Vudoo Gun Works V-22 Rimfire Bolt Action

Do the barreled actions come with action screws and trigger pins? I just picked up my barreled action, bottom metal and spare mags and it had no trigger pins or action screws at all. I just assumed they were included.

TL,
Yessir, they do, an oversight in your case. Shoot me an email with your address and I'll get them out to you Monday....

Went to 22 USBR state match today in Ohio (mine and my V22's first real match). I was put in the unlimited class but I don't have a front rest, use bipod and rear bag.
I felt I shot ok but could definitely do better. Score was 242 and ended up first looser but was told any other day that would have won, really?
So the winner shot a 250 set a new world record. I check the USBR website when I get home and 248 was the old record set in 2015.
I really don't know anything about this benchrest stuff. @RAVAGE88 Thought the gang at VGW would like this. Sorry I didn't win. 20190907_164902.jpg20190511_190027.jpg

Good job! What ammo were you shooting?

BR accuracy without the fuggly stock.

I think you absolutely killed it. What was the pull weight on your trigger? How heavy is your Vudoo? How many BR matches have you shot in the past? The front rest the BR guys at the top level use cost more than some of my rifles. They use bag riders on their rear rest and literally create a shrink to fit on the ears. You were six points off the record when you shot the 242.

Next match I'd bet you couldn't borrow one of those rests on a bet. I think you're an absolute star. The staff at VGW are going to laugh their collective ass off when they read your post.

Sincerest congratulations.

Thanks for the kind words Quater Horse. Trigger is a 2 stage CE, not sure of pull weight but between 1-2 lbs. Rifle is 12-13 lbs. I started shooting Wednesday night bench rest a few months ago, so maybe 10 shoots. Its run a little different and with a handicap. You have to shoot same ammo and rifle every week . My handicap is turned off because it's just fun and ammo testing for me. The scoring is worst case, my average is around 1700, so not that great.
One of my better targets, think it was Center X. I'll switch ammo in middle of target sometimes. The Midas + seems to be the best so far but as said above only bought 100rds to try.

I'm actually an old archery guy that work, family and life in general got in the way of my shooting. Guns were put away in early 90"s and haven't shot any national archery 3d since 2001. Dont really want to shoot benchrest it's just local . Want to try NRL 22 and longer range stuff.

Anyone using the Vudoo single shot follower? I just ordered one as my rifle is two weeks away from being delivered
Yes, the main reason is so I don't lose count of sighter rounds vs scoring rounds in the monthly 100-200yd match I shoot. We can shoot unlimited sighters during the 10 minutes allowed for 10 rounds. The match consists of two targets for 100yds and two for 200yds, 25 points per round.

I prefer using the magazine, but there are times when I should shoot a sighter to verify a condition and don't to minimize the possibility of losing count and focus.

NOTE: The single shot adapter will not let you use the Vudoo cleaning rod bore guide.

Thanks to Jason at EuroOptic for finding me a CW 5-45 for my funny brain (CCW knobs and I dont get along) and Andy at Hawkins Precision for making a kick ass mount, my Vudoo has a new scope.

I relaxed at the range today with some friends plinking out to 300 yards.

Now to get on the stick and make a decent scope lever for this and my 5-20s.

Hoser, how close will it parallax?

I think that's a pretty impressive target, especially if you didn't have a chance to test a few lots of Midas+ to find one that shoots better than the rest.

Thanks flatland1 I am thinking now I should try to get more of that lot number. Think some dumb luck is involved in this rimfire game but I'll take it and I'm learning. Also think it helped a lot that I started with a Vudoo and didn't have to deal with all the frustration of figuring out how to fix the rifle. I know it's me or the ammo.

I used to shoot 22 alot more before I got the V22. I finally figured out why....I constantly tried this, that and the other thing to get the freaking thing to shoot to my standard. It forced me to go to the range obsessively. 2-3x a week. Since I got the vudoo, my range time has gone down dramatically. I would have thought the opposite.

I'm going to make more of an effort in the next few weeks.

Is anyone running SK Long Range Match and how is it performing compared to other flavors of 22LR?

I bought a brick a month or two ago as well to compare to several others. I was averaging .94 5 shot groups at 100 yards from a bench. Rifle Match was .98 or so.

They both ran consistently better than Center X and others I tried in the same match category.

One caveat is that at 50 yards Rifle match had better results than Long Range, whereas at 100 the opposite was true.

I also checked fps with a Magnetospeed and found the LR was really close to the sound barrier and had some rounds go supersonic. Haven't broken SS with the Rifle Match ammo yet. SD's were pretty good on both as well.

Here is a post with more info:

Good luck in your hunt!

I tested five different lots of SK LR Match out of the first shipment to reach the States early this past spring. The first four lots were a disappointment at 100yds, shooting a V-22/Krieger from prone off bipod & bag. However, the last lot was so much better in comparison that I went straight back to the house & ordered a case of it. I had some second thoughts over lunch, like "You're going to buy a full case of this new ammo based on one 10-shot group out of one rifle?" So as soon as I got home after lunch, I took both V-22s out, set up a full-size steel IPSC target at 215yds, then proceeded to shoot 10-shot strings of all five lots out of each rifle, with each & every shot passing over the sky screens of my chrono. The results on target, along with chrono data, convinced me I'd made a good decision, and after shooting this select lot of LR Match through the summer, I'm pretty satisfied with it. Will be doing testing with whatever new lots are available when I start to run low on the case I have. It's not the best ammo I've ever shot through the V-22s, but it's darned close, and at a price nearly $3/box less than a very good lot of Lapua Center-X I purchased after having a V-22 tested at the Test Center in Mesa.

What is the lowest extreme spread (ES) and standard deviation (SD) that Lapua Center-X or SK has produced for you and what do you consider to be acceptable ES and SD?

I just ran a lot test yesterday of SK Rifle Match in my Vudoo using a Magnetospeed. I purchased ammo from 3 lots that were on hand with the vendor and I had ammo from a 4th lot on hand. ES across the 4 lots was 45 (SD of 11), 33 (SD of 7), 43 (SD of 9), 38 (SD of 9). These numbers are from 50 consecutive rounds with each lot.

I haven't tried a lot test with any other Lapua products.

Not sure what's acceptable or ideal in the long run but I've read others stating that you want to be below 40 fps ES.

I tested two lots of CX recently, one had an ES of 4, the other, 7. This is why I designed the chamber around it, although I don’t see this in every lot of CX, but I find it to be more consistent. Other really strong performers are Eley Tenex, SK, RWS, etc.

Just ran outside during lunch to test one lot of Center X and one lot of Pistol King. I was hoping I tripped upon a similar lot that @RAVAGE88 mentioned! An ES of 4 or 7 sounds amazing! After the results of the lot I had on hand, the search is still on! I had no idea when I started this how much lots matter.

50 Rounds Consecutive Center X: ES 37 (9.8 SD)
50 Rounds Consecutive Pistol King: ES 38 (8.6 SD)

Finally got it bedded and test fired today. Got rained out testing much ammo but out of Center X, CCI sv, Wolf match and SK rifle I couldn’t pick a winner, they all shot great. Shot it at my smiths bullet trap at 75 yards before I left because he wanted to see how it done. Out of the gate it shot 1/2” groups at 75 yards. I haven’t reset my turrets here, I’m sure someone will notice. Lol

Is that an improvement to unbedded condition?

I never shot it unbedded. I have been told that it really doesn’t matter either way in these. Manners did recommend bedding the lug area though. It’s just easy and I don’t think it can hurt to bed it.

Took mine out for the maiden voyage yesterday (in the rain). This is the first 10 shots for zeroing at 50y with SK Standard Plus. This is already a boring gun.

Single digit SDs with the "best" ammo I could find on the shelf locally. 1049 fps and single digit SD across the chronograph. I plugged the velocity into the Kestrel, and with the new AB curves for that ammo it was spot on with drop and wind data tested out to 220y. Looking forward to shooting it during the NRL22 match on Saturday.

Well, decided to finally join the club. Been a lurker mostly, but I was also convinced to get one after a conversation with the shop. Great group of guys and gal(s?). Answered all my questions without hesitation even though, I'm sure, they answer the same ones every day.

Did some ammo testing and found wolf match extra to shoot amazing with really good ES and SDs. All high end ammo shot, give or take, the same group size with nearly the same POI to boot. Seems like I shouldn't be surprised center x shoots well. I'm sure this rifle is outshooting my current skill. I did have some feeding issues with Eley flat nose bullets, though, so those are out since this is my NRL22 gun.

Thanks Vudoo for the great product and service! Loving this rifle so far.

When you get down to the brass tacks, just how much more accurate is a Vudoo over a CZ 457 or T1X? I've seen comparable groups from those 2 rifles to a Vudoo at 50 and even 100 yards. Perhaps that is the exception and not the norm. I want to shoot 22 at 200 yards and beyond, is that where the Vudoo really starts to gain a lead? Can the other 2 keep up?

I have a CZ 455 that has been Re-barreled trigger work pillar bedded bolt worked on. Now it shoots very well still not as consistent as the Vudoo at any range. I also have a Kidd Supergrade that run neck and neck with the CZ 455 out to 300 yards. The Vudoo is very consistent and not as ammo picky as the other two. I’m more accurate with the Vudoo at all distances and it definitely noticeable. I have shot those three side by side with the ammo they like. I shoot better scores with the Vudoo.

I have a Tikka T1X with a few thousand rounds through it now, and also been contemplating around a Vudoo. I shoot with people who own Vudoos in multiple rimfire competitions. Same with people who own nice $3000 Anshutz rifles as well.

I think it comes down to what you exactly want to do with it. If you're competing in say NRL22 type matches, then I don't think it matters. As all the targets are going to be 1moa to 1.5moa and a Tikka T1X / CZ457 will do that.

If you are doing benchrest shooting, there's going to be better things across the board. If you want a do-it-all rifle, with the focus of maximizing precision at 200+ yards, then yeh maybe the Vudoo would meet that bar. When you say things are "comparable" there still is a precision advantage to the Vudoos that are tuned and made to very high tolerances, and made around center-x. Vudoos generally I'd say with good ammo and a good shooter, shot about 1/2" at 100. Whereas CZ457/Tikka's, probably around 3/4". Group sizes usually open up by 3x, so at 200 yards, a Vudoo would be around 1.5", and a Tikka, would be around 2.5", and could expand more. Rimfire ammo has its own limits too, as the ES spread really are the ones driving the large vertical groups at 200+

I was about to buy a Vudoo, but all I shoot now is PRS like matches with rimfire, and my Tikka is perfectly fine. If I really wanted to push it, I'd invest in an upgraded chassis with all the gadgets and whistles, nicer bags, and a nicer scope. But in terms of rifle precision, never blamed the rifle on a missed shot.

Here’s my current perspective based upon months of reading and recent personal experience. I was using a tricked out Ruger 10/22 as my NRL22 rifle. It was surprisingly accurate and is super fun to shoot and I’ve shot some matches well with it. I have friends running about every flavor of 22LR at the local NRL22 matches, and I’ve spent time seriously considering Ruger, CZ, Savage, and Tikka offerings and I’ve shot most of them. I’ve seen many that are so neck in neck in accuracy to Vudoo that it wouldn’t help or hinder me shooting matches.

in my opinion, that is the “brass tax” regarding accuracy.

I find the key value of the Vudoo platform and the main reason I chose this platform was to replicate my center fire. I shot a bunch of centerfire matches this summer and am really satisfied with me rifle setup. I’ve been planning to build a trainer in 308 or 223, but choose to go 22LR instead. After shooting my first match this weekend with the Vudoo it was immediately familiar and I can tell this will help my centerfire game. And, I don’t have to reload ammo...the time savings is priceless.

in my opinion, that is the “brass tax” regarding overall value.

If you want a 22LR tack driver, I’m sure there are less expensive options. If you want a true centerfire trainer, I’m not sure one could find a better value.

I came from an MPA cz455 in a chassis. I like it but I can say it is not on the same level as a vudoo, in my opinion. First is bolt release, you cant run a low trigger weight or the bolt will randomly exit the action when cycling it. I run a Timney trigger and it has happened two or three times to me on a stage. Really messes with your head. Second is trigger options. I can run a triggertech on the vudoo. Third is overall consistency, which I think comes more from the feeding method vs build quality. I have chambered and extracted a bunch on my CZ and found that any little tiny hiccup in feeding, especially momentary little catches while manipulating the bolt forward has a tendency to slightly dent or nick the bullet. This leads to fliers. The MPAs build quality is no less than the vudoo, it's just they are building off the CZ factory action and its feeding design. Finally, for me, I can have a nearly identical center fire trainer including chassis and trigger. Ok final final - maybe not really as relevant, but they look cool as fuck.

I had a CZ452 before my V22. First thing was trigger. I have a Timney CE single stage on it, same as my other rifles. Consistency is significantly higher than the CZ. The CZ would randomly have flyers, happened with every ammo I tried. Even with other shooters. Feeding with the CZ was good 95% of the time. I could still get groups with the right ammo, but there was always that flyer that was going to pop up and piss me off. Yeah in a PRS match I still would have most likely made a hit. But I couldn't mag swap that gun worth a crap, so I was significantly handicapped in that respect with the CZ. Along with having to juggle the bolt occasionally to get it to feed. The kids are getting Tikkas for Christmas. I'd love to buy a couple more Vudoos, but not this year. I think the Tikka is slightly ahead of the CZ, the Vudoo just has the additional custom gun refinement.
