Tyson vs Paul

I kind of agree. I don’t think it’s “scripted” per se, but, I would guess Netflix would have them at least drag it out on purpose for a few rounds.

If I remember right, there was some other agreements made when the fight was set up, like glove types and such.

Netflix isn’t a pay per view, so I don’t know if it’s worth the money putting on the match if Paul gets knocked out in the first 5 seconds.
From what I have read the gloves are heavier than standard.

I am 52 and I still run...but slooooow. It's honestly it's more joging (or maybe it's yoging with a soft J).
I built a walk-in closet for my mom and could not f-ing believe how heavy two sheets of 1/2" drywall had become. I used to carry four up stairs like it was nothing. Maybe they're using bismuth in it now?

Tyson was never a fantastic boxer. He was more raw speed and power (and sheer hatred) than finesse. He was always a brawler and a puncher. If he did not have 44 KOs or TKOs in 58 fights he might have lost on many of those cards. Buster Douglas, the guy who pretty much ended his reign, won every round of that fight, but the whole of boxing was so reved for Holyfield vs Tyson that they tried to rob him. That was the seediest side of boxing totally exposed in my mind.

If I bet it would be on Tyson, but I won't bet, because no one has any earthly idea how it might turn out. I hope it's a George Forman type comeback. After this election I can believe in the most improbable comebacks you can think of...

George Foreman define Douglas to a T: “Shot an arrow into a tree and drew a target around it.” Douglas was never a real contender. He was in the right place at the right time.

netflix is a subscription based service, so it doesnt matter to them if the fight last 5 seconds or 5 rounds. its not like PPV where you need people to keep coming back to the next buy-in all the time.

if the fight goes 5 seconds, netflix is fine because people will go.... oh i signed up for a month of this just to watch this fight (coincidently, MUCH cheaper than the $99 PPV price of not long ago) but since i have time to kill, let me see what else is on there. Movies? shows? Documentaries? Cool! maybe ill forget about cancelling and just see how this goes for a while.

and netflix comes out ahead.

Heavier gloves so the fight goes longer and less injuries imho

lighter gloves hurt way more like way back in the day when they fought 29rds with 4oz gloves or whatever those things were:

Everyone likes a sideshow.

We all want Tyson to win, and that is the point.

Paul has found a cheat code to enrich himself and retired fighters. He's almost like Santa Claus meets PT Barnum.

The guy does have skill and legitimate power. He will almost certainly TKO Tyson. Tyson's corner should have the towel ready.

ETA: If Paul were a serious contender, he would box his peers. He would charge to the top of the boxing world, not chase 58 year old legends.

I've yet to see any boxing out of Jake Paul that I was impressed with. Yes, he can beat Joe Redneck, but every serious fighter he's been in the ring with, was out of shape, mentally, physically, or both. He's a YT entertainer, who's a pretty good boxer. I'm not impressed.

ok i just watched highlights of two of his fights. ill retract something i said that he is a pretty good boxer. hes not really a pretty good boxer..... he's a puncher that tries to fight long, and he overextends himself with his footwork. He has above average head movement but he's constantly out of position after throwing punches.

Paul is a puncher, that can take some abuse. His constant retreat when pressed means he will tire easily. If Tyson bides his time and gets him on the inside, he's got a chance. Tyson needs to be the counter puncher because Paul is not. he's throwing long straight rights but he changes elevation well.

if mike has his footwork top notch and is still has some speed, he could end it early.

on top of what i said about the counter punch, surely Mike has seen how low Paul dives down with his head when he throws that long overhand right??

He leaves himself WIDE open for a textbook step-inside Tyson uppercut that will put the lights out.

Well mike fought roy jones just a couple years ago and he can still move but it's not like when he was young:

Yeah but its also Roy Jones.

Did you see the Logan Paul MayWeather. MayWeather was playing with him, multiple times he could have KO'd him but let him recover. I'd argue Logan is a better boxer than his brother.

We will find out soon enough.

Like Ali, Tyson can read his opponent, extremely well and studies his opponent to the point that he knows what's coming next and where the openings are. This skill NEVER goes away and I don't think Paul has ever developed it. YES! That step inside uppercut, or hook to the body is lethal.

I think Tyson is far above the level of conditioning he was at for the Jones fight. I don't think he'll have any trouble with two minute rounds.

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul to get immediate boxing suspensions after fight

"Consequently, they will be mandated to rest for at least seven days post-fight, with the board stipulating a three-day rest period for every round fought. If the bout between Tyson and Paul goes the full eight rounds, they will be required to rest for at least 24 days.

Post-fight, both fighters will undergo medical evaluations to ensure no serious injuries have been sustained, reports the Irish Star. In the event of a technical knockout - where the referee determines a fighter can't safely continue - the losing boxer must rest for at least 30 days.

If either Tyson or Paul lose by knockout - when a fighter is knocked down and fails to rise before the count of ten - a minimum 60-day rest period is mandated."

-------

That pic of Tyson - he's been putting in the time getting ready.

I don't follow boxing, but hope that Tyson cleans his opponent's clock in short order. Gotta root for the old guy since I are one.
I’m rooting for Tyson also but it’s because I was a kid when he was at his peak destroyer mode.

I don’t know much about Paul but I got nothing against him. He seems to at least hustle and put in the work so I respect him for that

Oh, good. That’s late enough that I’ll be sound asleep when it starts so I won’t even be tempted to stay up for it.
Same here. I don't need two hours of pump for a show. It's rigged as hell on a sliding scale anyway, in favor of Jake, because he's terrified of Iron Mike.

I can't help but think of the sparring partners tyson has to help train for paul. Who can put tyson's style and pressure on paul in sparring to prepare for this in training? If memory serves, the guys that did well against tyson kept pressure on him. The trick is to not die while doing that.

One of the trainers works with MMA fighters. The videos I have seen involved Tyson focusing on close in, offensive work with hard fast punches.

I think, if Tyson doesn’t take Paul out in the first 45 seconds of the fight, and if Paul gets some good shots in those old-ass ribs, it’s going to be a long night for Tyson. JMO.
Not a boxing maven by any stretch...

But never missed a Tyson fight since my yoot.... When he was our age and in upstate NY making a name for hiss-elf.

My real (sadness) opinion is that this is scripted. Which would be pathetic for Iron Mike to be a part of.

But I get it... he gets $20M just for showing up? Well... duh.

That said, iif he wants to go off script and pound the Instragrammer who is trying to rake in $$$ by stepping in a ring... well, Mike... Please kick him into the next parallell Universe??? With extreme prejudice.

We'll know in a few hours. If I can stay up that late. HA!

Training with Mayweather.

so, it be Eight, 2-Minute Rounds. With each agreeing to be wearing extra padded fight gloves .
I dont know ? who the extra padding going to help. Will it help Paul in buffering against Tyson's dynamite . Or will it help Tyson against Paul's staying the distance with stamina.
.

I changed planes in LA circa 2004 and walking from one gate to the next I passed 2 people who I recognized, one was Erik Estrada, average sized happy dude, walked within arms reach, the other was Tyson, I didn't get within 30ft of him and he scared the shit out of me, he has that intimidating stare down. Plus I had seen him fight numerous times and he just bled anger and intimidation in the terminal.

I couldn't imagine getting in the ring with him, that alone takes balls, I'd be like Jerry Lewis, except crying

Looking at training footage from both, unless paul can run tyson out of gas, or time a good shot, I don't see anything paul does better from a skills standpoint. If these were a couple 20 year old dudes and one was moving and punching like tyson is, I'd bet on him.

Erik Estrada... Chips!!! ah haha ha ha...

And then Iron Mike. Who had ears instead of chips.

Most excellent!

I have a hunch that Iron Mike in person could be really creepy. Like the kind of guy who you don't want to see on a dark street.... but who is actually in an airport concours... and just as scary!

We'll know in a few hours. Or you'll know. I'm not making it to 10 PM. I have to be up at 5 to go to lumber yard and grocery store.

So there is that.

I'll check in on the results about 5...

M'kay?

Cheers!

Its a money grab for sure, unless things go off the rails my bet is on decision/tie and everybody gets paid.

At least you can get it to stream. I just keep getting freezing and buffering and I'm sure it will get worse as we get closer to the main event. Netflix really shit the bed on this one. Didn't they realize most of the world will watch this fight?
