Tikka T3 Thread

Looked through a good number of pages on this thread, but not all 135... I was recently checking out Tikka's site and saw they listed the CTR as being chambered in .223 with a 20" or 24" barrel. Is this new or has this been around for a while? Checking out different sites, I can't seem to turn any up (at least in the USA). Gunbroker only lists a CTR scout in .223 that does not have a threaded barrel or oversized bolt knob.

I've wanted a CTR for quite a while and a 20" 223 would be the ticket!

Do you plan or running a suppressor? A .223 does not really need a muzzle brake, and personally I prefer the heavier barrel profile on the Varmint to the CTR. To answer you other question, I do think that the CTR is .223 is fairy new, at least in the US.

Anyone in here running a t3X superlite in 7mm?

Thinking about running one for hunting and was curious what thoughts were on it. Would most likely run the 7mm eld-x with it.

Trying to decide on a good combo hunting/long range scope to put on it in ffp as well.

Any i put is appreciated.

Yep, currently waiting on my Gunwerks 8ight and would like to use on the CTR. I’ve thought about the varmint as well, but the CTR 223 caught my eye. It wouldn’t be too much of a hassle to have a varmint barrel threaded though.

Quick questions.

1. Can anyone measure the length from the front of the grip to the trigger shoe on both the Bravo and Xray?

2. What is the minimum LOP in the T3 inlet with the Bravo and Xray?

Thanks!

Does anyone here reload 223? A friend is helping me do some load development with 77 SMK and was hoping to see what has worked for you guys. I have T3x with the 24" barrel.

Not a T3x But here is mine in a MDT LSS XL. I changed out the base to an area 419. Great little do all rifle.

Does any one know if tikka has one size firing pin between 308 bolt face and 223 bolt face, I have come to the realization that there is no left hand 223 in the US so I was contemplating getting a diff caliber and buying and a 223 bolt but cant find a complete bolt. I found a stripped bolt body and firing pin assembly but the firing pin assembly description does not specify large or small firing pin

Tikka has only one firing pin assembly.

Also into Tikka thead. Mine with a brand new stock from @ejg ?

- Tikka T3 CTR .260 rem 20”
- PSE Composites E-Tac 4 CTR mil-spec with ARCA-rail
- Falcon Optics M18+ 4-18x44
- Warne X-Skel
- Harris kind of bipod and chinese M-lok to sling stud adapter
- VTAC wide padded upgraded sling
- GrovTec Heavy Duty Push Button Swivels
- Jaki Semi Classic supressor
- Tikka OEM metallic bolt shrout
- Chinese bubble level

It started as a low budget rifle but it’s getting awesome. Falcon is obviously next thing to upgrade. I have a Spuhr SP-4601 waiting for Steiner, S&B or Kahles and Falcon will continue service at the top of my P94S where cantilever mount will suit nicely. I also have an ACI which I will install to Spuhr.

At some point I will have a lighter Ase Utra supressor, some quality bipod and maybe a Sterk bolt handle but I still like to keep my budget and try to avoid bling bling. Anyway I want to use only quality parts! It’s all for purpose not for show ?

Your lucky, your CTR came with the OG TRG magazines :)
Tikka T3X CTR magazines are, well i dont want to say it loud, but those are not good.
Nice rifle with that Ireland made stock.
How does it shoot?

It shot well before new stock and there is no reason to believe that stock would make it any worse!

It seems that soon Falcon (sold by you) will be replaced by Minox ZP5.

With new stock and scope it will be a whole new rifle and I’m looking forward to shoot it ?

I have zero issues with the ctr mags. I bent the springs and they are 100%. Have you done that? I have a Sako TRG with Sako mags and the ctr mags are exactly the same except for the black boot on bottom.

Looking at available Tikka options on 204. Only thing I can find is a compact ultralight but barrel is 20”. Is the hunter still a t3x action as it seems to have 22.5 barrel? Is the varmint no longer offered in 204? I see it in historical references but nothing recent.

I did run my 260rem CTR with the factory mags, and then bought one real TRG magazine.
I can say that the CTR mags are not even close that quality what the TRG magazines are.
Follower sping is way sofher in CTR mag and the steel quality is not the same as it is on TRG magazine.

Don’t have the super lite but have a T3 lite in 7RM currently and have had several in the past.

They have all done well with 162 eld-x Hornady factory loaded ammo (group at 230 yards below and it’s a hammer on white tail for sure).

It’s wearing a Bushnell DMR2i right now and I like it but it is a little too top heavy balance wise for my particular tastes but I’ve got a shorty medium Palma barrel on the way that should fix that.

I can’t tell a difference. Bend that CTR spring and you won’t have problems. I have shared a photo a few times that I got from another member. Let me know if you need it and I will post it again.

Maybe they have improved CTR magazines.
Lot of guys in this forum has also told, that the CTR mags dont feed reliable and have issues with them, but have not hear that lately.

So I caught the Tikka bug a bit late. This is my first. It’s a Tikka T3X CTR with a 20” barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor. Sitting in a KRG Bravo running AI mags. Mountain tactical trigger spring, 20MOA rail, and bolt shroud, Anarchy Outdoors 11° swept back titanium ball bolt handle, Leupold MK4 35mm rings, and a Leupold MK5HD 3.6-18 scope. I’ve got a Timney trigger in the mail as we speak which will be the final upgrade for it. I’ve gotta say that I’m thoroughly impressed with this rifle. It outshoots my Seekins Havak Bravo in 6.5 Creedmoor and that cost well north of twice the price. Might just be a Tikka fanboy for life now.

What height are the rings?

Anyone know if the stock bottom plastic is available for purchase? I couldn't find it on the Beretta site - plenty of mags, but not the trigger guard/mag holder piece. I'm building a 284 Shehane and have a Tikka short action that I could convert to LA... otherwise will build off of a 700LA.

Post a WTB in the PX. Somebody's bound to have what you need. I'm about to post up everything except an action but, mine is from a 6.5cm.

For the cost of factory plastic you need to look at a used one or the aftermarket metal BDM....
This is a joke

Considering a prefit barrel?

Why I want one and if I have the money then why not. But I do not reload and is it really worth it.
This is new Prime groups at 100yrds the other day out of the factory barrel. Close to 500 rounds on it so there is a lot of life left.

Will a good prefit really get to below 1/2” for factory loads? Say a PVA shouldered prefit?

I have short action metal that came with the rifle - but it doesn't take LA mags like the factory bottom plastic. That's why I was looking. Might just buy another donor rifle - if not, a few people here have offered their plastic for sale. Thanks all!

I don't think there is much to be gained in terms of accuracy by changing out the factory barrel if you're just shooting factory loads. I'm really not even sure you will gain much on handloads by upgrading the barrel...under ideal conditions. Where I think an upgraded barrel will help is on a competition gun where you need to get more rounds down range in a shorter allotted time. The factory barrel on my 6.5cm CTR is very accurate but, not very robust and it heats up fairly quickly if I start putting rounds down range at a quick pace. A heavier barrel and fluting can mitigate some of the heat issues.

The other reason for ditching the factory barrel is if you want a caliber that the factory doesn't offer. I just ordered a prefit from X-Caliber in 6mm Creedmoor for a rifle I haven't yet picked up from the FFL.

Maybe it was discussed before, but may I ask which is "the best" two-stage-trigger for the T3x CTR?

I can only find the Timney, are there more?

I have two KRG Midas Triggers, I have not tried the Timney.
If you try to run a Midas Trigger in the OEM CTR Bottom metal, there is some minor clearancing that has to done to the bottom metal.
This is the thread where I detail the clearancing process

It's a drop in for a Bravo or a MDT ACC chassis.

I have a T3 CTR magazine that is the same as the TRG22 magazine, no plastic. I have bought 2 T3x CTR magazines used and had all 3 cerakoted. I had to take them all apart for the cerakote, so I bent the springs on all 3. The only difference in the two is the plastic on the bottom and the insert below the spring.

Does anyone here reload 223? A friend is helping me do some load development with 77 SMK and was hoping to see what has worked for you guys. I have T3x with the 24" barrel.

I shoot the 75gr ELDM out of a factory 1-8 varmint that I had threaded. I am using H4895 in NAMMO brass and the CCI450 primers. I am using AICS magazines so I can get to .020 off the lands. COAL is 2.49" and you can't do that with the factory magazines. Haven't tried ans 77gr SMK in my Tikka, but they shoot great out of my 1-8 AR in the IMI Razorcore loading.

I tried Varget too, but got better velocity with H4895. Look at Hodgdon's load data for a starting point. I ended up above their max for both powders, but I load longer OAL and I worked up to it.

The 75gr ELDM has a better BC than the 77gr SMK

Has anyone installed a proof prefit onto their t3x? Do you really just torque it down your g2g? I can't find any info on installing Tikka barrels
My barrel should arrive today and I will try it out. In concept, yes, it should work so long as headspace is correct. and no relief cut was made on the action. If any facing is done on the action, the prefits will not work and have to go custom. Just keep than in mind. Mine is a .308 that I'm replacing my CTR stock barrel with 3000 rounds through it.
Removing the stock barrel can be tricky, and was expecting all sorts of things to go wrong (i'm not a gunsmith) but it worked out fine.
I used a Wheeler #1 and a barrel vise made by a coworker. 3 hits with a deadblow hammer is all it took to break it loose. It went with a loud pop. No heat, no extra force, zero damage. I'll update once I Cerakote my action and barrel shiny parts. Should be done this weekend.
I also had LRI flute my bolt body and it came out great.

I know, i took my CTR magazine in to a pieces too.
Replaced that rivet with 3mm screw, made a threading to the magazine.

I had TRG magazine on my Berseks GRS stock.
That was the first one, with T3 inlet.
I did the inlet for CTR bottom metal by my seld with dremel.
