Update,

They installed Xenforo on the test server, but as expected, many errors, they are working with the Dev Team, right now they are on a bit of a hold to diagnose the slowdown.

Looks like a memory drain is happening and causing the issues,

But work as begun to move things over

Will it be a clean start or will you bring the threads from here over?

Quick Update,

They created a new importer and they have started to migrate the test server over, so that is moving forward tonight. It's not perfect and there may be some data loss, but minor. I think they said a few avatars were stripped away or something. Might be a few lost Private messages too, but again, minor shit. At this point, I would almost lose everything to get off vBulletin

Why is this site a target for hackers, well number one, it's a gun site, number two, it's popular, our Alexa ranking is pretty high,

Screen Shot 2018-01-11 at 6.07.27 PM.png even with the intermission from scout, we score pretty well and as you can see growing again

But we won't have to suffer this slow down much longer, I hope, (fingers crossed)

This is fucking lame,

They still have not got it figured out, apparently nothing Is working

so sick and tired of this crap, If there was just so much great information here I would kill the upgrade and just do a full clean install

Tired of IT problems with this damn software. All it does is create more problems then it solves

That probably shouldn't be a hard task migrating from vb5 to xenforo (or any other forum software). Looks like you're running SH on an AWS instance. I'm sure you already have, but taking a snapshot (actually, taking daily snapshots) wouldn't be a bad idea. My process would be: take snapshot, launch new instance, install xenforo (or whatever) on new instance, migrate data (including schemas, pictures, whatever) from old instance to new instance assuming you're not using any CDNs or anything, change DNS records.

In theory that'd take about 3-5 hours to learn all that shit, make whatever tools are needed, and do some testing, take a snapshot of the new instance, then it's just waiting for the DNS stuff to go through, unless you're using an elastic IP in which case I might just disassociate/associate that one.

the importer for Xenforo is in beta, it was not working with vB 5 as it should. It would freeze up and not complete the task.

They are writing new code on the fly to try and fix the migration, we have been at this for more than a week, with the server team, with Xenforo developer, this is not just flicked a switch like anyone makes it sound.

This is site is big, and these things do not work as advertised. has nothing to do with DNS number or CDN delivery, this the migration of the actual data it's not correct and has to be made to work, they are writing the corrections as the import stops and then the entire process has to be restarted. This is partly why everything is shit, because all these tasks are running in the background

i say dump all the data in the exchange forum. i dont think we need threads from items that sold 5 years ago.

That sucks, good luck.

Yup, I know the suck that is migrating to a new platform. That last sentence there has me kinda confuzzled, though. They're trying to do the migration/dev work on the production server? If true, I'd fire those guys. I'm suspecting it is since they're trying to test a migration on a full dataset rather than trimming it down to a handful of rows so that the edit-test-repeat cycle takes fractions of a second rather than minutes or longer.

You literally just need to right click the instance name in the EC2 console, go down to image, go over to 'create image', then go to AMIs, wait for it to switch from pending to available, right click the image name, click launch, select a free tier instance size, assign it to whatever security groups you've got set up and a couple of other pointy clicky things, then click the big green button and boom - SH server has been cloned and can be used for doing that CPU/RAM intensive nonsense they're doing without impacting the actual site.

Same process can be used to get a base xenforo install up and running on a clean machine and then just attach the SH cloned disk to that instance and copy over whatever static files need to be there. I'd never try to install a new platform in parallel with the old one, especially not an old one that had been compromised.

That's just unprofessional.

Also I'm assuming they're using the importer made by necrophyte. PHP aint the right tool for that job.
