Rifle Scopes Vortex 1x6

Does anyone have any experiance with the new Vortex 1x6 ? I have used the Meopta 1x4 and was pleased, but would like the extra power and was wondering if the dot in the 1x6 is to small for up close work and daylight useable. Any input would be appreciated.

NO the dot is perfect IMO. It is very bright. I think their is like 10 or 11 settings. Perfect scope for 3gun.

THe dot is as bright if not brighter than a Cmore on the highest settings and is a very useable size.

Thinking of getting one for 3 gun. A old friend said that he likes it as much if not more than his Swarovski. Just got to find a good deal on one.

Do it...its designed for 3gun specifically, especially with the JM reticle.

i've shot both and i really like both scopes, the swarovski has a wider field of view and is lighter, but cost is a lot higher. for the cost, the vortex is tough to beat.

I have looked at this scope off and on. I recently bought a Leupold VX-6 "Multigun" for use on a 18" AR. So far pretty happy with the Leupold.

I just put together a 16" AR and am in need of scope for it. I find myself revisiting the Razor, but I really (I know this sounds stupid) do not care for the color of the scope. Why they did not make it black? If it was black, I would snap one up.

So I am now thinking about the Bushnell 1-8.5X for the 18" and moving the Leupold to the 16".

Post up your opinion of the Razor if you buy one.

Yeah, KillZone, I know, hah... Well as you know we have been waiting and waiting and waiting. You couldn't wait, we could. We don't blame you at all for bailing. But we wanted to wait for the much better deal. I paid $800 for mine but would have gladly paid the $1000 regular price, wait and all....

I'm still trying to figure out why the vortex is a better deal than the SS.
I think the vortex is, no, I was going to say lighter but its not, its heavier. But Viper 1-6 has greater field of view by 20' and what else? I'm leaning towards the Viper having better daylight bright capability, based solely on reports I've read on the two. I'd have to look through Viper and SS both to see that comparison, but reports are that the glass is very good on viper.

SS 1-6x24 HD mil/mil FFP, and that innovative circle dot mil scale reticle, 11 position illum control, removable caps with thread protectors provided. If the glass is pretty good then it's a hit.

Viper 1-6x24 HD Gen II MOA/MOA SFP. If the reticle had some hash marks and was mil/mil I might have done what you did too. No, I'm lying, SS reticle just too bad ass the way it works with FFP. But still I do want FFP, I liked FFP on my USO 1.5-6.

I just really like the SS' features it has, and that reticle. However you have your viper now & I don't have SS yet. It may ship today, though, those guys are super busy & are trying to ship more, they have them.

Anyway that first post of mine here, I was thinking about pure value. I could have spent $500++ more for the VIPER compared to this SS group buy deal, and the viper I honestly don't doubt is a fine scope with great glass. The wait, I know you could not wait, I could that's all.

They both have Japanese glass, and I have been very pleased with the glass on my Vortex 4-16 and the 6-24 "for the money". I have been a Leupold shooter for years, but the Vortex tracks great. My last 2 Leupolds got sold because I had not been impressed.

In this case specifically, because of the reticle & how FFP makes it do what it does. Innovative, however a USO model I saw pics of in a thread here during shot show, I think the new 1-8, is now using the same idea. Similar.

I did have a USO 1.5-8x28 FFP with JNG reticle. It was very good glass, it was a great little scope. The reticle in that one got a little too thick for my liking at 6x. Since the reticle in the new SS 1-6 at 6x has an open center with dot in middle I think it will be better and won't block tiny objects you are scoping on, as bad. The USO wasn't illuminated, it's MOA/MOA & I want to work with mils. I sold that setup for more than I'm paying for the new SS.

That USO I had I think I might have preferred if that one was SFP but I still liked it. This new SS 1-6 reticle design looks like it makes more sense too me when working with FFP.

Edit; I think I lied, it is the March 1-8x24 FFP tactical which showed up with similar reticle as the SS 1-6 FFP has.

But come to think of it the SS 1-4x also functions the same way, only the SS 1-6 looks like it works better to me. Pulls the circle dot in farther and the circle disappears at full power, leaving the mil scale, I don't remember if the 1-4 has the mil scale, don't think it does.

wait,are you guys actually comparing the vortex razor hd gen II 1-6x24 to the swfa ss 1-6?,..and on top of that your saying the ss is better because it's FFP?

obviously,you need to understand better what this vortex is all about,how it's constructed and why it's SFP.

first of,it's obvious to me this vortex is all about certain shooting sports using specific calibers,...it's reticle,the type of illumination(read:actually true bright daylight visible,not just someone on a forum/posting claiming this,...and understanding the relationship of the illumination system and the reticle from a construction POV,which i won't explain now),the type of turret it has,including travel per rotation and yes,even the fact that it's SFP. i'm not going to get into why most who participate in these sports actually prefer SFP.

..and then there's the way it's constructed,which is far superior to the swfa ss 1-6. the entire list of construction superiority is long and i won't list it all here.

the ss 1-6 is geared more towards the "tactical" crowd and a step below in quality and construction to this viper. DO NOT misunderstand me,imo the ss is an awesome scope and one of the best values out there,no doubt about that,..and it's reticle is awesome too for it's purpose. i am in no way,shape or form taking anything away from the SS being a great scope but with this vortex razor and knowing how to use it,you'll be faster on target and accurate if you use it in/for it's proper application.

by the way,i actually prefer the swfa FFP illuminated T for this purpose(tactical). i would find the donut reticle on the 1-6 too cluttered(specifically because of the donut) and taking away from my FOV between powers 2x through 5x. the T reticle is much better on this(for me) because the top portion is always open,very similar to the vortex EBR-1.


please look at different scopes with better eyes,understanding and less (already)invested interest.

Razor HD Gen II 1-6 is clearly the better scope overall. I just can't wait to see what new reticle/turret options vortex has in the works.

^ I never said FFP is better. I do believe the SS is priced far and away better with all the features it has. Two very different scopes though and it makes sense that the Vortex is built better, all that you said I believe you. I guess since I reload I don't want to be stuck on just the same loads the Vortex works with.

The SS reticle is designed to take full advantage of FFP in a 1-6. It is just my preference. As I said, I think the Vortex is a great scope from what I have read about it from guys.

If there was no SS 1-6 I may have just kept the USO, I dunno..... But actually I bought the USO after I ordered the SS 1-6, as a stop gap. But unhappy with it at the range I bought a new SS 12x and I like that one a lot. The 1-6 I'll see if I like it for some target range shooting but I know the 12x is way better for that. I don't do competition.

FFP smokes pole for 3-gun. That's what the OP stated he wants to use the scope for.

Few serious 3-gun shooters use a FFP scope. Dot needs to remain the same size through the power range. I love my Short Dot but the Swarov, Kahles and Vortex 1-6x etc SFP scopes are currently the way to go with Vortex being the best value.
