With so many available its difficult to make a choice. Post which one you like best and why. I am not running a can or NVD. I just want the stick to be flat and move as little as possible.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I had a POF 2 chamber brake that worked really well, I believe the ones they are making now have 3 ports/chambers,
Battlecomp makes a really good one, that is my next purchase, but if you cant find one of those PWS, and JP makes a good one as well. Check out www.nokick.com they have a pretty good selection for sale.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I've got a SureFire MB556K and it works well. Although I will point out that the concussion and flash signature can be highly irritating to the shooter and others around. Also, when shooting in low-light/no-light, I've found that the flash will 'reset' your acquired night vision, which is rather annoying. If eliminating rise and recoil is what you're after, and you do most of your shooting during the day, then I'd highly recommend this brake.

Here's my example: Click here

I have all three. Depends on the application though. The battle comp and POF are great for almost all applications of an ar-15 (plus the battlecomp is a great alternative to the Triple tap, if you have the cash to blow it wouldnt hurt to try out the triple tap by KAC).

As for PWS I like their CQB comp on a 7.62 10 inch SBR.

Once again situation dictates.

Choose wisely.

If you give more info on what application you intend on using this for I'm confident you will get a lot more feedback that will be tailored to your specific uses.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

Battle comp 2.0

Without a doubt, the best recoil reduction comp i have ever had. it doesn’t add excess wait either. its a bit spendy, but its totally worth it!

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I like the PWS a lot. Works great. Buddy of mine uses a knights enhanced compensator kit on his and its fantastic but really expensive. My PWS was a quarter of the price and performs almost as well

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

POF308 = 308 Titan
Daniel Defense M4V1 = Battle comp 2.0
Noveske SPR 5.56 = Surefire mb556ar

they all work awesome but check this out. on my other Daniel Defense carbine (7lbs 1 oz / empty mag aimpoint T1)all i have is a vortex flash hider but put a T3 spikes tactical buffer and it shoots like I just placed a muzzle brake on it.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

A big thing for me is I don't like blow-back from brakes. Had an FSC556 and did not like the blow-back. I went with an AAC Breakout Comp on one of my guns and works decent (but I'm setting up for a suppressor down the road). I've heard great things about the BattleComp too.. will be putting a 1.5 on my 14.5" build. Breaks bring lots of noise too, so keep that in mind. The BattleComp seems to be a jack of all trades and a master of none.. which is a good thing in my book.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I have a PWS on my AR10 and it really tames the recoil down, there is no hoping, bouncing etc, just a little rearward push but not enough to loose the target during recoil. On the other hand, it is really loud and obnoctious to the folks right next to me or so i was told.
hope this helps.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I have a PRI QC on a 6.8 upper that i love. Works great. The problem is my wife is falling in love with my new 6.8 upper, i think i need a less effective brake. More recoil would steer her away from my new toy. :)

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I was using the PWS FSC30 and liked everything about it except the ghastly ground signature aka blowback. I swapped it out for a PWS PRC (precision rifle compensator) and it's much better than the FSC30.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

Where are all the guys saying ” You need to man up” if you are putting a brake on anything that isn't bigger than a .308?

I guess you know that because you're speaking from personal experience, after having tried them all...right?

As an owner of a Triple Tap on my SR-15 I can speak from personal experience and report to the OP that it greatly diminished muzzle rise. Have I tried them all? Of course not. That is why I posted the link that I did so the OP can avail himself to the numerous reviews that all seem to confirm that this is one exceptional (albeit very pricey) muzzle brake.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I'm a fan of the PWS FSC556, what I have on my carbine.

When I shoot it from supported standing (with glass mind you), it's a world of difference to me (at least) to an A2 birdcage. It didn't push down at all. Just moved around a little and 'bang'. Follow up was far easier, even though it was just at 100 yards.

Hope this helps.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I just ordered the PWS to put on my 5.56 from everything I have researched about them and will let you know what my results are in a couple of weeks. They are supposed to be back on target very quickly. See the various videos with a google search...

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I'm also a fan of the PWS brakes. I've run the 556 on a 7" and 10.5" SBR...and the 30 cal brake on a 16" LR-308. I would describe them as "concussive" in nature to the shooter but very effective in recoil management. If purely for bench work I can't say I've fired an any more effective brake than a JP Recoil Eliminator. Not the prettiest piece of kit but tames anything. The large tank brake design is every effective. My .308 shooting heavy loads is less enjoyable than the stock Armalite AR-50. They just work.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

OK if you want ZERO muzzle movement this is what you need to do.

Call JP and order a LMOS, Low Mass Operating System. It is a system more than anything, adjustable gas block, low mass bolt carrier, low mass buffer, extra power spring.

Once youve ordered the stuff from JP call Chris Patty at CPWSA and tell him that you need an SJC Titan brake.

Pull your flash hider currently in use, pull gas block, install JO block, install Titan brake. Pull bolt out of standard bolt carrier and install bolt in JP low mass carrier, pull standard buffer and spring and install JP buffer and extra power spring.

Now go to range and find the shittiest ammo that you plan to shoot. Adjust gas block to where shittiest ammo still runs in gun and call it a day.

You will thank me later.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

+1 for the Rainer XTC, I have one and love it. I have never tried a PWS but it was my next choice but all the reviews said the XTC worked almost exactly the same and is half the price.

I agree........ putting a brake on a .223.... is it really needed....??? for the recoil... now if you`re shooting prairie dogs and what to see the shot hit....i had one on mine....
Keep in mind adding a muzzle brake/silencer can change harmonics in barrel and affect accuracy....

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I really enjoy running a battlecomp on my ar. It greatly reduces muzzle rise and recoil, especially on a mid lenght gun. In my opinion, follow up shots are easiler with the battlecomp vs. The standard birdcage. If possible, try a few so you can make a decision based on your wants and needs.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

Every brake is going to be different, because everyone's perception of felt recoil is different (based upon the person's build, how they hold the gun, the gun itself, etc.). There is no "best".

I have a Surefire on my AR15 and a JP Cooley on my AR10 and both work very well.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

shooting without a suppressor, my PWS556 hands down. I love my 14.5 middy upper with the pinned PWS, its hands down awesome. The recoil reduction on this thing is ridiculous making speed drills go a lot faster and more accurately too.

I will admit like any good muzzle break it directs the blast out to the sides, so people on the sides of you get the concussion much like all the other muzzle breaks. But this one, well as my friend put it "its like you can feel your arm hair flinch".

What I also like about it is its a pretty good full auto break, the top of the break, when put on the barrel and timed correctly is more narrow than the bottom of the break thus allowing more upwards expansion of gasses and helping tame muzzle rise.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I like the battle comp. I had a FSC556 and it was obnoxious. I have a Smith comp, and I get heavy flash in my optic with certain ammo. The Battle comp is the best all around I've used so far. Have yet to use a SF, but would love to try one.

Re: What brake does everyone like best on an ar-15?

I'm running a Rainer Arms XTC on my 20" AR, made a big difference. My 20" is a build I just finished so I stuck a standard A2 flash suppressor on it until I figured out what I really wanted. With the Rainer on it, I can actually see the strike take place at 100yds so it makes a noticeable difference and I really couldn't tell any difference in the noise level either.

I ended up buying the SF and it is a great brake.

SF is the first brake and PWS is the second.
