What Sling do you Use? (GAP 10 / AR Style Rifle)

Your kidding me right? Weight wise both of the rifles I referenced are similar to a GAP-10 and thats what we are talking about here. Understood a SCAR doesn't have the same accuracy but we are talking about taking it through the woods and hiking. You are picking the one thing I casually referenced and using if for why I'm wrong. You are the one not talking about the OPs request, talking about matches when he's hiking with the rifle.

A SCAR 17 is 7.9lbs empty without optics, a GAP10 is noticeably more weight- add optics and you're easily over 14 lbs.

Understood, What I am talking about weighs about 11 (just under) pounds without optics. Not sure how much you are mentally adding for optics (lets say two pounds) and atlas bipod and we are talking around 14lbs as well. Still not sure how a VTAC two point can't support that kind of weight.

I have used a TIS Quick-Cuff-

Triad Tactical, Inc.*::*Tactical Intervention Specialists Quick Cuff

in the past and have recently switched over to a TIS AR Slip-Cuff-

Triad Tactical, Inc.*::*Tactical Intervention Specialists AR Slip Cuff

that I am using on a 16" 7.62 OBR. I prefer the Slip-Cuff because it is simple to get into and out of, I do not have to worry about the extra bicep strap moving around, it carries the rifle like a regular 2 point sling and there is no velcro or clips to deal with.

Anyone have one of the new improved VTAC slings? I picked one up and like it ever more than the original. It has metal buckles now, a rubberized pull-tab for the sling tail, and elastic sleeves to go over the buckles. You can coil up the excess sling and tuck it into the elastic sleeve to keep everything nice and neat. It feels like it's made of a better quality, stronger material too.

I see a bunch of people recommending the Padded VTAC... Will I need to buy an adapter as I have a Magpul PRS stock. Looks like the butt strap would interfere with the PRS articulations.

I use this on a PRS stock with Vtac 2pt:

If you do a lot more walking while carrying the rifle slung, you might consider one of the triple strap slings. When in the compact/short form, the sling is the same length as a sling you use to brace for shooting, but there are three straps that overlap each other. When you will be walking, or carrying the rifle, you let out the extra webbing, and the sling becomes two very long straps so you can put one over each shoulder allowing you to carry the rifle like a backpack. This wouldn't be any good for quick deployment because once you take the rifle off your shoulders, you have to pull the sling back to the short mode before you can use it to brace properly for shooting.

I found a sling like this years ago in a gun shop, and have never seen them anywhere since. Although it was only made out of 1 inch webbing, I thought it was such a neat idea that I bought one, and have made a number of them for many of my rifles. The downside is that for this system to work, you need to sew the two sling swivels into the strap. Then, it requires two sliders and a specific way of threading what is about 8-10 feet of webbing through the sliders and your sling swivels.

What do you need to mount the VTAC 2-point on a GAP-10 with Magpul PRS stock? Is was thinking about getting VTAC L.U.S.A. For mounting the VTAC sling but do I two? I haven't received my GAP-10 yet and I can tell what is needed to mount the sling.

Vickers VCAS padded is my absolute favorite. VTAC is a runner up. The Vickers adjustment mechanism is just really slick. Also happy with Spec-Ops brand padded two point slings. None of these are Garand-style shooting slings if that's what you're looking for.

I learned to shoot N/M Highpower comp using a Garand with a cotton Garand sling. It's the same style sling I used for carting around my M-14 for over a year in 'Nam, and that rifle never left my sight. Just works, period; and that's a helluva compliment coming from a Marine who had to cohabitate with an M-14 in 'Nam (was closer to that 11.34lb hunk of wood and steel than most guys are to their wives these days).

If a rifle of mine wears a sling these days, it's a cotton Garand Sling, going on well over a dozen currently. There are three incoming shipping from Amazon as I type today, for my three 'Improved' Mosin-Nagant 91/30's.

I have one of my own manufacture. Its a convertible two-point to one-point. Adjusts quickly for snugging it up. Quick disconnect for conversion from two to one.

Am I the only guy here that loves a 3-point? I find them very versatile and pretty comfortable when adjusted right. On my Recce rifle I run a Blackhawk! similar to the one demonstrated in this video:

I used to make my own 3-point slings with a Fastex buckle for adjustment and QD. The Blackhawk 3-point sling will work out of adjustment on you with the tri-glide, and 3-point slings have major issues with entanglement, as well as interference with the controls or ejection of AR15 or similar self-loading rifles. For a heavy gun, they especially suck. I used one on my M4's and Para-SAW's for a while when I was in LRS, 25th ID, and the 82nd, and it was nothing but problems for me. We didn't have a good sling selection back then, and 2-point Quick-Adjust Slings have since become the dominant sling design because they actually do what we were trying to get 3-point slings to do, but never could.

Hey Guys,

Got my GAP 10 in the mail. I've heard a bunch of different opinions on slings. Trying to figure out what will be the best for my use.

What do you guys use?

I typically will be using mine for hunting while walking / hiking. And also some range use.

Single point? 2 Point?

Thoughts?

So what did you wind up using and how did you attach it, I bought a Vtac for mine but now I realize connecting it to the GAP with PRS is a whole different question
