I used a piloted range rod to indicate the barrel in with but never let anything spin in the bore. You'll have to cut the last .500" or so off the end of your barrel and start over to get rid of those marks. If you’re careful when working on other peoples rifles, you can even save the original finish as shown here. This is the same type job you had done. Threaded 5/8x24 Class 3A with thread protector.
