Rifle Scopes Tract Toric 30mm UHD 4-20 ffp

Definitely looks like a decent offering for the price with some good features. Looking at the specs it mentions an elevation adjustment of only 20 mils which seems pretty low but with a 20 MOA base you should still be okay. Design/aesthetics look clean and attractive, but I wish they had some reticle options!
I’m curious about this too. Looks similar to the LOW produced Weaver 4-20 Tactical.
I have a set of their binoculars and they seem great so far. Outstanding customer service and Jon is awesome. My biggest concern in longevity of the company.
I was thinking of buying their 1-8 and called twice, the last time leaving a message, I never heard back - just saying.

I used their 24 hour online chat help on a Sunday evening, half expecting nothing, half expecting an Indian call center that doesn't know much except a script. Instead one of the founders answered my questions right away.

Tract sent me a scope to make OEM throw levers. The one I received was a hunting oriented scope, had nice glass, the turrets under the caps were surprisingly good for the little low profile things they were. Reticle was...a hunting reticle. Some form of BDC type thing if I recall.

I received the optic and the past few days I've been able to look through it (unmounted) and compare to the PST II 3-15x44. Mind you, I live in Western PA and the weather has been overcast the past few days. My experience with optics have been red dots (Aimpoint) and LPVO (Kahles, Steiner, PST). I recently got into higher mag scopes when I decided to build a 6.5 CM gasser. Anyways, my (brief) initial impression:
Pros:
-Great overall quality out of the box
-Turrets very positive and better then the PST II
-Smooth parallax adjustment that appears to be spot on
-Illumination knob smooth with positive clicks. Off position between settings
-Power ring smooth with good resistance, doesn't require a throw lever IMO
-Great matte grey finish (I still prefer a matte black finish)
-Good eye relief
-Fairly compact
-Schott glass and made in Japan
-Simple and easy to use reticle. I'm not a fan of Christmas tree reticles. That being said, I like the open center of the PST II better
-Glass clear edge to edge. Images sharper then PST II and better eye relief. Also seems to control CA slightly better then the PST II
Cons:
-When turrets locked down, there is some slight play in them. If you're OCD about that, it'll drive you crazy
-Turrets larger then I'd prefer. PST has the perfect sized turrets IMO
-Illumination is brighter then PST II, but it's not Kahles or Steiner bright
-FOV is decent, but the PST II has a greater FOV. When I compare the two scopes on the same mag, it appears the PST is zoomed in 1-2x more then the Tract (can someone explain that to me?)
-30mm tube. Wish it was a 34mm tube
-Heavy (34oz) for a 30 mm tube
-Exit pupil on 20x is small so it's almost unusable (same for PST II on 15x)
I paid almost exactly $200 more for the Tract compared to the PST II (MSRP around same price but I got a better military discount with the Vortex). Is it worth the extra $200 (compared to PST II), IMO yes it is. You get locking turrets with better tactile clicks, better illuminated reticle, greater quality of glass, greater eye relief, and more magnification. If Tract could offer this scope in a 34mm tube with a 56mm objective around the same weight it would be the perfect optic for my purpose (non competition target shooting out to 600 yds, occasional prairie dog slayer).
We have one on the way.
I like the fact they do all the customs cost in the shipping and that it comes from the factory.

No tree ret, no deal. Being ex-Nikon employees, I'd like to think they would avoid making the same mistakes of not offering compelling reticles...
A lot of folks don't WANT tree style reticles.
One of my all time favorites is the MP-8.
Yeah that's the first thing I look at in a new optic. It immediately kills my interest when I don't see a tree. Can't imagine a reason people wouldn't want it.
Here is my review of the Tract I purchased a few months back. Ive seen the new 30mm scope first hand. Excellent glass just like their other models. For the price its a much better optic then the PST. Maybe down the road ill get one.

I bought a Toric to use on my PRS rifle last spring. I liked it so much I purchased another immediately after. I honestly can’t compare it to other scopes in its price range. I would say it is more on par with scopes in the $2000-2500 range. I have Razor and a Sig Tango6 and the glass is as good as those optics to my eyes anyway. I also really like the turrets a lot. The only drawbacks I see with it are the 30mm tube limits elevation and the lack of reticle choices. I would guess the owners at Tract are addressing that though and will probably release a new flagship optic with the features the Toric is lacking. At the price point though I don’t think there is a better optic on the market.
I don't know, Athlon has a strong line up. From the reviews they have been getting on the conus btr, ares btr, ares etr, midas tac, they seem very well put together even though all but the cronus is china made but according to a guy on youtube that some don't like (rex reviews) he contacted Athlon and found out some very interesting details on his last initial review which was the midas tac, he is also reviewing the conus btr and ares etr. In reviews the tracking has been very very good, reticles and illumination very functional/effective and spot on, the same stainless steel turret mechanism is in the models specified, (although not sure about the ares btr). All at a very good price point and weight, the cronus btr is less weight with a 34mm tube than the tract, I was going to buy the tract but the it just didn't tickle my fancy for what options and weight. I'm wanting to buy a few scopes yet and two for sure will be the midas tac unless the ares btr gets a reticle like the midas tac or conus btr.

Ive tested a few Athlon's. The cheap scopes are a good deal for the money. Im not overly impressed with the BTR 1-6 or 4-29. Its not in the same league as Tract.
The Tract Toric is a LOW optic and based on what I saw the Toric is a nicer optic than the Aries Etr. The Aries ETR I handled was a very nice optic especially considering it is Made in China. It looks like they are really starting to figure optics out over there. That being said the Toric is nicer. I wouldn’t compare it to the Cronos because the Toric is significantly less money especially when they run their 10% off sales. I would say the Toric is on Par with the Cronus. I like the turrets on the Toric better but prefer the reticle on the Cronos. Athlon makes some fantastic optics that perform well above their price point. I just bought two Midas Tacs for Doug at Camera Land but at the $1000-1100 price range I haven’t handled anything that compared to the Toric.
Ya, like I said the tract I'm sure is great but the pop up turrets and the weight was the down fall for me....the cronus is bad enough but I got a great deal on a brand new conus btr. Just curious what was nicer about the toric vs the aries etr?
I'm a big fan of the Cronus BTR.
That said, the Tract Toric HD and Athlon Cronus BTR are both LOW manufactured optics (Tract with Schott glass, Athlon with LOW glass). The Cronus does have a 34mm tube and more elevation travel, but MAP on that scope is $1799, compared to the $1150 Tract is charging for a Toric HD. That's a $650 savings: the Toric HD is 36% cheaper than the Cronus (or the Cronus is 1.5 x the price of the Toric HD). And yes there are occasionally some dealers who may be selling the Athlon product below MAP (at risk of losing their dealer account), or the option to buy a Cronus on the used market.
Still, the Toric is retailing for less than the wholesale dealer cost of the Cronus BTR. The only thing really lacking in the Tract optic is a tree-type hold over reticle, otherwise it is comparable to optics twice it's price in terms of glass and overall build quality.
Not knocking Athon, they have really done a great job with the reticles in their most recent FFP tactical scopes, their customer service is good, and they seem to strive to produce a quality product. But, I think it's important to realize the difference in price, and thus value, between the Cronus and Toric HD, two scopes that are otherwise pretty comparable in terms of quality and features.
Very true, the price point is very attractive for the quality of the tract. Tract does not hide the fact that it is also a direct to dealer scope manufacture either, so there's your great price! Wish more were like that. Hell I haven't even gotten to try my Cronus out on a rifle yet, its setting in the closet waiting for me to build it a rifle lol.
I have pretty good familiarity with Cronus, Ares ETR and Ares BTR and like all three, albeit for different reasons. Athlon is doing a lot of things right right now and growing quickly.
Comparing Toric 4-20x50 to Cronus 4.5-29x56 is a little bit of an apples to oranges comparison because both the magnification ranges and objective diameters are substantially different.
Cronus has better FOV at equivalent magnification, more adjustment range, 6x erector (vs 5x erector in the Toric), notably higher magnification on the top end and a larger objective lens.
Both seem quite good optically, but I have not done a thorough test of the Toric, largely because I really prefer scopes of this type to have a tree reticle. I am keeping tabs on what Tract does next, but if they release a tree reticle, I will do a thorough workup.
Until then, if you are asking for a recommendation, I have enough mileage with Cronus to be comfortable recommending it, but do not have enough hands on time with the Toric 30mm to form any strong opinions one way or the other. It seemed like a very decent scope last time I looked at it, but in need of a better reticle.

Keeps us up to date on the tract toric...you always have very good thorough reviews on optics and clear reasons why you choose what you choose in an optic.
Glad you have good strong positive opinions toward Athlon and what they are doing/accomplishing. I think they will be very good optics for a long time for what they have done in the scope world to put good functionality, quality and price on their scopes.

Any ideas on how the 3-15 toric compares to the 4-20 in terms of low light performance and glass?
The 3-15 is not a FFP design if that matters. The 4-20 does very well in low light, the glass has heavy CA but not out of the ordinary for this price category, resolution is the best I've seen for this price, it appears the 3-15's share a similar formula but not sure if they are a LOW product like the 4-20 Toric. Like ILya, I wish Tract had a tree reticle and something with .2, they tell me they are working on that so hopefully soon we'll see a better reticle from them. I would not hesitate to recommend the Toric as a top pick for the $1k category if you don't mind the reticle.
I was looking for a ( SFP ) in low vari-power scope . was looking at that TORIC UHD 2-10x42 BDC scope .
it has 1/2 MOA BDC Dots in Ret. . seemed was just what I was looking for . But when reading the Spec's . It was like WTF ? .. they only offer there models of 2-10x scopes with a ( 1" tube body ) . and I want 30mm main body, so I have to pass .

Just curious why you passed because of a 1" tube vs. 30mm? A larger tube doesn't necessarily mean a scope will be more robust or draw in more light, larger tubes generally allow for larger internals/travel but with a non turret SFP scope I'm not sure that would matter a whole lot.
Nothing against 1'tube bodies . I just dont own any for lot of years now and all my ring sets are 30 and 34 . but the job I had 'in mind' for the toric 2-10 was for putting in a set of badger 30mm rings and simrad cap . ( For me ) and simrad the SFP is perfect with the 1/2 moa BDC dots and full size Ret. on lower powers . If using the Ret. subtension dots I would go to 10x . But after I saw it was a 1" tube on the toric, I endedup setting a vortex 30mm body in the badger rings .

I think they went 1 inch on hunting scopes to keep the weight down as well as the costs. I'm sure they will come out with more 30mm products over time. They got their feet wet and the feelers are out there for what guys want in the future.
