I think the "old man strength" will pull through and hopefully drill that wannabe into the ground.
age is still undefeated. he may still have some strength but as the rounds roll away, the stamina just cannot keep up. Now, i admit, i have not seen any vids of Tyson or Paul training.
Jake Paul doesnt seem like a wannabe to me, He's been training with USA Olympic boxing team trainers. I can guarantee he will be well prepared for this fight and he fought 4 times last year. Regardless if you hate him or why, you have to recognize that dude has some skill.
I am 52 and I still run...but slooooow. It's honestly it's more joging (or maybe it's yoging with a soft J).
I built a walk-in closet for my mom and could not f-ing believe how heavy two sheets of 1/2" drywall had become. I used to carry four up stairs like it was nothing. Maybe they're using bismuth in it now?
Tyson was never a fantastic boxer. He was more raw speed and power (and sheer hatred) than finesse. He was always a brawler and a puncher. If he did not have 44 KOs or TKOs in 58 fights he might have lost on many of those cards. Buster Douglas, the guy who pretty much ended his reign, won every round of that fight, but the whole of boxing was so reved for Holyfield vs Tyson that they tried to rob him. That was the seediest side of boxing totally exposed in my mind.
If I bet it would be on Tyson, but I won't bet, because no one has any earthly idea how it might turn out. I hope it's a George Forman type comeback. After this election I can believe in the most improbable comebacks you can think of...
i will disagree with most of what you have said here in regards to Tyson wasnt a fantastic boxer. He truly was. His footwork, his follow-up, his slips, they were really incredible. He just overshadowed all of that by his sheer, raw power. There are guys out there right now, not even fighters who have incredible raw power but if you can't put it together in the ring with your footwork and head movement, your power is worth nothing.
Take this for what its worth, but i last stepped into the ring in April at 42. I was a fill-in on a card that a guy got hurt two weeks before by tearing his bicep while training. I still keep into fairly decent shape (relatively), hit the boxing gym a few times a month when my work schedule allows, and they called and asked me to step in on 7 days notice. Stupid me, i said yes, because I like the challenge and the competition. i got two workout sessions in plus 2 sparring sessions and took the day before the fight off. I didnt know the guy i was fighting, all they would tell me is he is similar build and weight to you (super heavyweight, over 201 lbs) , but I knew what the real qualifier is and that was AGE. I was like, "He's 15 years younger than me, isnt he??" Sure as shit, he was 28.
Now, I can still hit very hard, my hands are still pretty fast (sparring guys in the 160-sih range who are much faster to try and keep up) and i was focusing on my movement and slips and less on crushing him. I opened up his nose in the second round and bled it again in the third. He got some good hooks in on me but i dont think he ever hit me in the face..... i made him whiff ALOT. But i just ran out of gas, and he kept coming. so as i am gassed and trying to block, he's landing on the sides of the head for points. Last time i had fought in a USA boxing sanctioned fight was 6 years before and i prepared for 5 month prior. Was in the best shape of my life. needless to say, that fight i won easily. This one, the age difference did me in.
i am afraid Tyson will not be able to keep up with Paul. Tyson needs to try and end it early but Paul will be doing everything he can to evade, as he should. About the 5-6th round, i expect Paul to start being very aggressive, chop down the body and then just start crushing him as Tyson gets tired. Its science, so Tyson may rope him into getting cocky, but i dont know. Tyson has done a lot of drugs over the last 25 years.
My prediction is Paul TKOs him sometime before the 8th. Maybe much sooner depending on how quick Mike still is.
