Maggie’s What's Your View II

Ah come on, you know you miss the food!
If you're on a production platform that would explain your reaction. Unless you're being sarcastic of course which I can't tell in a typed statement. I was on a drillship, and before that on a semisubmersible-both drilling rigs. The food on the drilling side is kinda like hospital food, it'll keep you alive but not a pleasant experience.
I DO miss the people (most of them anyway). The "safety" culture imposed on us by office people who've probably never WORKED a day in their life is what soured me. For instance having to have a permit for every little task etc does not make anything safer and in fact defeats the purpose of the permit-to-work system. Common sense has been outlawed out there. I finally got close enough to retirement age to just go ahead and retire early. If I'd waited til I was over 60 i'd probably have to go straight to a padded cell somewhere.

Haha no that was sarcasm. I’m on the drilling side as well, jack up rig at the moment. Honestly the food is way better then what I cooked for myself on land, it’s just fun to joke about (Like we have it so rough). As far as safety, I have way too many years left to adopt that mentality so I just roll with the punches and try to play by the rules. But I see where you’re coming from.

Seasoned and prepped. Fire it up in a couple hours. Should be ready about 6 tomorrow

The fact that they changed the rules daily is what's so maddening about it. I gave up on trying to keep up with all the changes the last couple of years I was there. Every hitch was like going to work for a completely different company and having to start from scratch on the policies and procedures. Got to the point that we could only expect about 2-3 hrs actual work time in a 12 hr day-the rest of the time was chasing down all the supervisors to get their signatures on all the paperwork. I was in Maintenance, not the drilling dept.

PS-back when I was on the jackups the food WAS much better. The cooks etc were actually company employees, not the catering companies that hire either furriners or straight from some jail-to-work program.

That looks more like a bear feeding station than a bait barrel.
I'm guessing the platform is the no-no?

It is a Bear baiting barrel which is a no no. Bunch of non locals who bought access permits are camped out all over the place up there probably doing it unless there's a PH on that timber land doing it, but they trap, not bait. It's illegal.

@1J04 I'm surprised that barrel hasn't been torn to hell. If, if I were to have ever baited bear, I'd have used a metal drum with the opening cut nearer the bottom and would have sucured it to the tree with chains and turnbuckles. I probably would have filled it with out of date bread and sweet cakes from the bread store and apples picked up off the ground at an orchard. If.

Yeah what looked like a early harvest across the board isn't any more. And now in the hospital with our 8.5 yr old son who might have appendicitis.
Both my sons have had their appendixes (appendices?) removed. It's a bad feeling when you don't have a clue why your kid is suddenly in great pain and suffering.

A bunch of smaller holes work if you fill it with dog food and presweetened kool aid. Forces the bears to roll it around like a hog bait barrel.

I made the mistake of doing the big hole just once. They emptied it overnight.

I let a coworker hunt our bait station and when he walked up on it there was a huge boar on top of the barrel trying to shake shit out of it.
Dave took the shot from about 40yds and missed...
I think he might have had a touch of buck fever.

Sorry to hear that. Keep us posted on how he's doing. Prayers for him.
Thanks Tucker. The prayers are much appreciated! The poor guy has had a rough stretch this summer.

Wiped out on his bike and got the handlebars jammed into his abdomen in July severly lacerating his liver, then had to have 2 teeth pulled due to an a cyst forming under them, now the appendicitis and having his appendix removed.

Poor guy just wants to ride in the combine and tractor and play with his 3 younger brothers and help with his newborn sister.

But God has been watching over him and us and it looks like he should be fine!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers @Tucker301 @mtrmn @powdahound76 and everyone else!

Shaun

Boy just think if you had that Cool-pix 1000

Haha! It was really pretty dark. I'm amazed it came out this good.
I watched this guy make a scrape 20 yards from the bedroom window Friday night. Then walked over to the little resident five pointer and shoved him around a bit.
The biggest one's body is maybe 30% bigger than this one, and it makes his rack look smaller in proportion to his body, but when you get them all together you tell he's the boss.
