One thing I like about shooting is that it is a sober activity, but that doesn’t make me a teetotaler. I’m weening myself off of high dollar scotches right now by drinking Wild Turkey. What’s your poison?

Trying out some George Dickel 12. Never heard of it before. It's not half bad or expensive.
Bourbon, Rye and Gin...pour them all in a shaker and shake with ice. Pour in a coupe and voila
In all honesty, I do like Bourbon the most followed by Gin and then rye. Can't say much about scotch though but I get why people like it.

Among bourbons, I really like Basil Hayden Dark Rye. A bit hard to find though.
Strawberry Chocolate Milk or Chai Latte!!!! =D I used to drink a ton when I was young and dumb.. now I barely drink!... I will have a margarita, moscoto, or a hard apple cider from time to time.. on a super wild and crazy night I may have 2!!!!! =P

For gin I was splurging on Martin Miller, and then learned that I like Zephyr a little better, but it’s not cheap either. Among the white liqors, my budget buy is Luksusowa. Don’t get me started on Tequila. Patron Silver is my budget buy. Don Julio 1942 is my favorite. I drink it neat.
I've tried most every gin out there. I drink it on the rocks. The two I listed are the best I have had. There are a couple of others like Brooklyn. I have a bottle of Navy strength Plymouth coming. It is 114 proof...yowsir! Hopefully I don't like it...LOL.
I don't drink tequila anymore as it brings bad Nik out and no-one wants that....most of all me

In fact, I’m drinking it now. I’ve tried others that are supposedly the best, like Zacapa, but they are all too sweet for me. Santa Theresa is just right.

I'm a bourbon guy... my favorite by far is Blanton's Single Barrel. Also like 4 Roses, both single barrel and small batch, Angel's Envy and Blade & Bow....
I like rum as well both straight and, of course, tiki style. I make a hell of a MaiTai and Zombie. I will have to check out Santa Theresa. My favorite is Havana Club 7. Being Cuban, I cant buy it here but I pick up a couple of bottles when in Europe on business. Zacapa tastes awful to me.
I have some 4 roses in the cabinet. Most bourbons, and some scotches, are very oaky, which hits me like a mouthful of black pepper. I realize that most of the scotches that I like are also acquired tastes. I go fir sherry bombs. Lafavulin 16 is my current fav, and I like bunnahabhain 18 when I’m not looking fir that smoky peat flavor. But Im trying to wean off of them so I can retire by 50.
Could be worse...you could have a taste for cognac or fine wine.
I don’t know for sure, but a guy that gets paid to advise people on rum told me that all the best rum comes from central and South America because when they need sugar cane, they just step outside and cut it and make a batch with fresh cane. Other areas have the cut cane shipped in and use dried out sugar cane. I will say that I like Santa Theresa, Plantation rum, fleur de Cana, and J Wray, in that order. I don’t think I’ve tried Havana Club though.
Too late. But I found Presidents brandy, which is made using the Solera method, and it is inexpensive. As fir wine, I think that’s a lost cause. I got into the $50 a bottle range and now I’m spoiled. I figured out how to clone many a pricey scotch using mixtures of whiskey, sherry, and port, but wine is a different story. There are some less expensive wines that I can stomach, but a good nose, mouth, and strong finish without acid is just pricey. Usually I just settle for trig point. It doesn’t have that strong finish, but at least there’s nothing offensive about it.
Pappy's Van winkle when available but my true love is fine Cognac. Unfortunately, fine cognac starts at about $160 a bottle and goes up rapidly. The bottle in the photo is around $2500-$3000.
Are you speaking of 'El Presidente' brandy from Mexico? If so try the next step up in the line, don Pedro.
That is a one of the greatest ripoffs known in the industry. Nothing like getting fleeced because of the baccarat crystal bottle. Louis XIII is good but nowhere near that good. If you want to spend that kind of money but for what is in the bottle versus the bottle, let me know.
My colleagues are all about the pappy, but I haven’t tried it yet. The priciest cognac I’ve tried is not that pricey.
I like Burbon and cask aged Tequilas usually at least two years old.
But I rarely drink because it turns out it actually is poison to me and I would like to keep my liver healthy.
It sucks because I enjoyed drinking even though I never drank too much, over my adult life I probably averaged 5-6 drinks a week before I mostly quit.

AIAW has a nice selection going on. I could live with that as my only options.

My go-to bourbon is Maker's Mark. Excellent and not over-priced. Besides that, my regular rotation includes Bulleit, Buffalo Trace, and a new favorite - Wild Turkey Longbranch. I understand that Matthew McConaughey was involved in the development. Whatever...I don't know what he is supposed to know about it, but I have to say - I haven't found a Wild Turkey product I really liked before, but this is good stuff! Crown Royal Reserve. On the rocks or straight depending on the season. Only pull out a bottle for special occasions with family or close friends. All my drinking buddies are spread from Thailand to Maine now so we only get together once and a great while.
I'm not a fan of Bulleit. It's been a long time but I remember it being too sweet.
I bought a bottle after I tried it in a speakeasy but it was disappointing.
I tried Knob Creek after that because machine guns and it is much better.
If I remember my research it's a Bourbon made by Buffalo Trace distillery, same as Pappy Van Winkle, so they know how to make really good Bourbon (although Pappy is blended and small batch Knob Creek is single barrel I think).
I've tried a few other Bourbons, nothing too fancy or expensive, but I always go back to Knob Creek because when I do drink, I don't want to waste the chance on something I might not like.

I agree, it was just for the photo. for a good 'reasonably priced' Cognac I go to Pierre Ferrand. Hine Triumph is good as well.
I really like the reserve and the regular in a Manhattan. The reserve really makes it smooth.
I always pick up a couple bottles when I travel too. Definitely one of my favorites although Im more of a classic daquiri type. Family got sidetracked in Cuba a few decades moving here from Spain. Agree on the Zacapa. A rum from Belize called 5 Barrel is also a favorite I cant get here. There lower grade 1 Barrel is and is good for mixing though.

I hate that Bourbon is so popular now. It's all I've drank for about thirty years, and I remember when I'd bring a bottle to a party and I was the only one drinking it. Now you bring a bottle and it's gone before you're have a third drink.
The first couple of years of Even Williams Single Barrel were incredible. It was like a $100 bottle for $14. Now it sucks. I don't know what happened, but it shit the bed.
I keep a bottle of Jefferson Reserve for my own consumption, but have most of them in the cabinet.

My drink of choice is a Manhattan with Bulleit Rye as the base. If I am drinking another spirit, it is typically with one ice cube and nothing nelse. I like El Dorado 15yr for rum, Germain Robin XO brandy, Clase Azule Reposado tequila and an unchillfiltered Highland park single malt. Redbreast is a great Irish wiskey too.

I actually prefer to use batrachotoxin on motherfuckers, but it's been hard to get so I've just been going with brodifacoum because it is effective like strychnine but harder to detect in the post mortem...
I hear you on the reflux. Had it bad...constant burn and on bad evenings even cough up blood.
I stopped drinking for a couple of months and relegated myself to not drinking anymore. However, my doctor told me....
- Don't drink like I used to. The reflux was bad but the blackouts were worse. I stopped having anymore than 3 drinks on any given evening. That was the biggest struggle for me. If I am at home with the Mrs. no problem and never was but if I am out and about...lord have mercy.
- Don't eat or drink ANYTHING but water for 3 hours before you go to bed. Eating compounds the problem tremendously and I was unknowingly doing that. Eating for me was the key to a long night of drinking.
- In my case, no more than a glass of red wine per evening (5 oz) glass. Red wine is what hurts me the most.
- Stay away from sweet drinks....
I can now enjoy a drink and not worry about it.

Damn, you definitely had it worse than me. I got mine under control with the help of a Doctor, but chose not to drink (at least not very often) going forward. Once I had the heartburn / reflux squared away, now I go right to hangover and headache after more than one drink. I still enjoy a good dark beer once or possible twice a year.
I used to really like the taste of good liquor so I probably overdid it and did so for many years.
I like the way it is now. Much less drinking, no blackouts and no reflux.

While I won't deny that I've been curious about what this stuff tastes like (for ~30 years...) I've never had the money to 'throw away' on a bottle that stupidly expensive. At the same time, I am also curious about what you are suggesting is "as good/better"? for a less insane price?
Ya'll gotta realize that up here in Canada (1 hour south of the Seagram's Distillery where they make the Crown Royal that ya'll cherish and I find boring) our selection of booze is a LOT smaller than yours, and a LOT more costly than yours. So no, I'm not afraid to admit that my palate is limited and my education is stunted.
Willing to learn though, by all means,,,, willing to learn. As well as "go back for a second opinion", Heh.

On a completely other note, I've never once understood why people mix their booze with something, let alone something 'sweet'. It just totally confounds me why so many others need to have "candy drinks". For me it has always been either 'straight' or with a bit of branch-water mixed in.
Leave the 'sweet' and the 'coconuts' for your grass skirts, in my opinion. But yeah, nobody asked, right?
