Go to school, return, get your hands on your weapons at the unit in training, find out if you want a bolt gun or a self loader like the M110, and go from there.
For affordable, if you can stand the LENGTHY wait, the RRA Predator HP is a 20" AR10 (STYLE) rifle that is pretty affordable and guaranteed under 1MOA. A Leupold to match your SASS would be ideal- maybe you can get into promotive.com's tactical instructor or other program through networking and get a better price.
If you like a bolt gun, something along those lines would be like a Savage 110FCP HS Precision .300 win mag (rumored to be comming to the Savage line soon) 5/8x24 threaded std for a brake or sound suppressor and scoped with something similar to the issue. I never used the newer .300 Win mag rifle so I'm trying to suggest something affordable that will also be .300 win mag and suppressor ready, as the Remington rifle is probably not affordable.
Civilians can't help but be PC, so you've probably gathered by now they want to read "precision rifle".
Well it's fairly natural for builders to have hammers at home, race car drivers to drive sportscars for fun, for infantryman to buy M4's, and for snipers to buy scoped rifles.
If you go and successfully complete school, that's a big deal in my book. You have to eat a mountain of shit, run faster, ruck harder, shoot straighter and soldier better for years to be noticed and given the nodd to attend in a lot of cases, and the guys that are good will pass and hope to be fielded by an officer who has brains and wherewithal to use them to make a difference. No one can take that away.
