UPS Refuses to ship Action and Bolt back to Defiance for Warranty Inspection

Drove all the way to a UPS hub today about 3 !/2 hours round trip to get these parts to Defiance. They wanted to send them by air for about $140. They could see that they were shipped to me from Defiance by UPS Ground. Then I was handed my parts after the clerk got of the phone and I was told NO SHIP.

I need to have a supply of YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID bumper stickers for things like this.

I hope this is not going to be normal just a isolated incident.

You tell them how to ship, they can want to do air all they want but its not their call.

What preceded them making a phone call? Something seems off with this, or you (foolishly) told them what was in the packaging.

Never tell any carrier what’s in the box. It’s just parts. Print your own labels at home and drop off where allowed.

Ask defiance to send you a pre made label. Most manufacturers will if it is warranty work.

or, have defiance zap you a shipping label and either hand it to a driver or drop it off anywhere that does ups.

I had an issue trying to ship from a UPS store. It was a fuckin barrel blank! I was ready to start bitcing about it, and said UPS delivered it to my house just a few days earlier. The girl working there said it wasn't a UPS policy, but the store policy. Some UPS stores operate independently, and can set whatever guidelines they choose. Fair enough, I choose to never ship from them again, and ship from FEDEX instead.

I actually saw a kid trying to ship his airsoft rifle to the manufacturer for repair. UPS Store would not accept it.

What? UPS came and picked up a rifle from my front door this last January... They knew exactly what it was and I told 'em when I called for the pickup, as if the $6k insurance and shape of the box didn't give it away. I didn't bullshit 'em, didn't want any problems if they fucked it up.

Ground. From you to the mfg. or smith. I'd insure it though. And tape on three labels on it. You also need to get the driver to sign a paper that says he actually picked it up and now it's in their hands. Don't forget that part.

Air is for handguns I'm told. But I think that has exceptions too.

You can always get your local store to do it.

I ship with ups all the time without problem from the hubs. I always have a copy of the ffl though if Im going to tell them it's a firearm(ups policy). Now if I do not have a copy of the ffl with me I just say Im sending "machined parts". Not lying and not being to specific but still could make an insurance claim.
Ups and fedex have specific rules shipping longguns, pistols, and ammo. They both allow it.
Ups stores are independently owned and most do not ship firearms.........but you can print a ups label online for a firearm and drop the package off at a ups store.

Because usp will be who you deal with, not the branch. Ups allows firearm shipment or parts. I think an explanation of what those parts were doesn’t make much difference, just the declared value.

I live in CA and even with that have not had any issues shipping rifles/gun parts even declaring what it is. I would copy down their regs and go back to the hub and speak to a supervisor.

Actually, Debra at Kinkos asked last week when I shipped that action and barrel to have it spun up.
She asked what was in the box and I said "barreled action".
She looked at the address and said, "Oh, I see it's going to an FFL, no problem."

Paid my money and off it went.

Shipping companies are getting more and more anti-firearm.

I had to ship a rifle back, and I contacted stores and hubs for UPS and Fedex. They were all useless, and wanted nothing to do with shipping a firearm. Fedex even put me in contact with their hazardous shipping department, and they were beyond useless.

I ended up just going through an FFL to ship my rifle, because it was going to be such a pain in the ass to do it myself here in Tucson. All the shipping companies were acting as if I was trying to send enriched uranium through the mail.

Others on here have recommended www.shipmygun.com. Reasonable rates and you print off a label, attach it to your package and drop it off at UPS. This may be your best bet. I couldn't use them because my rifle exceeded their weight limit.

"UPS Stores" used to be "Mailboxes Etc.". They entered an agreement with Big Brown to use the name.... that's all. UPS Store employees are not employees of UPS. Never ever, not one. The only thing UPS about them is the package car driver makes a daily call for pickup. "Steel articles" is a good standard description.

This was at a hub. The local UPS stores in the remote area I live will not touch anything to do with a firearm or parts. I told the clerk at the hub they were machined parts that needed to be inspected and refinished by the manufacture.

Then they decided to cut open the box. And 45 min later I was on the way home.

Created the shipping label myself on the UPS website and when I entered "riflescope" a bot said this is "not allowed" to ship, or some such. Changed the word to "telescope" and the label printed no problem.
