Tikka T1X

I was intending to do this, but it isn't necessary as the magazine well and release is attached to the bottom of the action, so an AICS stock will fit straight on, the issue is the magazine hits the trigger guard before seating. The only work around would be to remove the magazine well and have a custom made AICS sized magazine that works in the T1x, not a simple endevour I'd imagine.

I’m thinking I may run into this issue with my MPA Chassis next week. When extra magazines become available perhaps they can be modified to cut off the lower “half” and shorten the spring or perhaps the “bulge” could be removed. It would of course result in lower capacity but might be a workaround until someone comes up with a better solution.

Too bad you can’t just use AICS patterned 22 LR Vudoo MGs -

Also at some point, all that work And expense for people to do the same for Vudoo looks like a steel :)

I've looked at this quite a bit, pretty tall order for the AICS type magazine to work in the T1X due to receiver dimensions that won't allow such an interface. The other issue is, the Vudoo magazine is patent pending, which ties up the AICS outer form as it relates to rimfire use.

I got it I’m a proud vudoo owner. And it’s one of the best gun purchases I’ve ever made

What's the US street price going to be again? Around $450? I'd like to get one but not going to pay inflated price based on scarcity. Like to get one by spring to use in NRL22 matches. Have my T3x CTR stock laying here that I'll probably use for it. I want a 16" version too so when I throw my AAC Element 2 on it's not too unwieldy

470ish is to be expected

I ordered the MPA Competition Chassis for the CTR so I will find out next week if it fits and will work with the factory mag. If not then I will most likely pick up a Tikka CTR in 6.5 and put that in the chassis.

I too would like to know the distance the Eley & Lapua test facilities are using, and if it’s 14mm center to center or edge to edge. If it’s 50 meters and center to center that’s damn pathetic...

Well yes, it is 50m, because this is the distance for ISSF events and rimfire benchrest. Below you can find a test report. They do 10 shot groups. Rimfire ammo has its own technical limitations so it will not shoot as most people expect.

Reading about the prices in the US makes my eyes water. In Europe was going for 750€ (836$) - in preorders!

Yes, thank you for that info. It is all recorded for every lot they make here (I use it all the time when buying ammo):
https://www.myeley.com/lot-analyser

I find it odd that the test barrel they are using in the data sheet you attached has "100,000" rounds on it. It makes me wonder if that is true, they are probably not getting top performance out of the ammo with that kind of a round count. I still would like to know if the groups are center to center or edge to edge. I have to assume they are not edge to edge as I regularly get better than that shooting outside with a bipod on the ground with no tuner, and I am not anything special.

I have not had time to draw up the mag in CAD yet. I am envisioning a 2 piece body made from delrin or equivalent held together with screws and brass inserts....

As it stands the OEM mag assembly is rather large and is distinctly easier than a cz or savage to reload on the clock. The angle of attack on the loaded round is rather steep

Are you saying the loaded round is rather steep coming out of the magazine and into the chamber? I would think that would have a negative impact on accuracy.

I wonder if this is why I've heard several benchrest shooters mention that a lot of them are moving away from Eley to Lapua JBell?

I honestly have no idea, I don't follow benchrest shooters at all. I did many years ago, but I have lost interest in that game. From my experience the benchrest crowd if a very superstitious group and easy to influence. You see odd trends with them, if someone wins with "item X" then a LOT of shooters will immediately start using it...

Here is a pic of round in mag

I got to handle a T1X in .17 HMR over the weekend, and I'm very happy I did not cancel my .22LR model pre-order from Whittakers! I spoke with them today and they only received about 15 of the .17 HMR model. They have heard absolutely nothing about future shipments or the .22LR model. They were hopeful they could fill all existing pre-orders in 2018, but realistically I think the earliest we may see the .22LR model in the US will be late Winter to early Spring 2019.:(

Midwest. I and several others in this thread have got theirs from Scheels. I believe that EUROOPTICS got 25 out to backorders last week also in a post below, there are some in the pipeline....

I picked my .22LR and .17HMR from Scheel’s last Tuesday, but haven’t gotten to the range yet. Hoping to get some trigger time over the Thanksgiving break.

Here are some 5 shot groups at 50 yards. Please keep a few things in mind. There was a 5 MPH tail wind with gusts 8 to 10 MPH and I am not a regular rimfire shooter. Also, the trigger seems a little heavy as it's set from the factory. I haven't measured it yet. I think the gun can shoot better than the pictures reflect. I think these groups were with Lapua CenterX. For my first time out with this I'm definitely happy.

Thanks for the quick review! What scope base is that? Also, were most of the groups under at or under .5” like your 2 groups suggest (no crazy fliers like Ruger Precision Rimfire?)? Looks awesome - happy to hear it’s a good shooter.

16" or 20" barrel?
That is amazing how well it shoots

No flyers. I had some 10 shot groups around .6 or .7, in less than ideal circumstances. Another 5 shot group was .4 - I think the rifle is better than I am.

It's a 20 MOA base from Midway, https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1...1mm-dovetail-adapter-cz-452-453-455-511-matte

Kind of pricey but it fits perfectly. Scope could be lower but I'm working on getting it in an MPA chassis. Will make some posts about that later when I get time.

Those targets are absolutely impressive. If you could shoot some non shoot-and-see targets next time out and post them it would be much easier to evaluate. None the less, shooting a trigger your not comfortable with and a comb that's too low for the scope height, those groups are remarkable.

Got mine today. Typical tikka quality. Bolt runs smooth, very short throw. Adjusted trigger easily, light and crisp like my other Tikkas. No need to swap the spring.

Any ideas for lightweight rings? I plan to mount a Vortex Razor HD LH 3-15x42. Rugular DNZ Tikka mount doesn’t fit.

There also 469 plus shipping and transfer. If I wait a little my dealer will sell it for 410. He stated dealer cost was 381. He charges me 10 percent over. I don’t want it bad enough to pay 20 percent premium. Plus I am a retail manager and won’t be able to do anything till after Christmas.

There is another thread on here about rings and bases for the T1X. I think the Talley rings were mentioned. Basically look for something that works on a CZ455 and you are likely good to go.

Update on the MPA (Masterpiece Arms) Competition Chassis. I tried to make notes on the images. It's definitely not a drop in fit. I'm trying to decide if I should try and get a machine shop to modify as needed or just use the chassis for a regular Tikka CTR. I'm not sure if MPA would be interested in having me send both in so they could fit it and also gather information so they could make a T1X friendly chassis. I would think they could modify it to work with both these and the CTRs.

Additional pictures as only 10 are allowed per post. I got focused on the bolt release issue and forgot to take a picture of it mounted. The magazine holder has to be removed to mount, which I am glad I did or I would have missed the bolt release being blocked. The pin that needs to be retained could probably just be taped with some rescue tape. I'm pretty sure the factory magazine will work if I make these changes but because I can't fully seat it with the magazine housing attached it's hard to tell for sure.
