Maggie’s What's Your View II

The boys showed up this morning and got me back in shape. Replaced the missing ones and fixed a bunch of the loose ones. Aaron said it felt like it was 80 on the roof. Brian and I froze our asses off on the ground.
They finished up just in time for homemade chili, cornbread, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Shredded cheese, Sour cream, guacamole, and sweet tea!
Tipped them about $75 over asking and profusely thanked them for coming out on a cold ass Sunday morning to get me fixed up!

Great guys. Same crew did my floors and my backsplashes. They work fast, neat and clean.

Aaron says that old sofa cushion is all he needs for roof work. Grippy and comfy.

Good to see MEN that’ll get up and work on tough day, Sunday no less. Good on you for the hot chow and appreciation ($$$). It’s nice to have previously formed alliances when you need a hand.

Just another day in paradise here fellas. Received an inch of snow last night (nuisance snow) I call it. Wind howling out of the WNW today at 25 to 30 mph. Not super cold, but the wind chill is -15 F. After doing my outside chores, laying on the deck exposed to that wind shooting just doesn’t have much appeal. Visibility has been obscured down to a 1/2 mile at times with blowing snow. For you fellas up north, stay warm.

Now Geno, that is a nicer winter scene! I don’t mind that type of winter at all.

I was thinking the same thing. If winter looked like that I'd be a bigger fan of it.

The missus is in Chicago again, before heading to Boston in a few days. She said they've had about a full day of just beautiful light powdery snow that's prettied everything up. I just took her word for it with no need to see it myself.

photo87175.jpgphoto87176.jpg Had dinner at the Seafood Shack on Cortez Blvd in Bradenton tonight.
First is the view of the restaurant from the dock.
Second is looking at Anna Maria Island to the west as the sun went down.
We celebrated Matthew's 14th birthday tonight. Dinner and company was great.
The view only made it better.

They've been having some cooler days down there lately too though... Father in law rubbed it in last night with a picture of him by the campfire in shorts and a light jacket. I should have stayed down there with him till march...

Man, I don't miss the eastern Iowa winters, but I do appreciate the pics you post as I do miss the landscape. I live full time in PHX now, but my wife and I lived in Vinton and then Cedar Rapids from 1983 until 2015. I rode many of the beautiful curvy roads in your area quite often on motorcycles.

If it's gonna be cold there should at least be snow, right? And it's warm enough in the house that the boys have their sleeves up!

That's a great pic Geno. Are those two picking the veggies out? :p Good boys.

Now let's talk about that Bull, then the European Mount Whitetail. Would love to see a better pic of both. Can't see the eyeguards on the Bull, but it appears to be a nice 6x6. Care to share a little back story?

georgous bro...
when you going to see your mom again?

Well, the boys were actually using their hands to get those last few veggies on the spoon... I wish I had a great story for the elk and moose but I really don't. My father in law the last couple of years has got them for me for Christmas. My wife really likes them since they're not your average whitetail and was all for putting them in the living room.

The Euro whitetail is just a perfect little 10 that I shot a few years ago. I would have normally passed because he was too young but he had an arrow in him so I figured he wouldn't make it through the winter. I have a little shoulder mount in the basement pool room and a fallow deer I shot when I was back in college. If I ever get a chance for a big elk I will replace this one. A moose hunt is probably just a dream but I never say never.

Thanks for sharing. Those are beautiful animals non the less. I was thinking the same thing about your Whitetail in regards to just how symmetrical it is. It's the perfect Buck. Good for you for taking it under those circumstances. Can I ask what State that Whitetail is from? Guess I just did. ;) I've never hunted them but I'd say that's gotta be damn near a shooter in anyone's book. Beautiful job on the mount.

Thanks it's finally almost done! Put in a little wet bar in November as the next to last piece. Ever piece of wood and tin down there has a story behind it. I did everything myself starting with a blank slate so I'm a bit proud of it. Last piece is the old potbelly stove. I have to pay a pro to put in a chimney or the insurance company won't cover me anymore. Getting a contractor to come do it is harder than I would have thought.

I can tolerate the cold, but as you know, the wind just wears you out. PHX is sounding pretty good right now, enjoy! Small world, I see you spent time in Vinton. I grew up in La Porte City.

That's awesome. I figured those pieces had a bit of nostalgia behind them. Would love to see how the stove fits in when you're done. Planning on putting in a Hearth outta some old bricks or something? That would look awesome with your colors I think.

Actually going to pipe it straight up through the tin and out the exterior wall. I blasted this and had a couple of the more rough parts renickeled.

Beautiful man, just beautiful. Great looking stove. Really blends in in there don't it. Really nice job. The other pics in the other post didn't come through for some reason.

Do they load now? Just a couple more of the basement is all. It's my little slice of the American dream I guess. Luckily my wife likes most all the same things I do so it works great. It's a walk out basement with a little brick patio for a fire pit. When a big game is on or just when we get together with friends there's a bathroom, tv, couches, pool table, and I try to keep the bar stocked. All I need now is that damn stove! Lol

i have a hidden door to my reloading/gun room and a 6x18 kind of vault room...

Helluva set up, really. And ya, the pics came thru that time. I'm certain you're proud as hell of that space right there. Who couldn't be. Did I mention that place looks great? ;)

Once you purge Geno of all his fancy beer and good bourbon, swing down to the southwest just a state and you can slum it here for a day or so on the King ;)

You've got the plane, aren't you supposed to visit me?? Flying a plane is on my bucket list. Miss a cheap opportunity in college to get my license. Too expensive then. No time and too expensive now. Some day though.

photo87445.jpgphoto87446.jpg We went to Fort Desoto yesterday.
As we walked north along the beach I noticed a boat that appeared to be grounded. Turns out it was.
When I got closer to take the second picture, I encountered the owner.
He said the boat had been there for 40 days and then told me the story of how it got there. Something involving a 10' wake and swamping his engine.
I smelled a load of BS in his story.
A 32' boat should be able to handle that sized wake. In fact, ships don't go close enough to shore to cause it and most ships produce a wake that's no more than 4' or so.
Ima guessing that a bunch of alcohol was involved and he was running too close to the barrier island. He prolly ran that bitch aground at WOT.

It sure was a pretty day though

We see boats on bars all the time on the Lower Columbia. I forbid anyone on my boat to even look in their direction when we cruise by. Nothing you can do for them anyhow. They'll just have to wait for the flood.

No shit right? C'mon Mr Nichols. Go rogue dammit and swing by and pick a few of us up for a little trip. It'll be a hoot.
