Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

A lot of Varget gets burned up in the 6.5L I have burned up about 24 pounds, anywhere from 34.8 up to say 38 grains will work, approach the upper end with caution.

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Me and the guy I shoot w/ use Varget In Our 6.5 x 47L's built by Jon Beanland.
I stated w/ 36.5 and went up .3gr @ a time . accuracy was good all the way through
38gr. So, I stoped with no pressure @ 38gr. W/ accuracy in the 3's
And 2,900+fps.
My shooting buddy did the same

Just my Experiance, need to work you load up 3-5gr @ a time
watching for pressure!

Good Luck
M

That is a fantastic load for the 6.5x47. Had the same barrel and it was amazing.

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

I ran OCW tests on two different 6.5x47s with 130 VLDs and Varget. One had the center of the node at 37.3 gr. 9 twist barrel, the other was 37.5 gr. in an 8 twist barrel. Jam them around .010 and don't look back.
After looking at Bergers max! loads for several rounds It looks like their lawyers helped with testing.

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Its interesting that a fair number of different rifles chambered in 6.5x47 like Varget 36-38 gr/130's/450's. My current load is 37.7 Varget with this combination.

However,I recently purchased some Nosler 123 CC's, and am still tuning that load. It was somewhat inconsistent yesterday afternoon at 800-1000 yds, but the switching winds may have been partially to blame. More work this weekend...

I've had 4 rifles chambered in 6.5x47 (all by different smiths) and they all shot the same load very well.
37.5 Varget
130 VLD's
CCi450's

The two rifles I still have in this chambering both average around 2,865-2,875 fps with this load. I've tried 4350, but to get the speed I wanted it was a compressed load and showed very noticeable pressure signs.

How far off the lands with the 130 using Varget Trevor? With the H4350 with the compressed loads did you have problems with COALs being inconsistent?????

Im using 36.5g of Varget, CCI 450s, and the 140g Nosler Custom Comps and getting outstanding results. The first 5 shots out of the rifle shot a .361 inch group. I think I can push them a tad bit faster and tighten the group up even more. Its a 1:8 25in Krieger barrel

I have tried the CCI benchrest primers and found no real difference between them and the CCI 450s. And I have 25,000 of the BR primers which were given to me by my buddy who just got out of benchrest. SO ill be running them until the 450s become more available.

I actually have gotten better accuracy out of my 6.5x47's with Varget than H4350. I've tried building up loads with 4350, but none are as accurate as Varget. I'm shooting 37.4 gr of varget behind my 130 gr rounds with great results.

What is y'all's take on Reloder 15 with CCI BR-4 bench rest primers and JLK 130 gr bullets? I have a rifle built by Apache Arms. In the area i live in powder is worth more then gold primers are the same. Thanks in advance. I need to learn so please tell it like it is. MM Gentlemen i gave out the wrong weight they are 130 gr. my mistake i weighed 6 of them and they all came out 139 gr.

Didn't know JLK made a 123gr...
anyway, RL15 had produced some great loads for my 6.5x47. 36 to 38 grains depending on OAL of bullet is the loading range. In my experience, its about 50fps faster than Varget with a tad more temp variation.

I just received my Beanland build. It's a Defiance action with a 22" Bartlein M24 5R 1x8 twist barrel.

I'm launching the Norma 130's at 2835-fps using 37.5-gr of Varget. I'm seating the bullet to the same Base to Ogive length as factory Lapua 123-gr loads.

I'm stoked that my barrel is that fast as I was expecting lower velocities with the shorter barrel.

Beanland has my parts now for my 6.5X47. Shouldn't be to much longer now.

38 grains varget br-4 primers 130 vld hunter 20 inch bartlein through a Suppressor, Im getting 2825 fps and great accuracy. Also very quiet with the varget through a short barrel.

I have an Accurate Ordnance built 6.5x47 with a brux 26 inch barrel. It loves any load of varget I put threw it I just had to pick one. I settled on 37.2 grains with the 130 VLD @ 2966 fps. I tested from 36 to 37.5 in .1 increments. All was under .4 MOA.

I'm running 37.5 varget with 123.0gr nosler out to 600 yards. Also using 37 varget with my 139.0gr Scenar for 1000+. Tried 37 varget with 140 hybrid but stopped after pressure signs.

***update*** started piercing primer during match. Looks like 37gr. Varget is right on the edge with 139.0gr Scenar. Not a problem when given time to let rifle cool, but shooting strings in match was to much. Gonna back it off some. Hopefully doesn't hurt load to much because I've really enjoyed this load.

37.5 grains of Varget and 130 VLD's work great in an 8 twist 26" Krieger.
llThe C.I.P. DRAWINGS are great! I was reading on the CIP site pressures can go over 75k psi while the listed max pressure is about 51900 psi with 34.9 gr . Of Varget
