Maggie’s What's Your View II

Did a little more research, looks like it is ramshot mag powder. Powder charge seem right for what ramshot has listed.

I didnt make range day with Lapuapalooza this weekend as I was off with the family.

I will say its not unheard of to get 30-40 mph winds up there and more is certainly possible.

I curious of the actual number and wasnt surprised by his report.

Just curious, how much wind we’re you playing in?
It ranged from calm to 30mph. It would shift from a quartering to full value, back and forth too. When I zero rifles out there I alway try to get up next to the embankment to try to keep the wind at bay, but usually the wind will shift and make it fairly irrelevant. Perfect conditions are rare out there.

I figured it had to be a lot to see that kind of wind drift at 200 with a 6.5

Trailer service day on the new ride. Bearings have probably never been repacked and the brakes most likely never serviced since it was new... I drove this thing 1500 miles! No brakes and shit bearings. All new backing plates and bearings are in order. Blasted the drums and just waiting on a couple pieces to put it back together.

It was sunny and 70 today. Shop door wide open!! They’re talking a foot of snow by Friday though??

Good thing you noticed. I was gonna say you might want to check out those brakes while you are in there.

Yep. We got it coming down sideways down here too @Bender.

Couple school districts have already cancelled....... I will be leaving momma at home with 3 wild monkeys (I can call em that, all are blond with blue eyes) and go to work if they cancel our district.

Well shit no multi season elk for me this year. 5 point and no draw. Try again next year.

Sorry Buddy. Didn't even put in this year. I've got 12 points and use to put in for NOTHING but the Margaret Unit and try to draw with the masses and those of us that went through the Master Hunter Program. Two separate chances, and still no love. Use to be some incredible Boone and Crocket animals up that way. Still is, just not like 15-20 yrs ago I'm afraid. Plus the tribe has been subsistence hunting the hell outta HUGE BULLS for years in the Loowit, which borders the Margaret.

And I would think, a huge bull wouldn’t be the best for eating. Feel bad for those poor tribe fellas ?

Over the counter bull elk tags are about the only good thing left in CO. I have a hard time predicting my schedule for October and November before April first so i do that and leftover tags most years.
I blame the hippies that came here to smoke weed for a living for the rest. Like the bumper stickers here say "Welcome to Colorado! Now leave."

I hunted up there a couple years ago and hardly seen a critter. I bought one of the weyco permits and came in from the Winston creek side. Drove all over and hiked the Margaret and toutle seen very little. Elk hunting around here is piss poor anymore.
I am fortunate to have most all the elk prairie to run on. But there has been so many elk with hoof rot out there it sickening.

Got home early afternoon with most noble of intentions of completing some to-do list items, but that pond, the sunshine, and damned perfect 70 degrees just seemed to sweep me off into another direction.

Can't work on it all the time. Have to take moment now and then.

And how's this for a surprise?
My neighbor put some crappie in there last year, but this was the first sign they survived.
Two casts right off the dock - 2 slabs.

I miss small pond fishin. Growing up in IA we had about 12 we would ride our bikes to. And more we would get rides to.
Plus small creeks catching chubs on corn to use as catfish bait. Would also sell them for $0.25 to my grandads neighbor.

Darn good memories you just made flash up!

Farm ponds rock. Fishing in the summer, pond hockey in the winter. My dad would drop me at the pond when I was really little to skate while he did cattle chores at 3 different farms. He would pick me up when he was done. By then it was beyond dark, my feet were froze, and it was off to home for hot chow. Loved it.

Cool, very cool......we've never had anything like that in NW Washington.

On the one hand, I envy those in the snowbelt where you get anywhere from 3.5 to 5 months of snow.

Conversely, I do know that snow gets brown when not refreshed regularly.

Awwww, what the hell, life's pretty good. Right ?(!)

Well, time for that first "real" oil change after the break-in oil change.

Pop a hole in the side of the filter with a 3/8 drill bit and let that drain down before spinning it off - helps a lot.

13 nasty quarts out, 13 quarts of fresh Rotella T6 back in!

Normally I just drive an ice pick right in the bottom. 2 smacks with hammer and GTG.

How many miles? local dealer (my old employer) just had a 2017 traded in with 28k, still had factory filter on it.:mad:

Saw a 351W in a bronco go 36k with factory oil/filter seemed like no harm no foul. Came in for a recall and when I looked down it had factory painted filter. was 2 1/2 quarts low.

Had a fusion with 3.5 V6 that siezed at 53k, still factory oil filter. Owner said she thought the car would tell her when it needed a oil change. I told her "it did". She did not laugh.

Holy shit. 28K with the factory filter! I wonder if that was factory oil in it also?

2019 F-450 Limited's got right at 6K on it so far. I did a break-in oil change at roughly 1.5K. Probably go 5K between changes from this point forward. NOT going to listed the damn "Intelligent Oil Change" computer.

Roughly about 5K on this oil change. Looked good. Very few to no sparkles in the old oil and the viscosity was still good. Low fuel smell to it also.

Primary and secondary fuel filters at 15K if I recall correctly. That frame mounted one usually gives me a bath. This new cartridge style may or may not be easier?

Is there a way to spin these new 6.7's over without it starting (without yanking ECM fuses, etc)? I pre-fill my filter, but I'd like to spin it over for a bit before letting it start. I used "flood clear" mode (pedal to the floor past click) to do it on my Raptor.

I was actually just responding to @AIAW mine takes 14 quarts for some odd reason

Interesting. Now I will have to "level" mine off a bit. I throw 13 quarts in it, drive it for a little bit, let it settle then maybe add 1/2 a quart - if even that much to true it up. My driveway has an angle to it so it's hard to do without moving it.

The damn dipstick is one of the worst designed things on the truck to be honest.

Oh I am a Ford fan. I was just passing along a couple I have seen. I see diesels (7.3 mostly) go 30k plus with no apparent damage. Those 2 I posted were most I had seen on factory oil and filter.

@AIAW I am sure it was on factory oil. No reason to change oil and not filter.

Since we are talking about oil changes and Dumbasses. This is from yesterday.
1997 F150, brought to me for a starter issue. Only 77k. Kid bought it from little old lady 2 years ago. His dad asked me to check it over also.
It was 3 quarts low on oil. According to records in the glove box (along with physical evidence). It had not had an oil change since January of 2012. Now it had only been 5k, so not crazy miles. Never a transmission service or coolant service.
Kid never changed the oil when he bought it (I change all fluids the week I buy a car if used, gives me a zero start point.)
Nor ever, Including now, he passed on the maintenance.

That's crazy. Yeah the last used truck I bought was a 6.4 (I know, shoot me now) and I changed every ounce of liquid in that thing minus the refrigerant!

Installed a coolant filter and was amazed at how much casting sand was caught in it even AFTER a full pressure-flush. That 6.4 was garbage and I'm glad I was able to offload it before any major issues cropped up.

3rd and final shooting mat made it just in time for the match tomorrow. I usually only have one and a small one that I can pack easy. With Jamie, Buzz and the neighbor all going to be shooting at the same time as me, and the fact that there is 5” of snow on the ground and it’s melting meant I needed to get them up off the wet. I really needed them anyway because eventually when we are all shooting at the same time as a family, I’ll need 4.
