Truth about Surgeon Actions?

You can't buy them directly through surgeon, they do pop up from time to time at various vendor sites. I picked up a 1086 from bugholes about 4 months ago.... Just gotta keep an eye out when they come available

Really, when did this come about? I knew they were way behind but didn't know they wouldn't sell em. I like my surgeon. But I wont try to buy another if that's how it goes. I'll be just fine with my Templars. Hope they decide to sell again. I'll be in the market for another soon.

If I remember correctly Wade said in a different thread that they are starting up another shift making the actions. And that at some point in the future they would sell them again.

Granted I could be wrong...but thats what I seem to remember.

This needs to be a sticky so people will stop posting "speculation". No reason to hate on them because they stopped accepting orders to catch up rather than continue to create a even longer backlog.

I recently ordered a rifle from them and was told that they are moving their assemble group to Arizona. They are keeping their manufacturing in OK, but will now have more room to expand the machine shop.

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Everyone claims there are as good or better action out now than a Surgeon 591, but nobody goes crazy when a Deviant or any other action gets posted for sale. Let a Surgeon get posted and watch the hysteria that ensues. Also, try posting a Deviant for $300-$400 more than what they normally cost and see if anyone buys it.

And as for my opinion.....I sold my Deviant and would not buy another one if it was half price.

I'm sitting here in the shop, looking at a NIB Surgeon 591, with two bolts, a 308 BF and a 7/300WSM BF. Have the McHunter stock all inletted for it, waiting for warmer temps to bed it. NOW.... I find that it's worth that much, but I can't have another????

Lawdy lawdy, what am I to do?

B'live I'll just polish it, not gonna even shoot it. I am not a good person.....

My personal opinion, I'm just shy of a 15 month wait on a 591 yet the are currently stating on their site "If you don't see the rifle you are looking for in stock, give us a call at 405-567-0183. Lead times for a custom build are as short as 1 week!" Nothing wrong with that.... Righttttttt?!

Since Preston sold the company his cock size is irrelevant, the new Owners CEO is Mark Johnson, Dont think I want to compare cocks with a man with the last name "Johnson".

Im not sure if Surgeon will ever sell actions again, I have heard it from them both ways. The reason you see surgeons for sale and getting 200-400 more than retail is because you cannot get one. So comparing that to a Defiance which you can call up and order is not a real comparison, They are both great actions.

I've had both and its not just my opinion, the Deviant offers a few more benefits over the 591. Its not scientific at all. Don't get your feelings hurt, they are both great actions.

Yes, Surgeon has a very prestigious reputation, it is well deserved but the reason they are selling higher then normal price is simple business 101. Supply cannot meet demand, they are the holy grail just because they are unobtainable. Back when I bought mine production was high and I got one brand new for $1150 from a private party. It is what it is, they are both great actions but the Deviant offers the integral stuff now along with its other options that Surgeon could not. I'm no fan boi, I love both but the OP stated if he had to wait he would just go with a Templar, which insinuates to me he feels it may be of a little lesser quality when in fact it meets or exceeds Surgeons quality.

Lol

I hope they're still selling. Sucks if they're not selling anymore i had one planned way down the road and all. Honestly i'd just like try a bunch of custom actions. Wouldn't mind having a badger, surgeon, or defiance. Just for the sake of finding my preference and try them.

It makes business sense for Surgeon to first supply actions for their own rifles, then to vendors with whom they have established relationships, and last to single-sale end users. If you want one, best option seems to be keeping in contact with Surgeon's vendors.

For what it's worth, I checked out a Defiance and a Surgeon before I bought a 591 for my last build, and didn't see a great deal that was going to make a difference to me once I stopped fondling it and started shooting it.

I was at a gun show on Feb 8 and talked to a guy that had 3 Surgeon rifles on his table. He told me that Surgeon was going to start selling actions again and that I should call Surgeon and talk to Wade about ordering one. Today I called Surgeon and was told that Wade no longer works there. The person I talked to would not let me place an order for an action.

This don't bother me at all. I like my surgeon just fine. But I do find myself liking the defiance better though. Its doing a better job with a (what I think) better ejector and ready to go and cheaper. My gap seems to be more consistent than my surgeon so this don't phase me a bit. They all come and go. A while back it was all about Lawton. Now surgeon. Who's next? Their will always be great rifles to be bought by someone. Don't take this as me bashing Surgeon. I really love them. But I shoot just as good with my gaps and other guys also can build hammers. Just support the guys that bring em to you.

What's Wades username here? Would like to send him a pm. I've heard surgeon is moving the rifle building from Oklahoma to Phoenix AZ right now. Actions will still be made in OK. I've heard only some of the crew are moving to AZ to build rifles in the new shop. Kind of makes me nervous about my build not being put together by the same team in OK.

Say the surgeon fanboy...

Surgeon are popular like kreiger is popular but that really mean not much. Rarity is not a factor of quality.

Rarity if a factor of either bad management in production and to high demand because people are like sheep and always do as other do. Oh and add to this tactical fanboyism...lame.

The point is defiance and stiller are premium acfion manifactuer but...defiance are still better because they can manage theyr production and they offer alot of option that surgeon will never offer

Maybe you had a bad experience but it mean nothing. I could say that about all the surgeon that i have built for client that were loose as a whore butt and improperly timed but i dont generalise because it is isolated events.
