Vudoo Gun Works V-22 Rimfire Bolt Action

A few wet patches with bore cleaner. After the 3rd came out spotless I knew it was pointless to do more. I used a Hawkeye borescope to verify. I did brush the chamber so I don't get a carbon ring. Dried the bore and ran a wet oil patch when done.

Like that stock and color,Is that the greyboe terrane? How do you like that stock.
Yes, Terrain, grey with black web.
Grip is thin, as I prefer a Manners MCS or T4.
But the vudoo DBM is sweet, it drops the mags well and feeds flawlessly. Wish I had the paddle too.
I have 4 other stocks I prefer, lol, but the fat vudoo mags don't fit well in them, and I'm too tired to sand or file anything.
not sure which barrel, bartlein I think, not that I could shoot the difference!

What are the recommended torque settings for a V-22 in a Grayboe Ridgeback stock?

For the action screws my proceedure: (1). Lub screws; (2). Hand tighten; (3). Tighten front screw about 1/3 of final torque value, then rear action screw; (4). Loosen first front screw and then rear screw about a 1/4 turn using a non-torque screw driver; (4) Repeat Steps and 3 and 4 with torque 2/3 of final value; (5). Tighten front screw first and then rear to final value, loosen and retighten to final value. I was told never to use a torque screw driver to loosen as it destroys the calibration. Not being a machinist this is "Internet Knowledge". Any comments as to its veracity are most welcome.

If you are going to test the accuracy as a function of torque on the action screws what torque increments make a significant difference in your experience? And the resolution with which of torque can be set.

UPS dropped off the 22" Kukri bbl'd action while I was at lunch today, so I went to work on getting it into a Manners PRS-1T as soon as I got home. I'd glued pillars into the stock a couple of days ago, so the epoxy on them was g-t-g. Left them both a tad long on the bottom end so I could trim them if needed; took .030" off the front pillar to get things sitting right, then had to dremel a bit on the bolt handle slot to get clearance for the back edge of the bolt handle. That accomplished, I mounted a new Athlon Cronus in Seekins low rings, got the reticle leveled, wiped the bore out with Ed's Red, grabbed a few boxes of assorted SK & Lapua ammo, and headed out to the range. It took five rounds to get the scope centered up at 50yds after pulling the bolt & peeking through the bore to get it roughly aligned on target. 1st shot hit within 2.5" of where I was aiming, so we were good to shoot a couple of groups before it got dark. We've had a lot of rain/snow mix here lately, too wet to flop down a mat to shoot prone with bipod & bag. So I put a Dog Gone Good bag on the hood of my truck and shot standing. Too much pulse beat from leaning across the fender, but it still shot respectable. 5-shot group was also from 50yds, SK Rifle Match. I pulled the first shot out low & right, but the next four went into the same hole. Think I'm going to like this Bartlein bbl & the PRS-1T stock - my first after years of shooting Manners T4As.

Man, I love the look of that rifle! It sounds like you did not bed it, just pillars, correct? I look forward to seeing more out of it soon! My dad just came up for a visit this week & I gave him the Vudoo I bought for him, and maybe with any luck we can go shoot it this weekend. My brother and I just placed an order for our own Vudoo's, both with the 20" Ace Kukri barrel. So now we will have 2 Ace barreled rifles and 1 Bart in our family. He is putting his in a MPA Hybrid chassis and I have a Manners TF2A with the Mini chassis (interested to see how that mini chassis works out).

We cant wait!

Man you guys got me salivating. Don't get me wrong I love my 452, but these v22 are just on a whole different level. Dumped alot this year on rifles and optics but I definitely see a v22 in my near future.

Jesse, I gave into temptation when Paul offered to send this bbl'd action out instead of waiting on the one I'd actually ordered. For whatever reason, they had it sitting there in the shop, cerakoted in sniper grey, ready to go. They'd called to get me nailed down on the cerakote color on a V-22 ACE Ranch bbl'd action I'd ordered at the same time as the two Kukris (one for me, one for a customer); after we'd settled that, I mentioned how much I was looking forward to getting my hands on a Bartlein 22RF bbl to compare to the Kriegers I've done for my other rifles. Jay broke in to say that they had this bbl'd action sitting there, ready to go, if I'd rather have it than waiting a couple more weeks on the one I'd ordered, which was identical to this one....what shooter in his right mind is going to turn down that kind of offer?!?

You're right - I didn't bed the action, just pillared the stock. Will do more shooting at 100-300yds with Polar Biathlon in it as soon as I get the chance, but if what I saw last evening is any indication of what the rifle's capable of, why bother bedding the PRS-1T?

I recently shot my 40XB repeater after re-setting the action screw torque on the Manners T4A mini chassis to 60/55 in lbs (up from 55/50 in lbs), and saw some improvement in group size with SK Rifle Match out of the rifle's Krieger bbl. That was only one range session, but it was certainly an improvement over what I typically see out of this rifle/ammo combination.

Looking forward to hearing your results & impressions when you've had time to shoot your ACE bbl'd actions - hope the weather cooperates for both of us so we can get more trigger time!

trigger question,
Has anyone installed a XTSP mod 22?
I have one and am not able to get the bolt to close without dropping the firing pin.
Here are a couple of pics in case they help.

Pretty sure I read Vudoo actually saw an accuracy decrease when they bedded their actions into stocks. Sounds weird, but I’m 99% sure I saw that somewhere.
Back in December 2017 I posted
I talked with Both Mike and Paul at VGW before I ordered my RAVAGE.
They Both informed me that at one time they did "bed" these rifles as posted earlier.
But after testing found no real advantage to glass "bedding" the recoil lug, so it was deemed not necessary to improve accuracy.

Barrel? I'll be ordering my Vudoo in a couple of weeks, Ace or Bartlein? Is one better than the other?
I asked the same questions at the time I ordered mine last year. This is what I was told after talking with Mike and others at VGW and I posted in December 2017. As far as barrel selection goes, VGW's own ACE barrels have shown a more Consistent accuracy over the other brands tested and used so far, per Mike. That was including Bartlein at the time. Now that was last year and I believe that Bartlein have greatly improved their rimfire barrel quality since then. A lot of people want Bartlein because of name recognition. I told VGW that I wanted the most accurate barrel they had available at the time. I believe mine is a 20" ACE barrel. I don't get too hung up on a name. I would say that now, either Bartlein or ACE would be equal from what I have gathered. The only thing with ACE barrels is one can only go 20" with it and you need a Bartlein if you want a 22" barrel.

No doubt that Frank and crew put out some of the best centerfire barrels on the market, but IMO rimfire barrels are a bit of a different animal and require a little different manufacturing process. I don't mean that the Barts are not good or capable of top level of accuracy, I am just curious about the Ace brand. It is a barrel I am not familiar with and want to try. I almost went with a Benchmark 3 groove like I said earlier, but I know how they shoot. Part of the fun of all this stuff is trying new things.

The action and magazine system is completely different than anything I have used before, the chamber is custom and a complete unknown to me (I would love to know more of the specifics of it), the breech design is completely new, so it just makes since to go with a totally new barrel! Oh, I am also using a trigger that is completely new to me, the Tubb T7T. Along with a stock / bedding system that I have never used before either, Manners Mini Chassis. This rifle will be like nothing I have ever dealt with before, should be a learning experience.

I sure would like to know more about the chamber design and why certain things were done. But I am definitely excited about trying out this rifle when I get it.

Myself and others have had or have both the ace and the bartlein. None of us have been able to see a change in accuracy good or bad.

The only reason I changed to a bartlein 22” mtu was to get closer to matching my centerfire.

It is tough to tell others what to buy. I asked the Vudoo guys all of the same questions the couple of times that I was in their shop or at a match. We bought my wife's rifle 1st and got a Bartlein. Once her's was finished we ordered mine with an Ace. I've had mine a little over a month now and I haven't stopped smiling yet when I shoot it. They both shoot great. Taking everything into consideration If I order a 3rd rifle it will definitely be the Ace and I won't give it a 2nd thought.

It won't be an actual apples-to-apples comparison, since the Ace I'll be getting a couple of weeks will be in their Ranch contour, but the Kukri I just posted about yesterday is a Bartlein. If nothing else, I'm looking forward to seeing if both these bbl'd actions will shoot equally well with the lots of SK Rifle Match & Pistol Match that I'd stocked up on for my 40X jelrod repeaters & original V-22 that I barreled with a Krieger.

A good friend with a jelrod-converted & re-barreled CMP 40X repeater has found that, for the most part, any ammo that my Kriegers, Benchmark 3-groove, & Lilja titebore bbls shoot well will also shoot great in his Krieger with jelrod's chamber, which IIRC, is nearly identical to the PTG Eley EPS I've used on my bbls. It'd be a real bonus if both the new V-22 bbls shoot Rifle Match really well, as that's the brand/grade ammo I have the most of.

rj112275 - Will do. I'm really looking forward to getting that Ranch ACE up & running. UPS driver caught me at home yesterday afternoon, and handed me two packages - one from Manners with an EH2 in Elite GAP camo, the other from Athlon with a 6-24x50 Midas TAC scope - both for the Ranch V-22. There's also a Trigger Tech Diamond in the shop that will go on the Ranch, so as soon as it arrives, I'll dive right into getting it ready to go shooting.

Awesome! I love my Kukri build, but weights about 12lbs. My next one will be as light as possible, so.... probably 8lbs... +?

I just picked up a 20" Kukri Barreled action yesterday. Put it in a Manners T6A with a TT diamond and a 624i like my centerfires. Will be a couple days until I can shoot it, but I love the way it feels compared to any other rimfire I had in the past. Having the other components made it a little easier for me to make the jump.

Update: I got impatient and called Vudoo. Turns out I only had to pay $500 deposit for a full build and the rest when it's done in 6-8 weeks. So I promptly ordered a Sinister full build with a TriggerTech Diamond upgrade. I think I have an impulse control problem.

Edit: I feel I should mention their fantastic customer service. I called today (Saturday) expecting to leave a message with my questions but someone picked up the phone even though they weren't technically open today. She then brought a riflebuilder over and put me on speakerphone with both of them. They walked me through the order and he answered my questions/gave recommendations while she noted my feature choices for the build. They were incredibly helpful and friendly the whole time and I am very impressed with how they do business from what I've seen so far.

Yep, my 22" Kukri weighs 13lbs with scope, one empty mag, & Harris bipod - and that's with a PRS-1 stock, which weighs almost a full pound less than the Elite shell T4A on my 1st V-22 build. As much as I enjoy shooting these two rifles, I very much want one I can grab & go, one that won't remind me of the arthritis in my old shoulders, wrists, & elbows. Hoping the Ranch version in the very light EH2 stock will fulfill that requirement....guess if it doesn't, I'll start looking for an attractive female gun bearer...if you're going to dream, dream of what you really want!

I read that the voodoo is a control round feed. Are the 40X conversions supposed to be also? Controlled round feed for a 22lr means rim under the extractor as it is being pushed into the chamber, right?

Mark,
Yes, the Vudoo is CRF. I first developed it in 40X Repeater Conversion as a means of properly aligning the cartridge with the chamber so the bullet isn’t damaged in the feed process.

Are new vudoo actions typically tight running at first? My first vudoo was used and worn in. It ran like glass.

My new one with around 70 rnds through it will stick and almost stop halfway back when cycling. Can definitely feel the lugs(I’m assuming) dragging in there.

This typical and smooths out, or have I run across another anomaly?

Same experience with mine. If not already done, thoroughly clean the bolt and action and reapply a lube, seems it may be shipped with something on it that lends itself to being a bit sticky. About 600rds thru mine and its smoothed out alot.

Also i have found some lots of CCI standard velocity that are nearly impossible to chamber, but I've run RWS, Eley, and Fed thru it with no hiccups whatsoever. SK is up next.

Vudoo, MPA Hybrid Stock, Swaro Z8i 1-8. All the good words about Vudoo are 110% true. Superb ergonomics for positional shooting.

And an all-black rifle mostly matte black. Ready for night-ops.

A few more observations. The V-22 just exudes quality, ever bit as much as an Anschutz 54. Functioned perfectly. And I prefer matte black to gunmetal blue but that is cosmetics. Bolt cycling had a wee bit of stick-slip until used a small amount of molydisulfide. Now cycles like glass ever bit the equal of Anschutz. The weight of rifle, MPA Hybrid stock without added weighted, magazine and sling was 9.8 lbs, heavier than I expected. Add almost a pound for a scope and you have a substantial rifle.

This morning put the barreled action plus mag plus tac sling into a Grayboe Ridgeback stock and weight was 10.6 lbs. Well, sniper rifles are not meant to be light. However, before shooting the first shot will broach the subject with Vudoo of down the road making a switch barrel system. I believe Kidd followed this route. Drop a 16" light barrel or a 22" bull barrel depending on the situation. And then, dare I mention the subject, barrel longevity would never be an issue. Some may wonder if a switch barrel is as accurate as a fixed barrel but not I.

ADDED: Granted that I do not have close to a championship trigger finger, the two-stage Timney on the V-22 was the equal of the two-stage 5109 trigger on the Anschutz 54.

The bolt and the action are very well designed and manufactured.....but you need to do your part. 1st clean the entire bolt and action with a good quality CLP/Cleaner. Use a brush, clean cloth and Q-Tips to get into all of the nooks and crannies. Next wipe it all out with a clean cloth back to dry metal. Now get a quality gun grease, I use Hawg Grease and apply to the lugs and a light coat to the rear half of the bolt. Reinstall the bolt and cycle the action 10-20 times. It will make a night and day improvement and within a few hundred cycles it will be warm butter smooth. Also no matter how often you clean the bore definitely wipe off the bolt and action every few hundred rounds and relube.

As far as the CCI goes they have a thicker rim and that is why the bolt is harder to close. Either run the bolt harder or try something else. I've only felt tat tightness with CCI as well.

Update:

Took the ejector out and bolt ran fine. Back in and it hangs.

After inspection, the ejector is a hair too tall. Gonna get with Paul about a new one and probably file this one down ever so slightly.

In the pic, you will see where the bolt has been shaving the ejector down. You can also see the marks inside the bolt where it rides.

Simple fix!

Dave,
Been trying to call and sent an email. I believe I’m near your location for a couple days. Any chance you can meet up? I can square it away quickly.

MB

Just had a good convo with Mike/Ravage88.

Awesome response as always by vudoo. Even if it’s just to fix a small issue. Learned a lot in just a 10min phone call.

Vudoo for life.

Could anyone get me a true total weight on one of the following combos? If scoped, please let me know what scope you are running, so I can subtract it and add mine.

KRG Bravo with 16.5" Kukri contour

KRG Bravo with 16.5" Specter contour

Thanks!

I know its not exactly what you asked but I was curious and my rifle is pretty close. Weight of 18" kukri in KRG Bravo with: Athlon Midas Tac 6-24, Seekins rings, KRG spigot, and Harris 6-9" = 11.4 lbs. Maybe that is helpful.
