Need to copy your taping of the lens caps, Vortex Defenders right? Find they slip and wobble alot, especially the rear.
Right, but it's the best weight savings without giving up to much with the stock, bottom metal etc.
I like them a lot. In the pic above with the 4 rifles 2 are MDTs (skinny barrel is a 300 WSM T3X lite in an MDT LSS). Carbon barrel is an MDT LSS-XL Gen 2 long action so I can load the 7 WSM to nearly 3.2" COAL
The end two are XLR elements both 6.5 CTRs with 24" barrels. Big fan of the folders especially for backpacking. Will load a pic of my wife's 20" CTR 6.5 CM with a folder on it. We both shared the rifle on our annual kodiak deer hunt this fall. (BTW 147s out of a 20" barrel at 2720 fps work just fine

Yeah its cheap insurance for sure need to get "tactical matte" electrical tape I guess to be less obvious.
The 4 rifles is the 4 my buddy's and I used on our hunting trip. 2 were mine and 2 were my buddy's. My other two Tikka chassis rifle (wife's 20" CTR and the 22-250 T3 Lite) weren't pictured.
Rifles from left to right (closest to far away):
Carbon barrel, 7 WSM, Vortex AMG, MDT LSS-XL chassis and XLR Tactical buttstock, new style MDT folder on buttstock (Used it on a moose at 150 and caribou at 490 2 weeks ago).
300 WSM T3X Lite, Bushnell DMR 2 (though I am trying to convince him to go back to the LRHS 4.5-18X44 for that rifle as its was just over 10 pounds with a folder on it when it had the LRHS on it.), MDT LSS chassis, XLR Tac Lite buttstock, XLR folder. Used it on a dall sheep at 810 and a moose at 330 2 weeks ago and 2 caribou (one at 610 and the other at 210) last week.
last two are clones with only real difference is one has a folder and Bushnell DMR 2 on it in the pic (swapped to a NF 4-16 F1 right before we went on the hunt and right after I took the pic. The other doesn't have a folder and has a LRHS 4.5-18X44 on it. On of them killed a grizzly at 550 last week.
Agreed, when I shoot the barrel out of my 24" CTR in 6.5 it will be getting a 18"-20" carbon barrel for that reason. Around 800 or so in most with handloads and 143s at 2900 fps so likely half way to that carbon barrel.

My Tikka T3 Tactical. Running a Vortex PST Gen 1 4-16x50 in a Spuhr 3001, Harris 9-13" and Ase Ultra muzzle break. The last three pictures are from last year when I was hunting deers and ran into a moose cow that I didn't have a ticket for 37 meters away, stood still watching me for 15 min or so.

I tried some 168 Fed GMM today. Shot one group. Right at 3/4 MOA. Then it started raining so hard I couldn’t see my target. So I guess that’s good enough to say it’s shot 3/4 MOA every time I’ve shot FGMM.
The original T3 mag/plastic floorplate is very light compared to others.

Sorry, I should have been clearer in my comments. I’m also looking for a replacement magazine, preferably metal. Thanks for the links though.
I see that mountain tactical has billet mags for the long action. Has anyone had experience with these?
The other option could be to drop in a LA DBM and run the 3 round accurate-mag 300WM magazine as a work around. Would still be hanging out of the stock slightly.

Switching from ctr to atlasworx + md tac saves 2 ounces.
Atlasworx+ AI adds 5 ounces to ctr.
Take a dump before you go and you'd save more weight.

This is a fantastic graphic. Thanks for putting this together. Confirmed what I thought - the T3 pieces are a decent amount lighter than the CTR pieces. I would guess the CTR stock is slightly heavier as well.
CTR barreled action into a T3 stock, using the T3 bottom metal might save 3/4 of a pound. Maybe a little more.
Im pretty happy of the cocnlusion in this color change operation.
I had day off, so i took some photos in the nature that has awesome colors now in fall, and tryed to add the rifles in the picture too

I don't know it's a bunch of crap if you ask me I loved the pmags in my other rifle before I sold it
They dont work with any tikkas without extensive filing of the feed lips to the point of the lips breaking, if at all IIRC. There was some discussion earlier in this thread awhile ago (maybe 20 pages or more) but cant find it.
Are you taking about Magpul AICS mags or Magpul Pmags because there is a huge difference between the two. Pmags are meant for AR15/AR10 style rifles and can never work with Tikka's, let alone any other bolt action on the marker aside from Mossberg MVP, the newer Ruger American offering or the nasty Ruger Precision Rifle. Magpul AICS mags can only work with the Tikka action if you remove enough material on the feed lips to get them to seat far enough up for the bolt to reach the round.

Timney makes one, i had their 2 stage calvin elite on my 700 and it was great. But as nice as 2 stage is, the Tikka stock trigger is really good.

Great looking pair of rifles, congrats!
I am very interested in picking up a Tikka CTR in 223 when/if they come out next year and I must ask:
How would you compare and contrast the two stocks? Bravo/MDT ESS? is either better for use in a particular application, (hunting, table top shooting, prone etc) and do you prefer one over the other?
I am 6'2" with a longish neck, maybe one would be the better fit and looking for clues.
Appreciate it and I would welcome others to share their thoughts on either chassis as well.
Depend what you want and what you shoot?
MDT ESS is full alloy chassis, KRG Bravo has only alloy backbone, it is 3lbs lighter.
ESS has more adjustment in your fingers, Bravo does not.
If you like to shoot more AR style rifles, ESS is your choice, but if you are more familiar traditional bolt action guy, Bravo is better.
ESS is more versatile straight out of the package, but Bravo ain´t bad, and you are able to get folding stock for it later on, where has all the goodies, if you want to upgrade it.
Wont go wrong neither you ever choose.
I like them both, and when i got some more cash, i have a vision to get this folder, or fixed, i am not that keen on the folder, even though it is handy.

Just a solid low recoil plinking around rifle from a stable position such as tabletop. Maybe an occasional use in the field from a stand or sitting position.

I got them working in my LSS without much trouble. Most of my trimming was to the shoulder, where the wall transitions to the feed lips, adding a chamfer. I did have to take off a bit of the feed lips, mostly where they're thickest, but doesn't seem to be any issue, at least not yet.
Krg specifically states the magpul aics mags won't work on their Bravo. I wonder why that ks

My knowledge is partly based off reading this entire thread. Dont own a tikka yet.
I spent time looking seriously looking at the T3x CTR and a Tac A1 to purchase around Christmas. I didn’t care much for the chassis on the Tac, so I’d prefer the CTR with the intention of upgrading the stock or putting it in a different chassis a little later.

Some of the more seasoned members may chime in here, but from my experience (roughly a year with my ctr) look out for really good accuracy with factory ammo and one of the smoothest factory actions available. But really, you can't go wrong with a Tikka. From what I've seen lurking around here, most people only change the stock to get a more adjustable stock option as the accuracy is there even with the plastic stock. Again, i'm somewhat new to the Tikka platform, so i'll let smarter people tell you about any issues they've run into.
KRG Bravo chassis stock is generally known for being very comfortable. I have one of Greg's Bugnut barrel setups in .260. My only mistake was selecting a Bartlien in Marksman contour. It literally is a hair too big in diameter and touches my TRG 22 bipod (under weight of the gun, it touches the barrel enough to just leave a mark). If you don't want to use a TRG 22 bipod, this isn't an issue. Accuracy has been excellent with that barrel, factory Tikka barrel on my CTR was on the slow side. While many like the factory Tikka trigger, I'm waiting for KRG to release their 2 stage (not a fan of single stage triggers as a general rule).
KRG is set to release their version soon. I hear it is based on the pre 2013 Sako TRG trigger (which should be the cats meow). I anxiously await for the release.
