Tikka T3 Thread

This actually is the only can I own and use it on everything, so can't compare it to others, but I love it so far. Lightweight, direct thread, good price, it's never let me down yet.

Finally got some decent data on my new match rifle. 22" 6.5 Creed, I was wanting to run Prime ammo only but was never satisfied with group sizes:

So decided to try Hornady Match 140 ELDMs before hand loading:

I have seen this several times that the Tikka’s either love or hate the Prime 130’s and can’t figure it out. How many rounds do you have through the barrel? I made the switch from Hornady 140 ELDMs to Prime 130’s around 1k and it has been a solid 0.5moa shooter.

Edit: I see it is a non-factory barrel as it is 22”, but still interested to know the round count on the barrel.

I have 220rds on the barrel as of yesterday. Barrel is a Proof Heavy Palma 1:8 chambered by SAC. I really wanted it to like Prime, but I've also never owned a rifle that liked Hornady ammo as well as this one. Seen this also with factory Tikkas, of the 4 I've shot, 3 loved Prime and one did not.

I'm out of country for a few more weeks so I haven't got to play with mine yet but Tikkas are all built on the same action length, just with a different bolt stop that places the ledge further forward or back in the raceway to limit bolt travel. Some other members mentioned that the SA T3 has the shortest bolt stop and would keep the bolt from hitting the cheekpiece. The CTR is supposed to have a longer stop and the LA an even longer one. I was asking to see if perhaps the SA non-CTR Tikka didn't have this issue since another member posted that in post #362 of this thread:

http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/new-bling-from-krg.6562935/page-8
Ok, yeah mine's a short action.

Alright fellas - in all seriousness - what are the flaws of the Tikka T3 CTR? I felt a Defiance Deviant a few weeks ago and honestly in feel it wasn’t light years ahead of the Tikka IF AT ALL. Thanks

I had a ctr for a very short period back in the spring of 2017. Sold it to another member on here. I did not put many rounds down the barrel.

I thought I wanted to save my money and buy a custom action and barrel etc., but after handling a few more Tikkas tonight at the LGS I'm thinking "what for?"

What is it going to get me over the Tikka?

Is that a factory barrel and if I may ask, what loads are you using? I just can't seem to break the trend of floating around 1 moa with Hornady 178gr HPBTs for my T3 CTR. I caved and bought some 175gr TMKs to change things up. Ran a quick (was cold out) OCW test today from 42.5 - 44.9gr of Varget in Lapua brass with 210M primers. Seems to show more promise but again, nothing to knock my socks off. Almost at the point of pushing the CTR to bush whacking duties and getting a new T3x CTR or Varmint to run in my ESS chassis.

Diamonds are about 1/2" x 1/2" shot at 100M/110yds. Feeling I might have to redo the test on a warmer day. Hard to see any solid trends.

Thinking more about this, I think I am going to refinish the action and barrel on mine in OD Alumahyde II. I wanted the blued finish but got stainless because it was in stock; I don't think silver will go all that well with a black stock and brown scope but olive and black is a good combo IMHO. Anyone used Alumahyde II?

Factory varmint barrel. These groups are 39.5, 40.0 and 40.5 gr of VV N140. Lapua brass and Fed LR primers.

Hello all, new to the Hide and new to Tikka. I just picked up a T3X CTR in .308 and I'm very glad to have found this resource. My plan is just to shoot the hell out of it first, but have been eyeing replacement stocks/chassis. Can anyone comment on the lock up of the folder on the McRees G10? Also, @260284 I am in the Wichita area as well and am interested on how your transaction with GGS went. I am cautious of purchasing from vendors outside of the US, but have only read good things about them so far.

It took 6-8 weeks from the time I ordered it. I think I paid them by PayPal, but I will check on that. They were easy to deal with, all of that was done by e-mail. Not a whole lot lost in translation.

I have just bought a Bravo and instantly found the cheek piece disappointing. I was unaware of the issues prior to buying it. I can live with having to remove it to take the bolt out, but at the height I need it, it fouls the bolt just as you've described. I could Dremel it out but reckon I shouldn't have to. A major design fault that should have never left the production line in my opinion. I also find the pistol grip a bit short and have my little finger hanging free.

I shot with a couple of guys that had 700s in Bravos. The cheek piece is somewhat flimsy, but overall the stock has a lot of features for the $$.

The G10 lock up is solid and I like the design. No shimmy or shake. Only possible negative that quite a few folders share is that it does not lock or hold when folded. I don't mind that much but some do.

I use the G10 chassis and lock up is solid. I really like the rigidity it provides.

Here is my 27" Shilen Select Match 260. Bolt fluted by LRI. Bittersweet for me, I need to part it out and sell it to fund my Nucleus build. It was solid for the 60 total rounds I ran through it. It seemed to like Prime well enough avaveraging .55-.65 MOA,best being .27 MOA.
If anyone is interested in the barreled action, it's for sale in the firearms parts exchange.

Anyone know the following information for a Tikka T3X CTR in 6.5CM? Contour # or Name and Shank Length? I assume it is Tikka's Varmint heavy contour. I am asking because I want to get in on the Manners group buy. What are most of yall going with who have had their Tikka rebarreled?

I just ordered a PRS1TK and we went with a Proof Sendero Medium.

At least that’s how they have it listed on my build sheet.

My goal is to shoot out the stock barrel in a year and put a new barrel on it, possibly carbon.

I ahve been told the CTR barrel is similar to light palma contour.

I don't know the exact contours but the Varmint has a heavier profile than the CTR

It's like a Light Palma contour.

Finally got around to taking some decent pics. Figured I should contribute and keep us ahead of the RPR thread...

Thus far I've only done a few things to improve the performance of the factory configuration. No complaints while I save up for a chassis.
-Added the adjustable cheek riser
-Shaved some material out of the barrel channel so it it now fully free floating. (This actually did shrink my groups a bit)
-Mountain Tactical 20MOA rail
-Seekins High Rings (I thought these would be too high but they ended up perfect with the Vortex defender caps)
-SAS TOMB brake and Suppressor
-DMR2-i optic

-Im considering a Sterk (or similar) swept handle but I'd like to try one first. Im acually pretty happy with the factory bolt handle and knob.

sorry for necropost but what rifle is this? what cheek riser?..

It's much easier to find rings that mount to a pic rail, instead of dovetails. I personally feel it's more secure to mount to a rail. And like mentioned above, you get more elevation with a rail. But Sphur mounts can mount directly to the dovetail so that's a very good, but very expensive route to go as well.

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

are Spuhrs the only mounts that can direct to dovetail, or can any pic mount also do this?..

Near Manufacturing also taylor mounts for the Tikka T3 in their Alphamount (T3 Dovetail) and Alphahunter (screw on aka pic rail style). Exy again but very light. Not sure how the recoil lug goes with (or without) them tho.
