Trump's Steel and Aluminum Tariff Proposal

What is funny to me is how so many people still don't understand Trump and his intergalactic chess he plays. I mean, you aren't supposed to understand it while he is moving his pieces on the board, but the results are always in the best interest of us Patriots. He is a master persuader and negotiator. Read The Art of War by Sun Tzu. You will understand Trump a lot more once you've completed the book. It's not long and much of it has to do with a different period of time, but there is still a great deal that explains why Trump does what he does. Deception is one of the greatest tactics in war. The last chapter about spy's and espionage/counterespionage is fascinating. Trust in Trump. He is a Patriot.

We are the third largest steel producer in the world. We consume most of our own steel. Imports represent a small percentage of US steel consumption (17%). China isn't even on the top 10 list of countries where we import steel from; this tarrif isn't going to hurt China in the slightest.

Even if you replaced the 17% of steel that comes from outside the country with American steel, you're still going to lose jobs.

Are you arguing that the trade deficit isn't a big deal? Where are your numbers coming from? Because they are different than most published numbers I have seen. Using the phrases "most of our own steel", and "small percentage" tell me you really haven't done any research and are just throwing out bullshit. I do know in 2010, China was producing over half of the world's steel, and 10x more than the US. No kidding, not all of the China steel we buy comes from directly from China, transshipping is a big part of their business. I think I trust the economic professionals and consultants on this decision over you, sorry. Short term it'll trim the fat in exchange for long term benefits.

I dont care if China becomes world steel supplier Inc.

Other countries are free to buy from whomever they wish.

I do demand that whatever regulation we put on our businesses that anyone that wants to enter our market has to comply with our imposed standards.

If they can produce it to our domestic standards, ship it over here and still be cheaper well shame on our businesses.

and regards the mentioned price increase and possibility of price fixing to take advantage of a situation in flux well if that were to occur I hope the Justice Dept is there to do something about. (Lord knows they are not investigating anything they should be. Hopefully they wouldnt recuse themselves from a racketering crime because racketering and russia both start with R.)

the steel industry hasnt been "protected". They have been given an opportunity to get their shit together. If they dont step up with expansion and modernization than they can eat a dick.

My little example of today why we need to build our businesses........

Been upgrading the camping equipment some since the kids are getting old enough to shit in the woods and function on their own. Still its not a minimalist adventure I need to provide Mac and Cheese or spaghetti or they will not eat all weekend.

So Ive been looking for a Coleman suitcase stove. Dont bother going to the store and buying new. Ebay is your friend.

Having learned my lesson from buying a brand new Coleman lantern and finding it to be a POS even if it did work okay I went to Ebay and found a 1968 vintage Coleman big hat lantern that kicks balls on the new product in quality and looks.

So I went back to the Ebay well for my stove search...

Picked up this 1964 vintage two burner.....

Solid 1/4 inch steel rod grate.

formed metal structure. Not just a bent piece of sheet metal. This is solid.

Ill give Coleman credit because for the lanterns and stove I think the primary assembly, fuel tanks for example are made in Kansas but I know there are new parts sourced in China.

This is how we used to build shit and if reasonably cared for 50 odd plus years later its still going strong.

I want that quality back.

The camp cooking gear will be getting a big upgrade this year. Ill still bring the M1950 for my personal coffee maker....

Sorry Im not going to give up the Heineken imports for Budweiser. Ill only support quality American made products.

Sometimes a feller just wants a lager not the sugary craft beers following the Sam Adams formula.

As it is with everything else, tons of money are thrown at satisfying the uneducated palates of the youthful masses. Most kids these days wouldn't recognize a good beer if they were swimming in it.

Hell, around here they think PBR is THE thing to drink! There are 9 microbreweries within an hour of us and they drink that cat piss..... there are multiple places that stock 200-1000 different micro/import brews....yet they drink cat piss and dress up like homo-lumberjacks......

Great looking stove. If you want an import beer try hoegaarden. Wheat beer that's great on hot summer day and doesn't taste like it's sat in the sun for three weeks.

I'll go as far as to say that I'll forever back Trump over the trollop. That being said, "invent-a-fact" is a childs game.

I know there are a few here, that will foam at the mouth and shall have to get their ativan hit increased, but seriously? If anyone here actually knows anything about the true "Softwood Lumber Agreement" and what is ACTUALLY going on there, feel free to chime in. So Much 'invent-a-fact' has been spewed with that over the years, that it truly is deplorable. Start with this:

Exactly how many softwood timber forests ARE THERE in the USA? Go ahead, include Alaska. I'll wait while you do the math. Then, just for the sake of argument, lets include the viability of harvest AND the cost of transport. Both of the raw logs, AND of the processed product.

Supply vs Demand does exist in a Capitolistic environment. Due to the fact that WE have supply, and with all your tornado's and town-burnings that YA'LL have demand.... I guess we should be preparing for the impending "Operation Canuckian Freedom", eh?

Time for Canuckians to start stockpiling food. That way, when the Newfie Army DOES go to war with the US, we then actually CAN look at feeding all the prisoners that we have to harbor until it's over.

When you canucks have to actually buy the land you're cutting, you won't be able to flood the US market with your cheap wood. GA has more acres of private forest land than any other US State.

The back and forth will not change a common premise.
The governments of said countries should be making policy based on the value added to their own countries.
The US has in fact been doing the opposite of this for years.
This has created industry in other countries that might/might not have been.
As the US is a large or largest consumer in many areas policy change can and will effect others.
