Is there a decent scope at a reasonable price that doesn't look blurry, have huge amounts of C.A. and is repeatable? Hopefully NOT made in China!

If you are recommending a scope can you let me know if you own it? I own some Nikon binos and they have terrible chromatic aberration (purple fringing). I would like a scope with sharp edges and NO purple fringing as well as repeatable.

Whats everyone running on their 22 rifles?

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

I put a Pride Fowler 3-9x .22lr scope on my 10/22 last year. Great scope, it has a BDC reticle for .22 40 gr rounds out to 200m. I’ve been very happy with mine, but they do run a little over $300.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

If you are recommending a scope can you let me know if you own it? I own some Nikon binos and they have terrible chromatic aberration (purple fringing).

A white target against a darker background will have bad purple fringing with cheap scopes. I am looking for a scope that has little or no purple fringing. I may not be something that is possible in this price range.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

I use a Leupold VX-3 on my CZ 455. I like the classic look of it; I felt that a scope with tactical turrets would look out of place on a walnut-stocked hunting rifle. The image is very sharp at .22LR ranges, though I do wish the parallax was set for 25 or 50yds rather than 100 (this is done in some of their dedicated rimfire scopes, though I didn't like their other features).

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

For $150 after rebate I like the Bushnell Legend Ultra-HD. I just bought the 3-9x 40mm one. Decent glass, side parallax adj down to 10yds, fully multi-coated lens with rainguard coating, not to long and heavy, and the eye relief/eyebox is not to critical.

SWFA SS 10x.

I have one on my Savage TR. Decent glass, reasonably priced at $300 (although I'm sure you could find a used one for well under that), and good tracking with just the right amount of magnification for me.

I'm using the weaver 3-10x40 Mil/Mil on my CZ452 Varmint/Trainer.

I run a NF on my trainer. You might be asking for a lot for $200.. The China obstacle will be a tough one.

I have an NF here (3x15). How the heck did you mount it?

I'll have to get my binos out of the safe this weekend. I don't recall having any issues with my Nikon's at all.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

i'm using a swfa ss10x42 and really like it. i got the sidefocus version, but the rear focus can be had new for $300, or you can find them on here used from time to time.

I have a one-piece rail for my 452 heavy barrel. You can find them fairly easily - here is one example:

In terms of low $ scopes I have the Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32. Great scope/glass for the $. Still have one on my 10-22 but sold the other because I wanted matching reticle/turrets.

I now use a Vortex 5-15x44 mildot on my 452 trainer. Midway had them for a time at $399

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

My trainer has a 3.5-15x56. Mounted in Badger medium rings. The rifle is a Rem 541T.
I also have a older Simmons Aztec (sp) and it is a excellent scope in that price range.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

I've used the base Bushnell scope made for .22 rimfires and it served its purpose very well. Bought it locally for somewhere around $50. I know that seems cheap but for a standard scope (plex reticle, 1/4 moa non exposed turrets) it was fantastic. I zeroed at 50 yds and just used holds for anything beyond that but with a .22 you're not going to be going out to far.

Sold the .22 it was on but still have the scope if your interested.

what do you consider to far? im fairly consistant with my 22lr at 400 yards and have made hits at 500 but they are not all that consistant (50/50)

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

I run Zeiss Conquests on 2 of my CZs. Great glass for the money, but not $200-250 either. Mine are mildot, target turrets, side focus (down to 30yds), but you can get cheaper ones. Here is one on my trainer:

4-500 is about the furthest I would take it. Never got into distance shooting with 22lr. I just used 22s for plinking out to 200yds.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

Put a Luppy 3X9 Mark 2 on my CZ 452. Good glass, dials great and with the mill retical can get out to 400 yd. Think I paid $400 for it. Nice lite package.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

I like the Burris FF2 4.5-14x42 on my CZ453. The Bushnell 3200 10x40 mil/mil from Midway is $199 and you can get a $75 rebate on the Elite line for the next month. It would make a good $125 practice scope if mil/mil is your centerfire set-up. Burris FF2 made in Philippines and Bushnell 3200 in Japan. Glass quality pretty similar.

Re: Whats a decent rimfire scope (cz 452 rifle)

CZ 455 American, DIP rail 25moa extended, Acculock .886 rings, Viper PST 4-16x50 SFP EBR1-MOA. (Scope is made in Philippines.) The image quality is not on par with the Conquest but it is still very good with little to no edge distortion or chromatic issues. The PST has the zero-stop and illuminated reticle which is nice, PA adjusts down to 50yards.

Prior to this I had a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 sidefocus A.O. with ring reducers but changed it out due to internal travel being limited, had FCH, and other than that the Conquest is an outstanding piece of glass. I would probably have kept it if it had the RapidZ reticle. This scope now resides on a 18" Nordic NC-22 upper with a Geissele triggered dedicated lower.

If you need a scope that goes down to 10m then look at the Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 A.O. 1" tube and the BDC reticle, this has a good reputation with spring-ram airgun folk for durability and repeatability.

USO SN-3 3.8-22x44 ERGO custom build... Would have been really nice but $3200 is a little out of my Budget for a .22 Trainer scope...

What "Opticspecialist" said - Burris Timberline 3-9X.

Yeah, it's $249. at Midway but the extra $49. above your budget buys you a lifetime warranty and good glass. I have a Burris Black Diamond and it is absolutly excellent. I also have a Burris Fullfield which also has very good optics. The optics in the Fullfield and Timberline are, according to a Burris rep I talked to, of equal quality and identically coated.

Heck, I have a little Simmons variable on my prized Ruger 96/22 mag and it has been very good, with repeatable turret adjustments. (Not that I'm actually recommending you get a Simmons.) But I'd "druther" have the Burris Timberline.

FM has worked great for me. I have one on my 22 trainer and I dial it a lot.
