Tikka T3 Thread

Man it would be great if Tikka would come out with a 24” ctr in 6.5 prc. Would save me so much money vs having a builder do a barrleled action hahaha.

Any input on whether the ctr mags would work with 6.5 prc factory ammo? Haven’t had any in hand to measure but from what I’ve read it will be very very close.

I have a Tikka Tac a1 and a T3 receiver. I was planning to install a PVA barrel on T3 receiver and put it in the Tac a1 chassis, and then move the CTR barreled action to a manners as a hunting rig. Just realized how tall the picatiney base of Tac a1 is. How difficult is it to remove those screws, I’ve heard bad stories on here.

If they are mounted like the CTR you'll have to heat them.
Get them good and hot and make sure you have a good tight fitting torx bit with a bit driver handle.
My screws was fairly easy to remove once I put the heat to them.
This is where the fun begins prying off the rail.
Keep the heat flowing .....I used a good heavy duty scraper type razor blade to get it started then a steel caulking spatula to get it the rest of the way.
The clean up was the worst and most time consuming of the whole job.
3m pads, acetone and plenty of elbow grease.......

Thanks for sharing your experience. I take it these are glue on with epoxy? Is reasonable to expect that I might be able to move this rail to T3 action? Are T3 and T3x Ctr drilled the same? Beginning to rethink this project...

Yes they are glued on with some kind of translucent looking goop that's tuff to get off.

My T3x CTR has five screws 3 at the back and 2 up front and two very small recoil pins that are removable. The large recoil lug was not used on the x version even though the receiver still has the large lug hole the bottom of the CTR rail is not recessed for the large lug.

My T3 lite has 4 screws and a large recoil lug.
Most aftermarket rails are drilled for the four hole pattern and some have the large recoil lug machined in so you just leave out one of the rear screws when you use one of them on the X ctr.
If you use the ctr x rail on a standard t3 you'll lose the recoil lugs if that matters.
Some say it makes no difference but I use rails with machined in lugs.

somehow this seems backwards to me. I would put the T3 in the Manners to use as a hunting rifle and upgrade the chassis rifle with new barrel. the T3 has a smaller ejection port and plastic bolt shroud (unless you've replaced it), which probably wouldn't matter much, but I'd want all the improvements on the chassis gun...

I saw a CTR that was re-barreled to 6.5 SAUM and they used the CTR magazines with some modifiaction. It held 5 or 6 rounds.

Mourning,
I follow this Tikka thread a lot, good stuff. These stock questions and answers are always good for the thinking cap. I have moved to the TX3 COMPACT in 22-250 for my varmint rifle. CTR will be my next purchase this week. My brothers CTR in 308 shoots great. I want a different stock for my present 20 inch compact rifle. Any suggestions?? I have looked at McMillian, just do not have a clue as to which stock. ?? I hope I am in the right place to ask this question...CHARLIE112

My understanding is that you order whichever Tikka T3 stock that has the bottom metal inlet you want. For example, I wanted to use the ctr mags, so I ordered an A5 adjustable with the ctr inlet. If you want one compatible with the mags that come with the T3 “lite” models, my understanding is that you order one that is compatible with the “Factory plastic” in the “bottom metal” drop down box when ordering like this one: https://mcmillanusa.com/product/game-hunter-tikka-t3-t3x/

Edit: if you’re asking about which stock to get, that’s so subjective depending on personal preference but I think that game hunter looks great for a long range hunting build as long as you don’t mind the weight.

What says the Hide regarding CTR/TRG mags vs. AICS mags? OAL is identical without the AICS binder plate. Already have 3 CTR mags, and they run fantastic, but am wondering if I should make the switch to AICS with the Manners DBMTK mini chassis, or stick with the CTR mags/bottom metal and get the CTRTK mini chassis. I suppose with the latter, I could always change to AICS later with Atlasworxs/CDI bottom metal. Less components with the DBMTK since the bottom metal is part of the chassis. Analysis paralysis... help please.

What chassis/stock options are out there that used the factory CTR magazines? I have couple of CTR mags and they feed like butter but I am wanting a different stock or chassis but don't want to switch over to another magazine platform.

Thanks.

I put my T3x in one of these and it fit like a glove.
They mention you might have to trim the ejection cut on the stock for the T3x but mine did not need anything done to it.

Well, as mentioned above, there is the new Manners tikka stock with mini chassis that takes CTR mags. Then there is a chassis by McRees, called the G10 that takes the CTR mags. There are probably other options, but I just don't know about them.

Cadex and McCree are the two chassis I know about that have CTR/TRG mag versions. B&C, Manners and McMillan all have CTR inlets. EuroOptic and a few other stock CTR drop-in stocks.

German Gun Stock has their models with the mini chassis built in and they come set up for the CTR bottom metal and magazines.

Guys, I had another crazy idea and would appreciate any and all feedback.

Here’s what I’m thinking, I’ve got a t3x ctr in 6.5 creedmoor and a t3 hunter in 7mmRM. So, would a competent gunsmith be able to use the 7mmRM T3 lite action and put it in a stock inletted for ctr bottom metal like a manners, McMillan, b&c, etc... and get the t3 lite 7mmRM action all set up in 6.5 creedmoor using the barrel and bolt from the 6.5 creedmoor ctr that I have?

My understanding is some modifications would have to be made to the t3 lite action to accept the ctr bottom metal and the ctr specific bolt stop would need to be installed and I would want a gunsmith to make sure it all head-spaces properly.

My hope is that This would allow me to use the magnum bolt with the ctr bolt stop on the ctr action/ bottom metal/ mags that I gave and have a 6.5 prc barrel installed.

Does anyone see any problems with this?

Tikka T3X Ctr in a manners T5A with 26" Hawk Hill barrel, CDI bottom metal, Vortex Razor Gen II in Mrad, Yo Dave trigger spring, Accu Tac bipod, and Rugged Razor Suppressor. These Tikkas shoot lights out in factory form but with a little gun mechanic love they are even better.

Nice gun, those hawk hills are shooters! Mine is nearly telepathic.

So, if you haven’t seen already, KRG launched an Enclosed Forend for W3, X-Ray and Bravo. Only problem is they, for some unexplainable reason (to me anyway), decided to only do it for that old dinosaur the R700 first.

https://kineticresearchgroup.com/product/enclosed-forend-tube

But they say if there is enough interest that they will do it for the T3 in time, so I would suggest that any of you T3 owners interested in it send them an email expressing your interest so we can get them to wake up to the error of their ways ASAP.

@Massoud from KRG said in the KRG Bravo thread that the enclosed forend for the Tikka is already in production. Moments later I was ordering my Bravo chassis.
-We are proceeding with the Enclosed Forend (wraparound like an AR style) for the T3 inlets (will fit Bravo, X-ray, and W-3). Estimate 6 weeks on availability.

Has anyone,( after installing new bottom metal and a new magazine), experienced and reduction of smoothness in the cycling/feeding of your action?? My factory T3x in 270 win is by far the most smoothest action I have ever seen. The idea of necessity of getting a completely different bottom metal and magazine is keeping me awake at night. I ordered my first custom stock, a MCS-EH1T and I am trying to cover all of my bases in this regard. Thx!

I just purchased a 20” Tikka T3X CTR in .308. I want to use this rifle as a training tool to learn how to shoot out to 800-1000 yards. I have a Surefire Genesis suppressor inbound for the set up.

Regardless, I was eyeballing a few stocks. McMillan has a carbon fiber stock called the “Game Scout” https://mcmillanusa.com/product/adjustable-game-scout-t3-ctr/ .

I was curious if anyone here had experience with this stock. My idea would be to put a 4-16x scope on top (probably Nightforce), and keep the overall set up light weight. I would prefer to use factory magazines and keep the factory components (only do a stock change). I would have purchased the Tac 3A1 model had I wanted something heavier.
