personality vs real world learning and experience. Graduating Sniper School was not easy, buying a book and video camera should not be considered a replacement.

There are "instructors" that have knowledge and "instructors" that can pass on knowledge. The difference lays with how they achieved that knowledge.
You can be knowledgeable by application or knowledgeable by association.
Which type you choose to take lessons from is your business but if you choose the knowledgeable by association over the knowledgeable by application then do not come into a place such as the hide and expect that to mean much.

You are correct and you did it tactfully. But after that the dogpile came on from the peanut gallery who acted like they had the same opinion all along. Now they attack him personally every chance they get. It’s the Internet tough guy know it all mentality and it just irks me for whatever reason. I think it comes from the fact, it went from a Youtube channel to hosting Seminars and charging people.
Once you take that next step and begin to charge people you are now providing a service and many feel that is misleading or dishonest. Timing wise, I think the negative posts coincided with his seminars and the cost. if you consider a 2 Day Applied Ballistics Seminar with Bryan Litz is $500 and you get a lot of his material as part of it, charging $600 to "Talk" about precision is a lot of money. My 2 day classes in AK are $500 and we shoot, granted, my 3 Day Class in CO is $1000, that is because of the markets. This however is not the same.
There are tons of Youtube personalities that make money off the videos, they will do paid appearances, which is simply a meet and greet. Moving into the world of teaching is something else. I have heard it explained, buy a copy of the Ultimate Sniper and get the same info vs pay $600 for someone to talk about what they read in the Ultimate Sniper. See where the rub lies ?

i think the way they set it up is that 1 match wont have the required shotcount to qualify, so you have to shoot a minimum of 2 matches.

If you want to take the challenge all you have to do is show up, an Clean the course, an your expenses will be refunded. All HR rules apply.
There are only two reg match's left this year July an August a September might be added, don't know. Then it all starts over in Feb 2019.

So if I’m calculating target size including small bore bullet width it’s roughly a hair better than 2 MOA? Does that sound right?

NRA rules state you have to break the line to get the point.......so lets look at 100M....call it 100 yds for all practical purposes.......bullet diameter is .22 X2 = .44
10ring = 1" + .44 = 1.44" @ 100m or a touch under 1.4 MOA from a supported prone position.....you could technically qualify for master if you had a 1.5 MOA hold, if you had no conditions.
once you factor in wind and mirage, and fliers(thanks rim fire).....you really need a sub-moa hold to reliably shoot Master scores

Until I see someone shoot in a match I am not going to have any opinion about how well or poorly they can shoot. I'm certainly not going to base it on a video.
I thought I was quite the marksman till I shot my first match. I was not humbled. I was humiliated. I got over it quickly. From there to here has been a journey. I now shoot the middle of the field in big competitions competing against some of the best marksmen on planet earth. I've shot better and improved every single match I've shot for the last two years. I drive home smiling every time. I love it. I would do nothing but this (and hunt and fish) if I had the money and time.
The whole idea of a match is to see who's best/how good you are. I feel honored to shoot along side so many talented and committed marksmen.
The only "training" or class I've taken is Jim See's two day PRS prep course. I thought it was totally worth the money, especially for someone new to tactical steel matches. There was hardly any work on shooting fundamentals (it was assumed you can shoot), but tons of practical instruction on positional shooting that I have really put to good use. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get into competing.
I would go to Litz's seminars, but that's about the only one I would do that didn't involve actually shooting. Then again, I've read all the books, so I'm not sure how worth it would be to go to the seminars...
