Transport - Do you remove the bolt, and if so, what do you put it in?

If not necessary, is it recommended or just another excuse to overspend on some nylon?

Suggestions on a particular sleeve/case for the bolt?

Yes remove bolt.
If case get pressure on bolt handle could act as a lever and possibly break stock at wrist.
It's not rocket science stuff just find a sack of some sort and place bolt in it. Wrap bolt in a clean rag with some oil to prevent rust.
A little common sense goes a long way in this hobby.

I don't for transport but do for storage just to minimize safe rash. Softcock makes nice bolt bags. Tourbon on ebay are also nice/cheap.

Removing it just makes me more likely to misplace it.

I've had a handle broken off due to someone shipping the bolt in the rifle. I remove them now always. It was a Remington 700 and definitely had voids in the casting.

Yep, ziplock baggie. I do it so it won't gouge up the foam in my cases.

yes, I shipped a DL Sports MR30 rifle in a McMillan hardcore via USPS. I didn't remove the bolt, someone jumped on the case and broke the bolt handle. I was amazed, that and even with insurance USPS wouldn't cover it. Had to send it back to Nesika and have it fixed. Not cheap. I always remove the bolt now and wrap in bubble wrap
