Quite impressed with the rifle so far. Did some load development after putting on the brake last week and I found a good place to start narrowing down my load (41.5 gr seems to be the sweet spot but I saw similar results up to 42.5). Velocity is about on par with what I'm expecting with the shorter barrel. 42.5 yields me about 100 fps more but a higher ES and SD. Would love to see how far I can shoot this thing.

Mods are a B&C stock, Timney trigger 1.5#, Surefire brake, Vortex Razor HD EBR-2B 10 MRAD, Seekins base and rings.
For the hunting season, the Harris BRM-S comes off and a Montana Sling is added. It is then fed with Barnes 180 gr TTSX.

Nice set up you have there. How is the muzzle blast with the SF brake? If you could comment on how much you feel the blast (if at all), how much bystanders feel it, and if it kicks up much dust. Thanks.

Thank you.

The blast is pretty significant, honestly. Behind the gun, nothing. But to the side, my friend said he felt it for sure. It does not kick up any more dust than I would normally expect, my entire load development consisted of shooting in the prone with no problems whatsoever.

The brake is a much better improvement when compared to shooting without one, though. I would recommend it.

I've become a big fan of really short 308 barrels. When I saw the Rem 700 AAC-SD, I had to have it.....dropped it into a Manners stock with mini chassis, fit a Timney trigger, mounted up a spare NF F1 and thought all would be good. Well, the rifle never grouped better then 1.5MOA, with most groups well over 2.0MOA. The problem lies somewhere with excessive pressure.....no matter what load I use, including FGMM, I get excessive pressure signs. I've purposely loaded 175 SMK waaaaay low, and still get stiff bolt lift, ejector marks, flat/cratered primers, and loads of brass on the breechface.

The rifle is now at my gunsmith to pull the barrel and re-chamber. We will find the problem(s).

Otherwise, I think the rifle is a great package, and I hope that I have a lemmon. I would like to be able to recommend this model to friends.
