As was explained to me by some Hydro employees at apprenticeship school (many years ago) the few coal generating plants that we had/have start the process by coking the coal. They showed the schematics of the many many heat-exchangers, through the multi-stage process. It was quite incredible how the heat was recycled, used for many interchanges, and process'.

And if memory serves, the coked coal produces nearly exponentially larger BTU's. Far better efficiency generating from coal/coke than it was/is from 12 and 16 cylinder diesel gen-sets that are STILL running to this day in so many remote locations in this province.

Also, Pat Buchanan (who I thought was a never-Trumper, but may have turned the corner...) pointed out -- quite rightly, I believe -- that what we are seeing with Kavanaugh is the playbook for how the Dems plan to impeach Trump if the House and/or Senate fall in November.

The good news is that this nightmare for Kavanaugh is showing how the far left operates... and middle America does not like it. Are there enough zealots to win in November? Not if middle America votes.

A greenhouse gas is a gas that acts as an insulator in the earths atmosphere. Sunlight is absorbed into the earth but a lot is reflected from the oceans. Greenhouse gasses will then trap that sunlight after its been reflected. More greenhouse gases results in warmer temperatures. This is grade school shit.
The issue is not that those cyclical changes happen. The issue is that the Rate of Change has been quickened.
It really comes down to this. Will the increased rate of change of temperature cause food insecurity throughout the world? Plants may not be able adapt fast enough and there's only so much genetic engineering we can do for plants to become hardy.

Gold & silver are good to have some of. But you need to understand what they can and cannot do.

Gold & Silver are a great way to store value/wealth to move it through time, from one stable economic period, through a very bad patch, to the next stable economic period. It's a hedge to give you some spending capital in the next order after your spending money gets liquidated by the government in the first order.

In an actual event where things are really bad, the price of basic necessities may be way more valuable than you anticipate & you will be better off having the actual goods you need rather than planning to be able to buy them.

I would suggest however that carrying a bit of silver / gold is not a bad thing as if you run across someone well supplied or stable, they may be willing to trade for that / do something you want for that.

Silver and Gold are actually down a fair bit right now, so by all means pick up a little bit to have some, but I'd say only after you have a good stock of several months worth of food and supplies, generator, gasoline, Guns, lots of ammo, body armour, night vision, solar, radio, etc. All the stuff you need to actually survive first.

To add the Veer’s comment - dollar stores are your friend. You can pick up cheap first aid supplies, toilet paper and tooth paste. NEVER underestimate tooth paste and TP when things get tight and always keep good first aid supplies handy.

Another place to consider is fish stores. Many of the meds used for fish, such as antibiotics, are applicable for people and do not need a prescription.

Based on your statements, I'd suggest also investing in at least one good NV setup and if possible at least one good thermal setup.
When times are bad and lots of dark hours, having that may mean the difference between surviving or not.

They're essentially blackmailing us to move to solar (and then charging us for "maintenance" to allow power to go back into the grid), by having this pricing tier system. It initially went after just the affluent, but then they all move to solar, so the utility companies are now going after the middle class. Our peak electric bill this summer was $635 a month. Let that sink in for a moment...
