Looking past 1x low end optics and broadening my horizons. Looking for recommendations on scope with 1.5-2 power low end, and over 8x high end. I am also looking for good locking turrets (capped works, but prefer locking), big objective (40 or bigger), and a not finnicky eye box. Basically, I want a 1-8 atacr with a really big obj lens and adjustable parallax, but it doesn't exist, so I'd like to try a 1.5-10 x 44 or something along those lines with an offset red dot for cqm.

New hotness? You want something with maybe more than 1x, but definitely not "high mag" on the low end, but 8x or more on the high end? Not stuck on 1x, but big objective bell? Well a 3-9x44 is your baby. Definitely new hotness...

OP, you haven't given a price range you're looking for and whether it needs to be SFP or FFP

If by "new hotness" you're asking what new scopes have been introduced then take a look at the March 1.5-15x42mm SFP Compact https://marchscopes.com/news/3612/ it is SFP and should be out sometime this summer hopefully, those who saw it at SHOT thought it was pretty impressive for such a short scope. Another fantastic SFP option that are available today are the Leica Magnus 1.5-10x42 and the 1.8-12x50 options and the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 has always been a fan favorite. If you want FFP then your options are limited, the Burris XTR II 2-10x42 has had great feedback for what it offers for the price.

I have great difficulty recommending the Nightforce NX8 2.5-20 because it suffers from considerable edge distortion, poor DOF and finicky parallax and eyebox but it does have an awesome magnification range and the NF name.

EDIT: Moved the NXS into the SFP section

They almost never do. No budget, no technical requirements, usually some variation on “what is best?”. It is the norm with these threads/OPs, unfortunately.

Thats why I always give the most expensive option I can think of. it usually gets their attention and they end up posting some better info to help us help them.

It is amazing how many people get personally offended when they ask what the best is and end up with TT, S&B, or ZCO recommendations.

If all you are looking for is an oversized atacr 1-8x the Eotech vudu 2.5-10x44 is practically a youth baseball bat...

But we really need more information about what you are going to use this for and at what price.

Vortex just came out with the 1 to 10 razor that's supposed to be pretty nice
Dude, I'll hold final judgement til I see it, but there's no way that thing doesn't suck ha. I haven't looked through a 1-8 or 1-10 where the 1x is even close to as good as a 1-6 sfp so I'm gonna try out not using the dayscope for cqm and just going with laser/offset dot for cqm and the day scope for everything else. No adjustable parallax really neuters the 10x too.

To the nerds in this thread, I have no budget. If you must have one, I'll spend 5k on a good scope. I was pretty clear with the parameters: 1.5-2x low end, over 8x high end, around 40mm obj, adjustable parallax, locking or capped turrets. Thanks for the recommendation on a 3-9, that clearly fits the bill (sarcasm). The Schmidt also doesn't fit the objective lens requirement.

To all the guys with serious recommendations, thanks, I appreciate the feedback.

Prefer ffp, but I don't mind sfp it's it has utility despite being sfp. 8x wouldn't be too neutered with sfp in my opinion. 8x with a tmr reticle and a detent at 4x would have almost no loss in utility.

me neither, but it'd be the new hotness if it had a good fov, non-finicky eyebox, and adjustable parralax. The leica looks neat, but doesn't look like it has adjustable parallax.

US Optics 1.8-10x44 if you can find one.
USO also makes a 1.8-10x40 (B10) and an older 1.8-10x37.
Man can’t believe I didn’t think of that. Thanks. Hopefully I can get my hands on one again before pulling the trigger on it, but it looks great. Wish the reticle was a little different. Not too much info on the internal level but I’ll do some more digging. Thanks for the recommendation.

I had one of these and the eye box wasn’t awesome for me and the low power had a fisheye look.. I tried to use it for 3 gun in open with offset red dot but it wasn’t worth it... your better off with a little higher power low end and just use the offset red dot for all the close work in my opinion.

Damn that’s too bad. The one time I got to handle one I focused on what 10x looked like. I didn’t really pay attention to the 1.8x. The low power 1.8 I’m gonna be using for dawn/dusk hunting and maybe shooting from vehicles I’ve done the latter with a 1.5x with a daylight visible dot and it wasn’t so bad. I imagine the 1.8 will be similar but the fisheye effect might make it cumbersome. Thanks for the tip.

actually, I held one on Wednesday, mounted on a 556 - it is incredible piece with exception of one thing :) - how hard would it be to put little cables on capped turrets if caps are being used??? At any rate - daylight dot is unbelievable and VISIBLE and usable!!!
Benefits of living in WI :) and less than 2hrs from Braneveld. I did not fire it, but person who has it - has, apparently very happy. 1-10x is nice and it is small, definately under a foot end-to-end.

All the reviews I watched were pretty good. Glass looked clear
